Nut-Free Netherlands and Belgium Travel Top Picks

Hi! I’m Lindsay, and I recently traveled to the Netherlands and Belgium! I found many safe spots to eat while managing peanut, cashew, pistachio, walnut, and pecan allergies and shared them on the Spokin app—all of my finds are also all featured in this guide. One of my favorites was Henri Willig Kaas, where my kids could try all the different Dutch cheeses! A fun thing to do if you are in the Netherlands is to visit the windmills in Zaanse Schans. “Completely nut-free candy shop!”

Go.fre | Belgian Waffles on a Stick

Location: Brugge, Belgium

“I emailed with this waffle place ahead of our trip. As for nuts, they only have hazelnuts, and could safely accommodate us. The waffles are gluten-free, also! My kids didn’t get hazelnuts as a topping, and when looking at the pre-packaged ones containing hazelnuts, I believe there was an allergy statement (in Flemish) about potential cross-contamination. Be sure to check if you get the hazelnut, flavor just in case!”

Bistrobar Boreas

“I contacted this restaurant ahead of time and they said there were no issues accommodating the allergy. I didn’t see any nuts on the menu, but we didn’t look at the dessert menu either.”

“We visited Henri Willig to see the farm, tour the dairy operations, and cheese-making process. We finished in their tasting room where everyone working there was extremely knowledgeable. No nuts in any of the cheeses, and there are lots of flavors! Amazing cheese!”

Poffertjes Real Dutch Pancakes

Poffertjes Real Dutch Pancakes

Location: Volendam, Netherlands

“We all had the poffertjes (small Dutch pancakes). Both the waffles and the poffertjes are free of nuts, and the majority of the toppings are nut-free. They have Nutella (which my kids aren’t allergic to), and Snickers as an option, which we avoided. A must-try in the Netherlands!”

“We just grabbed a quick snack here at their walk-up window. No nuts listed on the menu!”

Zaanse Schans
