Peanut-Free Greece Top Picks

Hi! I’m Alyssa and I recently traveled to Greece for my honeymoon! I found many safe spots to eat while managing a peanut allergy and shared them on the Spokin app—they are also all featured in this guide. One of my favorites was Bariello in Milos, where I had Bougatsa Ice Cream! A fun thing to do if you are in Greece is take a catamaran boat cruise to the secret beaches around the island. The Karamanlidika Fanis

The Karamanlidika Fanis

Location: Athens, Greece

“We met my husband’s Greek family here for dinner. They said it was a fabulous spot in Athens, authentic and loved by the locals. It is considered a Pastomageirio—“An eatery specializing in charcuterie and all kinds of preserved meats”—so most of the menu was mezze/tapas style. His family did most of the ordering in Greek, but the staff also seemed to speak English. My favorite dish was the Kefte sausage with yogurt sauce and pita, but all the food was incredible! There were minimal nuts on the menu from what I saw— mostly just pistachios in the Baklava dessert. We had such a lovely meal here!”

Vasi

Vasi

Location: Athens, Greece

“A cute, clean, and centrally-located boutique hotel in Athens! We stayed here for two nights before flying back to Chicago—it’s in the Psyri neighborhood, which is apparently a hipster part of town. We were able to walk to the Acropolis and the Archeological Museum from this location, and it’s about 45 minutes from the Athens airport. The room was well stocked with complimentary water, pop, and wine—plus a good-sized fridge! We never ate the continental breakfast here, so I can’t speak to whether it’s safe or not. Our room had a little view of the Acropolis!”

Electra Palace Athens

Electra Palace Athens

Location: Athens, Greece

“We ate at the rooftop restaurant at Electra Palace on our last night in Greece, and it was stunning! The views of the Acropolis were amazing. I was able to add my allergies to our reservation, so our server already knew about them when he came to our table. I was recommended to avoid all of the desserts, but I safely enjoyed the sourdough bread and the asparagus agnolotti pasta. Be sure to make your reservation for sunset so you can see the Parthenon all lit up!”

Chania Cooking Class

Chania Cooking Class

Location: Nerokouros, Greece

“What an incredible way to learn about traditional Cretan cuisine! This is a small, family-owned business that hosts the cooking class out of their olive farm. My husband and I did “The Authentic” class, which was oven-roasted lamb, stuffed vegetables, tzatziki, and dakos! No nuts were used in any of the dishes on the menu, so I felt safe booking, but Veerna asked about allergies before we started, too! Another man in our class had a gluten allergy, and they were able to accommodate him with gluten-free flour. This was 10000% worth the money, extremely well-run, and such a great experience!”

Barolo Restaurant

Barolo Restaurant

Location: Fira, Greece

“I saw this place all over TikTok and really wanted to try while we were in Santorini. You wouldn’t believe the beautiful sunset views of the caldera! For dinner, I was able to safely enjoy the grilled octopus appetizer (just a little bite at the request of my husband), mushroom risotto, and tiramisu. Barolo had some of our favorite cocktails from the trip, too!”

Cave Suites Milos

Cave Suites Milos

Location: Κaminia, Greece

“I cannot say enough good things about Cave Suites Milos! It’s a small, six-room boutique hotel with incredible hospitality and beautiful views of the port. Our room had a private pool and outdoor patio, with breakfast-in-bed served each morning. You wouldn’t believe how incredible the spread was! You can really see the love, care, and attention to detail given to each dish, especially the expertly crafted fruit platters. The omelets and the bougatsa were our favorites! Calliope, the hotel owner, taught us a few words in Greek every morning when she dropped the food off to us! They serviced our room twice per day, so we were always getting refreshed towels and bottles of water.

As an aside, I would definitely recommend renting a car if you stay here, or really anywhere in Milos. It’s really easy to navigate this island by car, and great for seeing all the different towns and beaches!”

Solo Gelato

Location: Thira, Greece

“I saw a positive Spokin review for a different Solo Gelato location and decided to give it a try! There were several flavors with tree nuts, but none with peanuts at this location. The server was super kind and even double-checked the Oreo ingredients for the Cookies and Crème flavor that I wanted. It was delicious and I was so excited to find a safe sweet treat in Santorini!”

Pitogyros Traditional Grill House - Gyros, souvlaki, kebab.

Pitogyros Traditional Grill House

Location: Oia, Greece

“My husband and I came to Greece feening for Souvlaki, and this place did not disappoint! We found it through the Spokin app and were also recommended it by locals. His family (with Greek roots) grew up making this dish—and he said his pita wrap “tasted like home.”

Seajets

Location: Pireas, Greece

“We used Seajets ferries to travel between Crete, Santorini, Milos, and Athens. They were all very clean and relaxing! They had several little cafes on board—serving both prepackaged and freshly made snacks—but I never purchased anything from them. I stuck to eating my own safe snacks on board. Highly recommend this form of transportation between the islands!”

