Vinny D’s
“Vinny D’s was wonderful in accommodating my son’s tree nut allergy! The only nut they have is in pistachio gelato, but they offered to give my son fresh gelato from a new package in the back. Their shave ice, Italian ice, and gelato all truly taste incredible! The shave ice is dairy/nut-free (I don’t know if it’s gluten-free). I highly, highly recommend Vinny D’s!”

DQ / Orange Julius
“We have ordered many Ice Cream Cakes from this DQ, and although they can’t “promise” a nut-free cake, they always listen carefully, assure us they will take special care, and it has been noted upon pick-up.”

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams
“Our experience was excellent! The staff was educated and shared an allergen menu to help determine what my daughter could eat (no tree nuts). They also used a fresh bin and a clean scoop. We will definitely be going back. I highly recommend!”

The Original Rainbow Cone – Wicker Park
“Came here with one of my non-allergy daughters and definitely saw a couple nut flavors which gave me pause—not sure why, as so does our favorite Jeni’s—maybe because I think their signature Rainbow Cone looked to have pistachio. But I was very pleasantly surprised when I asked how they handle if someone has a nut allergy, and the person went through their process and it was buttoned up! Would consider taking my daughter and noticed they had a couple dairy-free options too!”

FRÍO Gelato – Navy Pier
“So allergy-friendly! They even advertise as allergy-friendly. There are no peanuts or tree nuts (other than coconut) in house. All the flavors were safe for me to eat, and I was able to choose whatever I liked. I had the dulce de leche and strawberry flavors. They even have dairy-free flavors that are water-based sorbets. It was delicious, great portions, and so refreshing to not worry about cross-contamination. They are very understanding about allergies, which is great for such a big tourist attraction like Navy Pier! I can’t wait to come back and try more flavors. ”

Kurimu Wicker Park
“Kurimu on Taylor is nut-free, but the one on Division does have Honey Nut Cheerios and Reese’s Puff cereals on site for ice cream toppings. They are kept away from the ice cream but close together. I ate there safely, but for sure let them know your allergies, and I wouldn’t recommend getting any of the cereal toppings.”

Joy Yee – Chinatown
“I’ve always enjoyed Joy Yee! I love an Iced Thai Milk tea with boba at any boba place, and I definitely like it at Joy Yee. I’ve had ice cream and bubble waffles here as well! Definitely a fun place to visit in Chinatown!
Only nuts I saw were almonds, and they were a topping. Pretty good with allergies.”

Scooter’s Frozen Custard
“Scooter’s staff is knowledgeable about allergies, and they will use a clean scoop if you tell them you have allergies. They’ve gotten a lot better about peanut allergies in the past few years, way more attentive now than before.”

Cold Stone Creamery
“Always a treat visiting Cold Stone! This prime location just recently opened less than a year ago. The staff has always been so nice to me, and they are very accommodating with my tree nut allergies. They are able to wipe and clean the cold stone to reduce the chance of cross-contamination. They also have a few dairy-free options, but only vanilla and chocolate from what I saw.”

Eiffel Waffle – Wicker Park
“New spot in Wicker Park on Milwaukee Ave—we didn’t try it yet, but did ask about allergies, and they said they could accommodate a nut allergy. While I scanned the case looking at all the flavors and felt like I saw quite a few with nuts, I was most impressed by the menu at the cashier, which listed flavors by allergy and saw only 4 had nuts. They did have a number of vegan flavors, too. Would definitely give it a try if my daughter was interested, but likely would go when it’s quiet to take our time asking since they are new.”

“Multiple vegan and gluten-free options! Menu is labeled, and it was such a fun experience.”

Vaca’s Creamery
“Amazing oat-milk soft serve + gluten-free cookie dough bites! They had a really nice ingredient book, and are very open to discussing allergies and ways to avoid certain items! As well as since it’s all vegan soft serve, cross-contamination is pretty limited for most allergens. ”

MUSEUM OF ICE CREAM
“This pertains to the Chicago location.
Upon arrival, I asked about the nut situation and was informed that the entire museum is a nut-free facility. Wish this was advertised more prominently! The FAQ on their website does not explicitly note that it is nut-free, it was only something I learned after speaking with multiple staff.
Each room offers a different ice cream option, and the attendants consistently maintained that the facility is nut-free. The policy is all you can eat. You can get seconds, thirds, etc. I also saw vegan options like pineapple whip, dairy-free chocolate, Italian ice, etc.”

KILWINS
“They do have a list of ice cream that does not have nuts, but it is in the ingredients (kind of confusing), and the list is all the way in the back of the store, which is hard to see.”
