Taco Mama

Location: Auburn, Alabama

“Taco Mama is a must when visiting Auburn! There are endless combinations of meals to order on their menu! You can build your own burrito bowl, tacos, quesadilla, nachos, or burrito! I love how you can add any of their toppings for free! I either get a chicken quesadilla or a burrito bowl! Their service is super quick too!”

Del Taco

Location: Peoria, Arizona

Every time I go to Del Taco, I get the Queso-Loaded nachos, which are amazing! All locations are peanut and tree-nut-free. They have an allergen menu that states this, as well as a notice that their Beyond Meat contains pea protein, which may be a sensitivity for those with legume allergies. I love that they went the extra mile to include this!

Gracias Madre

Location: West Hollywood, California

“I really enjoyed eating at this upscale vegan restaurant last weekend. We got the margarita pitcher, esquites, gorditas, nachos, and flautas and enjoyed everything. It’s definitely pricey, but I appreciated how attentive the waitstaff was and that they ask up front if anyone in your party has allergies when ordering. I felt really safe eating here and would definitely come again.”

21st Amendment Brewery and Restaurant

Location: San Francisco, California

“Haven’t gone for food in about a year but went again last night for drinks. Last year we’d always get the totchos (tater tot nachos) which made everyone very happy! The Hell or High Watermelon beer is fantastic (*note: it is a wheat beer) and served with a fresh slice of watermelon! It is right next to AT&T park, and a perfect spot to stop for snacks or a drink if you’re on your way to a game.”

@tinatu51o who manages celiac

C CASA San Ramon

Location: San Ramon, California

“Dedicated gluten-free taco shop in San Ramon with locations throughout the Bay Area! The food is also completely free of nuts! They do have one dessert item (a brownie) that may or may not have contained nuts – the staff was very educated about menu items, but weren’t sure if the brownie contained tree nuts or was just labeled as may contain tree nuts. Either way, I avoided, but the brownie is kept at the front by the cashier and all other food is made in the kitchen, so I felt completely comfortable! The rotisserie chicken tacos are amazing, as well as the nachos and quesadillas, but everything on the menu always looks delicious! Everything is so fresh and “healthified”, which I love!”

@emsnutfreeeats, who manages celiac and peanut and tree nut allergies

Los Metates

Location: South San Francisco, California

“No nuts on the menu from what I can remember, but it’s a small place with a tiny grill, so shellfish cross-contamination is definitely a concern. I’ve had the chicken tacos here before, which were good, and then another time when they had shellfish on the grill, I had the meat-free nachos, which were also good!”

Chicago Diner

Location: Chicago, Illinois

“So many firsts here!! I had nachos, a milkshake, and mashed potatoes for the first time. They have separate blenders for allergy milkshakes since they have the peanut flavor in the other blender. This place is amazing and the manager came out—she was so knowledgeable and kind. The nachos were only my appetizer, though. I had a lentil loaf with gravy (kind of like meatloaf—the whole restaurant is vegan) that comes with garlic potatoes. I could have mashed potatoes here so of course I ordered them!! Mashed potatoes are so good!! Nachos are so good!! I love strawberry milkshakes!!”

“Perfect for Cinco de Mayo!! We’ve safely eaten here countless times and love it! We also just very comfortably ate here COVID-wise. They have an amazing outdoor patio. My daughter had the nachos and the potato tacos but has also had several other tacos in the past, like the pork, meat, and walking taco. Super fun vibe too!”

@susie who manages peanut and tree nut allergies

Lonesome Rose

Location: Chicago, Illinois

“We ate dinner at the restaurant for the first time with my daughter (we had ordered in before.) We had to wait a bit for our table and sat in the bar area and ordered appetizers and the bartender asked us if we had any food allergies. We don’t order at the bar often (or ever) so it very pleasantly took me by surprise! She safely had chips and guac, vegan nachos, and a veggie burrito!”

“My husband and I came here for my bday and I had the signature nachos and those special birthday donut hole things and didn’t have a reaction to either! I will mention that I didn’t use any of the sauces with the donut holes and I should’ve asked about allergens for those but forgot. So look out for that!”