PALLAS

Location: Chania, Greece

“What a beautiful spot to watch the sunset over the Venetian Port in Chania! My Equal Eats card really came in handy here. When I tried to order the lamb shank, I was told to avoid because “it uses a lot of ingredients.” I find that lots of restaurants abroad have difficulty differentiating peanuts from tree nuts—but I’d rather be safe than sorry, so I happily picked something else. I safely enjoyed the caesar salad and the chicken! Please note that if you eat at the bar, they unpromptedly give you a mixed nuts bowl with your drinks. We asked for them to take it away and had no issues.”

One Of One Santorini

Location: Imerovigli, Greece

“Cannot say enough good things about One of One! We stayed here for two nights on our honeymoon. The staff stood out as being especially friendly and accommodating. A sizable breakfast is included with your stay. You order through their app, and it’s delivered to your room each morning. I was really impressed that I could sign a form at check-in that notified the kitchen staff of my allergies! You can also add your allergies in the app when you order. The private, in-suite pool was to die for, and our room was incredibly stunning! Would stay here again in a heartbeat!”

Medusa

Medusa

Location: Mandrakia, Greece

“So worth the wait—Medusa was a highlight of our trip! The fishing town of Mandrakia is such a treasure, and it was so beautiful to watch the sun set over the sea from our table. My husband said their Swordfish Souvlaki was one of his favorite dishes he has EVER had—I was brave and tried a bite too! I used my Equal Eats card, and the kitchen had no issue accommodating my allergy. They recommended I avoid the dessert, but I safely enjoyed the French fries, Greek salad, and tzatziki. Get a drink while you wait for your table and explore the town!”

Barriello

Barriello

Location: Τripiti, Greece

“Wow! We were blown away by Bariello! Probably my favorite meal we had in Greece. Bariello is a family-owned, farm-to-table restaurant that grows its own vegetables and herbs right here in Milos! We were treated to a lovely table overlooking the sea for sunset. The owner of the restaurant was our server, so it was very easy to review allergies with him. There were no peanuts on the menu, and very few items had tree nuts. I safely enjoyed the traditional pie appetizer, garden rigatoni, and bougatsa ice cream dessert. I will be dreaming about this meal forever!”

Ammoudi Fish Tavern

Ammoudi Fish Tavern

Location: Santorini, Greece

“What an incredible place to watch the Santorini sunset! We had eaten dinner already and came here for drinks and desserts. I felt comfortable climbing down all 220 of the Ammoudi Bay stairs, knowing two families had already reviewed this restaurant! We ordered the Loukamades without knowing it had walnuts—which are safe for me now, but I prefer not to eat them, especially in a foreign country. The staff was happy to remake it for us!”

Atlantica Kalliston Resort

Atlantica Kalliston Resort

Location: Chania, Greece

“At check-in, the staff asked about allergies and helped me set up an appointment to speak with the chef! There are several on-site restaurants, cafes, and bars. Everything was labeled extensively for allergies. There were a few items with peanuts (desserts, peanut butter at breakfast, mixed bar nuts), but the large majority of food was safe for me. The resort was stunning and we loved our stay here!”

Vlahos

Vlahos

Location: Pefkohori, Greece

“Such a cute and shaded spot for authentic gyros and souvlaki in Plaka! We were recommended this spot by a local on our boat cruise. Their menu was not available online, so we checked it over at the restaurant before getting a table. There were no obvious nuts, other than in the desserts. We safely enjoyed the chicken souvlaki pita wrap, lamb gyro, tzatziki, French fries, two Cokes, and two Greek beers for less than €30!”

Let’s Meat Souvlaki

Location: Adamas, Greece

“A great spot for takeaway by the Adamantas Port! I safely enjoyed the lamb gyro and Greek salad. We wanted to go back the next day before our ferry left, but they weren’t open until noon. It’s a very traditional Greek menu, so no peanuts in the kitchen. Our food was ready so fast!”

Souvlaki Leivadia

Souvlaki Leivadia

Location: Athens, Greece

“We stopped here for lunch after the National Archeological Museum and ordered the “Menu for 2 Persons”—it comes with six souvlaki skewers, four pitas, a Greek salad, tzatziki, fries, and two drinks for €25. No obvious nuts on the menu, and they fry in sunflower oil. The service was fast and friendly!”

Aegean Airlines

Aegean Airlines

Location: Athens, Greece

“We flew Aegean Airlines from Athens to Chania, Crete. It was a super short flight (45 minutes), so they only served drinks on the flight. I did not attempt to pre-board because we were in Business Class and in the first boarding group anyways. I was really nervous to fly on a foreign airline, but my experience was very positive!”
