Allergy-Friendly Campus Guide: University of Arizona

Untitled design 1 copy

The dining hall is not set up in typical buffet or line style dining. There are separate establishments that rent out the areas within our dining area (Chick-Fil-A, Papa Johns, Steak + Shake, Panda Express, Einstein Bagels, etc). This makes it a bit easier to navigate with food allergies since menu items don’t typically change. There are a few non-chain restaurants in the dining centers, but the workers are all knowledgeable and willing to help (usually, they will get a manager for you to speak with). There is one all-you-can-eat restaurant, Pangea, that is self-serve. Each dish has a name card with the ingredients that are in the dish! Amazing!

Sprouts Farmers Market

Sprouts is my go-to for specialty items. They have Daiya Cheese, Divvies cookies, the best cereals, and a plethora of allergen friendly desserts! Sprouts is my saving grace! Items are easy to locate, but staff is so friendly and more than happy to help if you are struggling a bit. Go experience this safe-haven for yourself!

C I Chu’s Mongolian BBQ

This restaurant was GREAT for my allergies, but definitely not a good choice if you have a sesame allergy! Ci Chu’s is completely nut and dairy free! Even the sesame bread has no dairy or butter added. This place is BOMB and worth every penny. It’s a make your own bowl set up, so you grab a bowl and add your noodles, toppings, and sauce. Then you hand it to the cooks and they sauté it up! You get soup, bread, and rice as sides. Delicious food and a fun little spot in Tucson. Make a stop at Crave coffee bar next door for a good latte too!

Magpies Gourmet Pizza 4th Ave

Magpies offers dairy-free cheese and crusts. They servers are well versed on food allergies. They even offer a cauliflower crust option as well! I can always eat here with confidence that I will be safe.

Culinary Dropout

Menu is a little confusing but staff is SO well trained! I love Fox Restaurants and they just continue to amaze me. The kitchen created an off-the-menu dish, since they make all of their food from scratch. It was delicious and safe–woohoo!!

Seis Kitchen

Delicious food and a great staff. Waiters and workers are in the KNOW about food allergies and are willing to swap butter for olive oil and substitute pretty much anything! So great, very educated, and yummy in my belly!

dedicated. a gluten free bakery & coffee shop

GREAT shop! They have separated cases for what has dairy and what doesn’t. It’s a gluten-free bakery, but also has many dairy-free options. Everything is so delicious!

TallBoys

Tallboys has always met my dietary needs with amazing service. Their menu is very clear on ingredients and the staff are all knowledgeable. Their menu items have some focus on vegan and vegetarian, so they are happy to accommodate any changes and substitutions that I had asked. Food is out of this world and for a great place. Feels like home!
