Peanut, Tree nut, Soy, Legume + Seed-Free Hawaii Travel Guide

Hi! I’m Amy and I recently traveled to Hawaii! I was able to find many spots to safely eat with my daughter’s allergies to peanut, tree nut, soy, legume and seeds. I am excited to share my favorite finds and one of my absolute favorites was Beach House, where my daughter safely had focaccia, grilled fish with sautéed vegetables, rice and lemon cake for dessert! If you’re planning to travel to Kauai, make sure you visit the Na Pali Coast by helicopter or boat! Hale Nalu

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“My daughter’s allergies were noted when we ordered our food and again when the food was brought out. She ordered the pulled pork nachos and fruit platter. Another day she had the pulled pork quesadilla. She also had their shave ice three times!”

Uncle’s Shave Ice & Smoothies

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“Our only allergen here is the macadamia nut ice cream which is stored in a separate freezer away from the shave ice. We were assured no cross-contact.”

Mucho Aloha Brewhouse

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“There are no peanuts, tree nuts or seeds at this restaurant! Food was prepared quickly and was delicious. My daughter got the shrimp tacos and chips with guacamole.”

Ilima Terrace Restaurant

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“Very cautious kitchen and helpful service! The chef came out to speak with us. My daughter ordered the french toast and fruit. She said it was her favorite meal while on vacation!”

Brennecke’s Beach Broiler

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“This restaurant does have tree nuts (macadamia nuts) and sesame in the kitchen. However, our server was excellent. He checked the ingredients for each item and ensured my daughter’s meal was cooked in a clean, separate pan to avoid cross-contact. She ordered the ribeye, shrimp, mashed potatoes and veggies. Delicious!”

Keoki’s Paradise

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“There are quite a few dishes with macadamia nuts and sesame, but our server was very helpful. She confirmed that the fryer oil was canola and there were no nuts or seeds that go in the fryer. The manager came to our table with our Equal Eats card, thanking us for bringing in such a valuable tool. She asked to hold onto it until the meal was served. My daughter was deciding between the fish and chips, coconut shrimp and macaroni and cheese (all could be safely prepared) and chose the macaroni and cheese. She also was offered a romaine salad, rice and fruit for the sides. Food allergies were handled very cautiously and the food was delicious. One of our favorite meals in Poipu.”

Savage Shrimp

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“We found this restaurant to be lacking food allergy awareness. Ingredients were not available and it’s seemed as though we were the first to eat there with food allergies. We felt confident there were no nuts and seeds so we decided to order. It was suggested that my daughter should order tacos, but was served the quesadilla. We ended up not being comfortable and my daughter did not eat anything.”

Kalapaki Joe’s Poipu

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“We visited this restaurant for breakfast. My daughter ordered the papaya fruit bowl which is prepared in an area where her allergens are not present.”

Honolulu Coffee at Grand Hyatt Kauai

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“Everything on the menu had a list of ingredients. Very allergen friendly!”

Lava’s on Poipu Beach

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“Our server was very accommodating and helpful. My daughter ordered the continental breakfast and pulled pork (just pork and salt!). It was delicious.”

Lappert’s Hawaii

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“They will use a freshly cleaned scooper and get a fresh batch of ice cream from the back freezer!”

Beach House Restaurant – Kauai

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“Amazing dining experience that even included bread and dessert! Our server was fantastic. She double checked everything with the kitchen and explained their strict allergen protocol that would be followed. This included new gloves and clean pans. My daughter ordered the grilled fish with rice and veggies. Everything is made in house! She was able to eat the focaccia brought out with our drinks and EVERY dessert on the menu was an option for her. This never happens. We would love to visit again!”

Papalani Gelato Poipu Shopping Village

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“We visited this gelato shop twice because it was delicious and the employees were so helpful and friendly. A clean scooper was used on a fresh bin of birthday cake gelato for my daughter. Every flavor we sampled and ordered was so good!”

Living Foods

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“Our server was excellent in TRIPLE checking that there were no allergens or cross-contact in our meal. Everything made in house so all ingredients are available. There are peanuts, tree nuts and seeds in the kitchen but only in salads and smoothies which made ordering easier. My daughter got the fish and chips. We loved this restaurant so much that we went back for a second dinner. This time the manager came out and assured us our food would be prepared safely. My daughter ordered the fish and chips again.”

Kauai Island Brewing Company – Koloa

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“Our server was terrific! He took our Equal Eats card to the kitchen and found that the fryer was not safe for my daughter. There are peanuts and tree nuts in the kitchen but the pulled pork and burgers would be ok. She ordered pulled pork and purchased a package of buns from the grocery store next door. Our server was terrific and because my daughter could not be completely accommodated, the restaurant gave us a discount!”

Seaview Terrace

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“This restaurant was very thorough with our allergies. We ate dinner here twice. My daughter’s first meal request contained an item that the kitchen did not have the ingredients for, so they didn’t feel comfortable serving it. They suggested several meals which they could ensure no allergens or cross-contact. The options included steak, fish and chicken. She had steak, rice, veggies and fruit. On our second visit here, she ordered chicken, rice and veggies. The Anniversary Trio dessert was allergen friendly as well. We felt so confident and comfortable eating here.”

Kauai Diner

Location: Lihue, Hawaii

“Basic breakfast diner that we stopped at on the way to the North Shore. My daughter ordered an omelet with rice. We were assured by the server her meal would be allergen-free.”

Sheraton Kauai Resort

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“Our room was clean and there was a mini fridge. We felt comfortable eating at the restaurant on site. My daughter had the continental breakfast and pulled pork. There are several restaurants across the street and walking distance. We visited Starbucks, Papalani Gelato, Keoki’s Paradise and there is a Whaler’s General store.”

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

Location: Koloa, Hawaii

“We just spent 8 days here and loved every minute. The rooms are immaculate and there is a mini fridge and area to store food. We felt comfortable eating at all the restaurants on site. We ate here many times because it was not just convenient but reliable. The kitchens were extremely allergy friendly. The servers and chefs are more than happy to assist you and ensure your safety. While we didn’t need a doctor this time, when we stayed here years ago, there was a trained medical professional on site. This is the place to visit and truly relax with food allergies.”
