McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams – GCM
Location: Los Angeles, California
“I was so excited to discover an ice cream shop that doesn’t use any of my allergens! They only have peanuts in the ice cream and an almond topping. I was actually able to sample some things! I ended up getting Reindeer Tracks, which was a seasonal mint chocolate flavor. My whole family got different ice creams, and they loved them as well. I would absolutely recommend this place!”

Happy Ice
Location: Los Angeles, California
“Happy Ice has two locations with stores, but we were at Downtown Disney and my youngest daughter (with a peanut and nut allergy) saw one of their food trucks and asked if we could try it! I was so happy to say yes! Happy Ice is nut-free and dairy-free; it means so much to me when my daughter can eat something that I don’t have to worry about; I know other food allergy mamas can relate. My other daughter, husband, and I do not have food allergies, and all 4 of us loved the Happy Ice! I wish we lived in Southern California so we could eat at Happy Ice all the time.”

Ben & Jerry’s
Location: Los Angeles, California
“We love Ben & Jerry’s. This location didn’t do a fresh bin. But they used a fresh scoop and peeled back a few layers to get to the fresh ice cream on the bottom.
If you are comfortable with that, then I recommend. The ice cream is also labeled with the ingredients to make it helpful for what to order.”

Salt & Straw
Location: Los Angeles, California
“The staff here is wonderful, and their ingredients are clearly available, including on their to-go containers. They will get a freshly washed scoop if you ask them, and will ask if you have any allergies before serving you. I’ve gotten the vegan strawberry many times, and it’s always been safe and delicious. They’re incredibly proactive and are really focused on keeping allergic individuals safe.”

Fatamorgana Gelato – Beverly Hills
Location: Beverly Hills, California
“After stopping at Modern Bread and Bagel, my daughter and I visited Fatamorgana Gelato in Beverly Hills. This dedicated gluten-free gelateria offers 66 flavors of gelato, 24 of which are vegan. I loved my stracciatella gelato served in a gluten-free waffle cone. This is definitely a spot that I will be returning to!”

Golden Spoon
Location: Huntington Beach, California
“Been coming here for years, even though most of their staff is high school aged, they’re very thorough with allergies—will clean the soft serve machines for you to ensure there’s no cross-contamination. Typically, nut flavors are in the same machine. I avoid the toppings area to be extra safe, but the soft serve is always fine for me.”

Dolce Gelato
Location: Tustin, California
“This was a great experience at an ice cream shop! I’d never been to this place, so I was pleasantly surprised by the helpfulness! There were very few peanut flavors, and they were all in the same area. I made sure to choose a flavor away from peanut-related flavors to reduce cross-contamination. Cross-contamination was also reduced because each flavor had its own scoop, and the worker offered to scoop it from the front instead of the back (meaning it hadn’t been touched before that). Aside from allergy-related things, this was a delicious gelato shop and I would highly recommend!”

Joghurt Frozen Yogurt Haus
Location: Tustin, California
“Yummy yogurt and willing to assist customers with food allergy concerns, although they were busy. They offered to pull any toppings from the back, and some toppings in the front were in a pull-out drawer with attached spoons to prevent cross-contact.”

Cocobella Creamery
Location: Los Angeles, California
“This ice cream is homemade, and every flavor is completely vegan and gluten-free! I was a little hesitant, as they don’t advertise themselves as nut-free or nut allergy friendly, but had a great conversation with the worker when we went in to check it out. All the ice creams are homemade and do not contain tree nuts or peanuts, in addition to gluten, dairy, and eggs (only 1 or 2 contained soy). The only nuts in the facility are toasted almonds, which get added to sundaes and are in the kitchen and the front ice cream area (because of this, they can’t guarantee safety from cross-contamination). They use bases of coconut and oat milk, and the worker checked and asked if coconut would be a problem for me (it’s not). I felt pretty safe and got a scoop of the coconut milk mint chip, which was delicious! The coconut milk can definitely be tasted, but I thought it was an overall pretty tasty vegan ice cream!”

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams
Location: Beverly Hills, California
“I love this place so much. They do an allergy school and will scoop fresh from a new bin in the back. The BEST ice cream flavors on the planet. No other ice cream comes close.”

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream
Location: Los Angeles, California
“We found this place on Yelp and then stopped by. The flavors are labeled on the menu regarding allergens. They did a clean scoop from a fresh bin, too. Or they peeled back layers. I think they did a fresh bin. We’ve been a handful of times, and they have a protocol. My son typically gets something with chocolate.
I noticed they have a vegan menu too, but those flavors include coconut, so we don’t usually order that.”

Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream
Location: Anaheim, California
“This ice cream shop was great! The manager came out and spoke with us about the allergy when we were ordering. He said that the main kitchen that was visible to us could be cross-contaminated with nuts, so my daughter’s ice cream was prepared in the back on a clean surface with clean scoops. When her order was ready, they reiterated the nut allergy. The only ice cream containing nuts while we were there was Rocky Road, but I’m assuming that can change. So fantastic!”

Ginger’s Divine Ice Creams
Location: Los Angeles, California
“This is a great ice cream spot. They have over 10 all-vegan flavors (oat milk-based) and process them separately and use separate scoops. There are some ice creams with nuts, but they keep those together and away from other flavors. We’ve been there many times without an issue. I strongly recommend the burnt lavender vegan ice cream.”

ecco un poco | Natural Italian Gelato
Location: Los Angeles, California
“This Gelato store is COMPLETELY gluten free, they even have flavors like Cookies and Cream or Cheesecake available, but the best part of visiting this place is getting one of their fresh gluten-free Waffle Cones, they’re so so good! All the flavors show the allergens, and the workers explain every allergen knowingly if you mention your allergies. As a great added extra, every flavor has its own scooper, so you can forget about cross-contamination. They also have vegan options available with the use of different plant-based options depending on the flavors. A Must Visit.”
