Tree Nut and Egg-Free Germany Top Picks

Hi! I’m Lucy and I have been working abroad in Germany! I have been able to find many safe spots to safely eat at while managing tree nut and egg allergies. One of my favorite places to eat was Freiburger Kebap where I have safely enjoyed a falafel döner at least once a week! If you visit, you must have a sunset picnic/swim in Seepark (in Freiburg) or go for a hike in the Black Forest. The views are stunning. Eats

zuka solicafé by zusammen leben e.V.

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“A mostly vegan, all vegetarian restaurant! They have a constantly changing menu and are mostly volunteer run so it can be challenging to know the menu before you go, but one of my friends works there and was able to ask ahead of time to make sure they had a menu that was safe for me.

When I went there was one item they weren’t sure was safe (due to cross-contamination) and they made me a safe alternative! They made me french fries because I couldn’t eat the bread dish.

The food was really good and I’d highly recommend going here especially to support their mission and pay it forward to giving a meal to someone who needs it.

The head chef is permanent and knew everything, so once I got to speak with her I felt very taken care of!”

Freiburger Kebap

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“They don’t have anything that contains my allergens, and I would be hesitant if you have a sesame allergy! They have many vegan options and their food is very fresh and delicious. They do only speak German, but they were able to communicate with me that they didn’t have my allergens (and I’m pretty sure they have no nuts!) when I used my allergen translation card!”

L'Osteria Freiburg Rempartstraße

“The menu had vegan/vegetarian labeling, but not any other allergen labeling. Luckily I had my allergen translation card with me and a friend who spoke German. I safely ordered a white sauce pizza and they understood the severity, and double checked with the chef to make sure there hadn’t been an ingredient change in the past few weeks.”

Mr Döner Güterbahnhof

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“I ordered a pizza here, and not only was it delicious, but it was also safe for me to eat! Most of the döner places here do not have nuts or eggs, but I always check just in case. This is a chain which is nice because I can order the same thing anywhere in the city.”

Münstermarkt

Münstermarkt

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“I have been ordering french fries at a french fry stand and they are consistently delicious! They don’t have nuts, and are able to accommodate my egg allergy (because they have mayonnaise!). A great way to get cheap food out in Freiburg and get to enjoy a Freiburg classic with my friends even with food allergies!

Plus, if you opt for one of the reusable containers you save almost a whole euro! (And help the planet)”

Süden

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“When nothing on their original lunch menu was something I could have, they prepared a safe dish on pans that they had specifically cleaned to use to cook my meal. I felt very safe knowing that they were taking my allergies seriously, and I got to enjoy a delicious meal with my friends! (Note that we did call ahead to make sure they could make this accommodation, and they spoke limited English but my friend is fluent in German).”

Milchbar Veneziano

Milchbar Veneziano

Location: Stralsund, Germany

“I got a cup with raspberry and melon sorbet and it was incredible. They got a clean scoop out and even scraped off the working edge of the icecream before serving me. I felt very safe (which was especially important because my home base this summer is in southern Germany and I didn’t know the area) and it was delicious!”

Osteria Dell Oca

Location: Stralsund, Germany

“I was able to order the pasta aglio e olio and they changed the pasta shape to ensure there was no egg in my dish! They were very educated about allergies and took everything very seriously. It was delicious.”

Treats

Gelatogioia

Gelatogioia

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“They only had peanuts, pistachios, and hazelnuts (none of which I’m allergic to—at least anymore!) and thanks to Xolair I don’t have to worry extensively about cross contamination from eggs. They washed a new scoop for me and gave me one of their many vegan flavors. I ordered raspberry (Himbeere) and it was phenomenal.”

Eis Venezia

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“They only had hazelnuts, pistachios, and peanuts. They weren’t as vegan friendly with only two sorbet flavors, but it was still delicious.”

Boaboa

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“I love this place! The only allergen they have of mine is coconut but I am able to safely order most of their drinks! They have alternative milks but not nut based milks!”

La Parisienne Macaronnerie

La Parisienne Macaronnerie

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“They have many vegan macarons (but I didn’t try them because they had nuts in the case). I was able to safely order a panini and sorbet! They had an English menu with all ingredients listed. I was able to communicate in English with them about my allergies to confirm it was safe. It was so delicious!”

Shops

Rewe Center

Rewe Center

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“The best place to find MadeGood bars consistently in Germany is Rewe!”

Kaufland

Kaufland

Location: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

“There are many options that they carry for every type of food. They don’t carry many dedicated allergy-free brands, but they have many well known brands like Barilla, and many of their products don’t contain top 9 allergens.”
