Allergy-Friendly North Carolina State Campus Guide
I’ve been very impressed with the allergy safety and accommodations NC State has for campus. The dining halls have all food items labeled, provide dairy and gluten free products, use an allergy scoops for ice cream, and similar protocols for on campus restaurants. I feel very comfortable eating on campus while having a severe nut allergy.Location: Raleigh, North Carolina

Allergy-Friendly Campus Guide: University of Arizona
The dining hall is not set up in typical buffet or line style dining. There are separate establishments that rent out the areas within our dining area (Chick-Fil-A, Papa Johns, Steak + Shake, Panda Express, Einstein Bagels, etc). This makes it a bit easier to navigate with food allergies since menu items don’t typically change. There are a few non-chain restaurants in the dining centers, but the workers are all knowledgeable and willing to help (usually, they will get a manager for you to speak with). There is one all-you-can-eat restaurant, Pangea, that is self-serve. Each dish has a name card with the ingredients that are in the dish! Amazing! Location: Tuscon, Arizona
Allergy-Friendly Campus Guide: Vanderbilt University
All of the Vanderbilt dining halls are completely nut-free. There are a few cafès on campus that do have nuts, but they are very aware of allergies. If you have a limited option of foods, Vanderbilt provides a service on their dining app in which you can order almost any food ahead of time and have it ready for you when you arrive in the dining hall. They make the food especially for you to fit your needs. Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Boulder Gluten-Free Travel Itinerary
I’m Dave, and I’m 51 years old. I’ve been gluten-free for six years and dairy-free for one year. My wife and I love hiking and this was the fifth year in a row that we’ve traveled to the Denver, Colorado area. We stayed five nights at a Residence Inn hotel in Longmont, CO. We love that the rooms have a full kitchen and we prepare at least one meal a day there. We also love that hotel’s location is within walking distance of Sprouts and Whole Foods. Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park is one of our favorite things to do together. We plan a 2-4 mile hike every day there or at other nearby parks. While in the area, I always plan a visit to Holidaily’s certified gluten-free brewery in Golden, Colorado. Our favorite restaurants are Reelfish + Chips and Teocalli Cucina, which are both in nearby Lafayette. Check out everywhere we ate on the Spokin app @glutenfreedave or on Instagram @glutenfree.dave!
California Road Trip Allergy-Friendly Travel Itinerary
Hi, I’m Lisa Horne of the blog Food Allergy P.I., and host of the Food Allergy Talk podcast. My oldest son has anaphylactic food allergies to peanut, tree nuts, shellfish, oat, garlic, sweet potato, watermelon, and pear. I also help my husband manage fibromyalgia along with his food allergies: pea, mushroom, avocado, mustard, sesame, onion, and lima bean. Our most recent journey took us up the historic Pacific Coast Highway, through a small Danish Village, and to a stop on the way home that was recently made famous in a Netflix kid’s movie. Southern California Nut Allergy-Friendly Travel Itinerary
Hello! My name is Victoria, I live in Iowa, and I have a child who’s allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. I spent a week traveling to SoCal with my family, where we stayed in an Airbnb and launched our allergy treatment at the Food Allergy Institute. We went to our appointments in the morning but had the rest of the day to spend in the area. Some of our favorite spots were SomiSomi, the gorgeous views at Griffith Observatory (where we got to hold an actual meteorite from Mars!), and spending time at the beach. Kauai + Maui Gluten-Free Travel Itinerary
Hi everyone! My name is Hannah and I’m 26 years old. I have celiac disease and I live in Ann Arbor, MI. I just finished the second year of my graduate program so I was thrilled to get away for a vacation at the end of the semester to my favorite place in the world! We went to Kauai and Maui in Hawaii for our trip. I was actually born on Oahu so I try to go back to the islands as much as possible. Hawaii is usually pretty easy in terms of eating gluten-free, because you can always order fresh fish, rice, or have fresh fruit! On this trip, we did lots of hiking, snorkeling, and saw quite a few turtles. I had shave ice at least 5 times because it is my favorite (and usually gluten-free!) treat. Also, I discovered a place that had celiac-safe cinnamon rolls in Maui (Cinnamon Roll Place)! It was the most peaceful trip and there are so many gluten-free spots to try. Hawaii Allergy-Friendly Travel Itinerary
Hi everyone! My name is Natalie and I’m a food allergy mom to my daughter, Penelope, who is allergic to eggs and peanuts. Last summer, we took a family trip to Waikoloa Beach, Hawaii and stayed at The Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and Spa. We loved everything about that destination and resort so much that we decided to revisit Waikoloa Beach and stay at that exact same resort this summer! During our week-long stay, we enjoyed all the wonderful pools and the beach right outside the resort! Our go-to restaurants when visiting Hawaii are Tommy Bahama, Kona Brewing Company, Willie’s Hot Chicken, and Hawaii Calls. If you are looking to enjoy some dessert while enjoying the beautiful beach views of Hawaii, then be sure to dine at Lava Lava Beach Club. Hi friends! I’m Katelyn, a 27 year old from Arizona with celiac disease.
