A La Mode

A La Mode

“I absolutely love A La Mode. I always make it a point to stop by whenever I go into NYC. Their staff is amazing, always friendly and helpful. They use separate scoops for all of their flavors, and the best part is that they are super allergy-friendly! They have plenty of dairy-free options and their whole facility is nut, egg, and sesame-free! My favorite part is the toppings. To have the ability to walk in and pick whatever cone, toppings, or flavors I like is priceless 🙂 They also have the most amazing soft serve ice cream! It’s been years since I’ve been able to enjoy a 100% safe soft serve, and they hit it on the mark!”

Glace

“GlacĂ© is NoGlu’s new addition to the Upper East Side! Based in their original location, GlacĂ© offers 100% gluten-free French ice cream. What makes it super special are the gluten-free waffle cones! They also can make delicious-looking sundaes. Stop by for a sweet treat after a gluten-free lunch at their restaurant on the corner. Visiting NoGlu is like a trip to Paris!”

Downtown Yogurt & Ice Cream

“My daughter asked for toppings from the bins so they weren’t out on the bar to avoid cross-contamination. Not only did the staff understand the concern, they were willing and happy to help.”

Ben & Jerry’s

“Ben & Jerry’s definitely varies place to place by allergy-friendliness. However, I’ve definitely been able to eat here safely before! I would recommend telling them about your allergies and asking for a clean scoop, gloves, and/or a fresh ice cream bin, and getting a flavor that isn’t close to your allergens would be best too.”

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream

“Went to this shop for the US Open and noticed the advertised allergens along with dairy-free options for my milkshake. The staff were educated and asked helpful questions about allergies and the dairy-free options.”

Chloe's Soft Serve Fruit Co.

Chloe’s Soft Serve Fruit Co.

“Soft serve comes from machines, no scoops needed. Ingredients for menu items are simple—fruit, water, and sugar, but it tastes like soft serve. They do have nuts as a topping, but employees will change gloves and be extra careful if you tell them you have a nut allergy. ”

Gelatoville Gelataria & Coffee

Gelatoville Gelataria & Coffee

“We stumbled upon this place off the street, and I was impressed. Each ingredient for every flavor is listed on the wall, and there is one scooper for each tub. All of the vegan flavors are gluten-free. They put a wafer on the top of each cup, so be sure to tell them not to put it on. I got the hazelnut flavor.”

16 Handles

“16 Handles went above and beyond. Their staff is very knowledgeable about allergens, ingredients, and cross-contamination. An amazing employee, Kadija, took the time to go through toppings and ingredients with me and let me see the original topping container they came in to confirm ingredients, went to a separate area in the back, got me a fresh spoon, and spooned fresh toppings into a cup for me. When I was paying, she made sure to wipe the scale to reduce any cross-contamination risk. They do have nut toppings, but if you explain your allergies, they will gladly give you fresh toppings from the back. All ingredients are listed on the FroYo machines (except for one gluten-free cream, which the staff can tell you the ingredients of by looking it up). I feel very safe eating from here.”

Mister Softee of Manhattan

“I’ve always been able to have the vanilla milkshake with my sesame allergy at Mister Softee! And I just recently had it again at the truck parked by Union Square.”

@jpod26, who manages sesame allergies

L'Arte del Gelato

L’Arte del Gelato

“They use a separate scoop for each flavor! The limone was delicious.”

Whipped Urban Dessert Lab

Whipped Urban Dessert Lab

“I finally made it to @urbandessertlab yesterday to try their oat-based chocolate and vanilla soft serve! Here are my thoughts:
The ice cream was SO good and creamy. Their menu had the allergens clearly labeled for every item. There was a written allergen warning in the actual ice cream shop, but the staff member was extremely kind and diligent, so I still felt safe and comfortable. They change gloves in between every order. They’ll accommodate your allergies by using toppings from a separate area if needed (I decided to play it safe and skip the toppings anyway). They only have chocolate and vanilla oat-based soft serve (so you don’t have to worry about anything in regards to the ice cream). I will definitely go back next time I’m in the area!”

@bha474, who manages peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, wheat, and shellfish allergies

Gelateria Gentile – West Village

“The vegan ice cream options here are great! The vegan chocolate was incredible. I’m slightly intolerant to some allergens, so I didn’t fully go in-depth with their procedures for allergy-friendly customers, but will in the future.”

@caitlin112189, who manages celiac and milk, wheat, fruit, and grain allergies

Sugar Hill Creamery

“This was one of the best parts about living uptown. This ice cream place is one of my favorites. You can’t go wrong with any of the flavors unless you have certain allergies. So there are gluten-free options (not many) and vegan (even less). I will say if you have a nut-allergy, this is not your place. There are a few ice creams with nuts, and there is a chance of cross-contamination. I didn’t ask specifically about this since my allergies weren’t affected by this place, but the staff is incredibly helpful, so you can always call and ask in advance.”

@edenc4, who manages soy, fruit, and vegetable allergies

Anita La Mamma del Gelato

“Although there are a lot of nuts present, the staff is super knowledgeable about the ingredients in the gelato. Also, most of them do not contain eggs, which is a huge plus.”

@jiyad, who manages tree nut, egg, and sesame allergies

Taiyaki NYC

“I was really nervous about trying this place just because of all the sesame, but I have eaten here safely twice and have not had an issue! I always make them aware of my allergy, and they take note of it and are cautious when making my treat. The ice cream here is DELICIOUS, and the fish cones are out of this world!”

@awissink, who manages peanut, shellfish, sesame, and fruit allergies

Caffè Panna

Caffè Panna

“So many options that are allergy-friendly! Pints are clearly labeled with G for gluten and N for nuts, so I always feel safe.”

@girlwnogluten, who manages celiac and tree nut, fish, shellfish, sesame, fruit, vegetable, beef, bison, lamb, pork, and venison allergies