110 Grill – South Bay

Location: Boston, Massachusetts

“110 Grill is absolutely the best restaurant for anyone with any allergies. The staff is so proactive and educated, and they ask you right when you sit down if anyone has allergies. Almost the entire menu can be made gluten-free, and everything is made to order. When you have an allergy, the manager is required to bring your order out, and they always have allergen sticks. The best part is how amazing the food is!! BBQ nachos, spicy shrimp, flatbreads, mac and cheese…soooo good! I feel so safe here. I would recommend it to anyone with any kind of allergy.”

@celiactivist who manages celiac and an oat allergy

The Paramount

The chef came and chatted with us, confirmed our choices, and modified our nachos because he couldn’t confirm the spices he normally used. He checked back several times and was really kind. The kids had Mac and cheese and fries.”

Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar

“Loco Taqueria is my favorite place to get Mexican food in Boston. Almost the entire menu is gluten-free, and the staff understands what Celiac Disease is. Whenever I mention having a gluten-allergy, they make sure to note it when putting my order in. I placed an order for delivery and made a note of my allergy. I also called, and the employee assured me that they would note it when they put in my order in. When I got my order, my receipt was clearly marked with my allergy and I felt very safe. The nachos are my favorite, and the pineapple guac! They also have gluten-free birria tacos! Definitely recommend Loco for anyone with a gluten intolerance.”

I recommend having your server confirm with the chef what can be made gluten-free because they often change their menu. They will grill taco fillings if you want one of the fried options which is nice! I love the chicken tacos and the shrimp tacos, and the nachos are a must!”

“Cute little walk-up stand to pick up delicious tacos and nachos! They use corn tortillas so it’s more authentic AND gluten-free. @gluttenous who manages celiac and egg and grain allergies

The Urban Tap

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

“The menu is not marked, but the waiters are happy to ask the chefs who are willing to accommodate. In fact, the chef even places every item that may have been contaminated on the side rather than in the plate in order to let you decide if you are comfortable. There are a lot of options that are gluten-free, such as the corn shrimp tacos, salads, poutine, chicken wings, and nachos (pulled pork on the side). So tasty and satisfying!!!”

@gluttenous who manages celiac and egg and grain allergies

Mindful Brewing Company

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

“We have eaten here a few times and there are several safe options for our daughter. They have multiple food items on the menu that are vegan. This is one place where there are at least 3-4 safe options for punkin. One of those safe options is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, so that is worth noting for those with peanut allergies. The staff seems well educated (they know she can’t have a brioche bun for her burger and that the fries go in a communal fryer with dairy). The menu lists which items (from the main course to the sides) are vegan. Last night they even had vegan nachos with an incredible melty vegan cheese!”

Counter Culture

Location: Austin, Texas

“This restaurant was such a cool and surprising find during our trip to Austin! I happened to stumble upon it online and was so glad I did. This vegan restaurant had some AWESOME menu items and great service!! They have lots of gluten-free and soy-free options as well, and a note at the bottom of the menu encourages you to talk to your server about any allergies, as they are able to accommodate. I got some nachos to share and a sandwich (both of which were great) and a piece of cheesecake for dessert. Such a cool restaurant. I’d definitely go again!!”

The nachos are incredible, and so is the corn dip – a must-try!! I also had fried fish tacos (which are rare when you are gluten-free) and they were so good. The staff was kind and helpful, and I truly can’t recommend this spot enough!!”

Sweet Fire Donna’s

Location: Alexandria, Virginia

“Fast casual BBQ place in a cute part of Alexandria (about 5-10 minutes from Old Town). I’ve eaten here more times than I could count for a fast lunch or dinner or even drinks with friends. Fork & Tap

Location: Port Washington, Wisconsin

“Cute waterfront casual and family-friendly spot with a surprisingly helpful menu. Vegan and gluten-free items were noted, and there was a note that there are peanuts in the kitchen because it is in one dish, which we just appreciated to see. Seeing vegan options called out in Wisconsin felt pretty rare too. We shared a few appetizers, including a funnel cake, mozzarella sticks that were gluten-free, nachos, pretzels with cheese dip, and my daughter had a Reuben sandwich with fries (they use soy oil) — our waitress had a tree nut allergy and we felt like we were in very good hands!”
