“All of the food is made to order right in front of you. Owner/operator on the grill informed other staff member of my sons milk allergy, gloves were changed, prep area cleaned thoroughly before they made his dedicated meal. Both members double checked for other hidden allergens and our meal was served personally to ensure grill to table cleanliness. Plus, they have Dole Whip.”

CALIFORNIA

Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats

Location: Anaheim, California

“This is a frozen treats kiosk in Disney’s CA Adventure on Pixar Pier. Everything on the menu does not contain nuts! They have vanilla and chocolate soft serve, which both contain dairy, and Dole Whip lemon soft serve, which is top 8 free! Anything can be put in a cup or a cone and has the option to be dipped in melted white chocolate—I didn’t ask about chocolate cross-contamination but instead just avoided. Instead I got the Pixar Pier frosty which is blue raspberry icee mixed with lemon soft serve! It was delicious! From what I could tell, the dairy containing flavors had their own machine. The white chocolate was to the left of that machine. They made the dairy-free frosty treats on the other side of the counter where the icee and dedicated lemon soft serve machine were located. Although it was a small kitchen, their cross-contamination protocol was great, and I felt totally fine eating a delicious, safe treat!”

Disney Land Park

Location: Anaheim, California

“Okay-I love Disneyland. It may be a bit cliche, but for me, “happiest place on earth” rings very true. The only thing that has sometimes rained on my parade is the food. I’ve been there around once every three years, and in the past I’ve experienced the typical unintended exclusion that comes from having food allergies: I wasn’t able to have Mickey bars, or popcorn, lollipops, or anything that everybody else was having besides beverages. But I recently went to Disneyland and to California Adventure, and it was like entering another universe! I went to the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and I was able to order the blue milk (which was made with rice milk and coconut milk then) and I ordered some very cool popcorn (spicy and sweet). I was able to have a huge turkey leg, the classic Dole whip soft serve, fries and plant based skewers, cotton candy, and some pretty awesome mint juleps (non-alcoholic). The place where I had dinner was the Hungry Bear, and they had an allergy menu and the chef was available to come out. Day two I was able to have an orange creamsicle-like drink without the cream, a white cherry slush, and an awesome lunch of a burger and fries where the chef came out again and helped us with our order. Plus, the Disneyland app had restaurant menus, which included allergy versions. Let’s just say that at sometime during day, I said, “I guess I am in the happiest place on earth.” (Note: ask to see food binders with list of ingredients. Also, keep checking the ingredients and procedures, because we all know how those are subject to change)”

Tiki Juice Bar

Location: Anaheim, California

“The whole tiki juice bar is top 8 free! They only have two things on the menu: pineapple Dole Whip soft serve and pineapple Dole Whip float with pineapple juice! Dole Whip is vegan, gluten, peanut, and tree nut-free—I have been eating it for years and have never had an issue! The Dole Whip machines have never had milk flavors in them, as the pineapple is the only permanent flavor, so no worries about cross-contamination! Personally, I prefer just the soft serve because the pineapple juice is a bit tart, but so good to have a safe place to enjoy treats at Disneyland!”

@emsnutfreeeats who manages peanut and tree nut allergies and a gluten intolerance

Tropical Hideaway

Location: Anaheim, California

“They do have seasonal items with nuts (especially peanuts), so I avoid everything here but the Dole Whip. It comes out of its own machine and never touched any shared services, so I feel pretty safe, but always ask the staff to change gloves to be on the safe side! They have pineapple, mango, raspberry, and lemon, and all the flavors are top 8 allergen-free!”

Collins Dining Hall

Location: Claremont, California

“Claremont McKenna College’s dining hall is called Collins and all 5C students can eat there. They are owned by Bon Appetit and have a pretty thorough allergen policy! Everything is labeled pretty clearly for allergens, although I do eat with some caution as there are sometimes menu items with peanuts and tree nuts. They have a top 8 allergen-free station that’s open all times which is great but often doesn’t have the best/tastiest options. What I do love, is they have a full display case full of packaged gluten-free Udi’s bagels, muffins, bread, and breakfast items. Collins also keeps peanut butter in single serve packets to help prevent any cross-contamination. They also have a Dole Whip machine! Usually there are allergy-friendly options and I do feel safe eating here, but I also sometimes bring in my own food, which has never been a problem!”

Cinnaholic

Location: Los Angeles, California

“I am in love with this fully vegan cinnamon roll chain with locations across North America. I first tried Cinnaholic in Toronto in 2017 when I lived there and was hooked. I felt so safe being able to build my own cinnamon roll and knowing there was no dairy or eggs at all on the premises. I was beyond excited when I moved back to LA and discovered they have a location out here. The customer service is great and while some of their toppings do contain nuts, they are more than happy to use fresh toppings from the back and take cross-contamination very seriously. If you’re gluten free, the options are definitely limited (although they do have a killer Dole whip in the summertime). Their cookie dough is another highlight! My cinnamon roll usually consists of adding cream cheese frosting, a scoop of cookie dough, strawberries, and graham cracker crumbs on top of an Old Skool roll. Delish and very allergy-friendly!”

Lappert’s Ultra Premium Ice Cream

Meadowlark Dairy

Location: Pleasanton, California

“I have been having the ice cream here for 10+ years and have never had an issue with my nut allergies! All soft serve ice cream comes out of machines, and there are no toppings. They always have chocolate and vanilla (contains dairy) and strawberry and orange (vegan – manufactured by Dole Whip, ingredients online). They do have seasonal flavors (pumpkin, cake batter, etc.) occasionally, but in all my years getting ice cream here, I have never seen a flavor that has a chance of containing peanuts or tree nuts. They will put soft serve ice cream in cups with spoons for those with gluten allergies, and everyone wears gloves, so there’s no concern about gluten cross-contact. Teenagers who work there don’t know much about allergies, so I wouldn’t expect any info about ingredients. I always stick to the vanilla and chocolate machine (or the strawberry/orange Dole Whip machine which are there year-round) because I know there won’t be any cross-contamination with seasonal flavors and have always been fine! Highly recommend the strawberry Dole Whip swirled with vanilla ice cream!”

Florida State University

“I went on a tour today and I was so impressed with the dining hall. I only went to the Suwannee Room, but I think it’s all I will need. They have a True Balance which is top 9-free (with its own kitchen). I had turkey, Brussels sprouts, corn, and roasted potatoes. So yum!! And they have a Dole Whip machine!! Like what! The nutritionist was so knowledgeable and took me around the dining hall, showing me what I could and couldn’t eat. She granted my dad and I access to the “Worry-Free Zone”, which was a room inside the dining hall that was strictly peanut, tree nut, and gluten-free. You had to leave your things outside and needed a card to swipe in order to get in. I was in love!! I had seen rooms like these on my college tours before, but I think this one is the best. The nutritionist said it was low stocked right now because it’s summer—so I’m curious to see what I looks like fully stocked. There was an ingredient binder on the counter of everything in the room, and I saw so many products that I could have, such as sun butter cups, enjoy life bars, cereal, gluten-free and vegan bread, safe microwaveable meals, and my absolute favorite, single packed VEGAN mochi!! Good job FSU you are a great contender!!”

Island Fin Poké Company – The Villages

Location: The Villages, Florida

“I emailed the owner beforehand and he described the precautions to keep all the products separate, both in prep and serving. The store is completely gluten-free, and he mentioned macadamia nuts, but then the employee we talked with said there were actually none in the building. So it’s also nut-free. I got a bowl with white rice (+seasoning), salmon, tuna, seaweed salad, ginger, corn, mango, cucumber, and extra seaweed on top (the dry nori kind, cut into strips). I got the Ponzu sauce in the bowl and Ono Ono sauce on the side, which is the only dairy-free finishing sauce they have. The other 4 have mayo or creama. It was really good!! It was my first poké bowl. THEN when we were eating, a different employee gave us little sample cups of half vanilla Dole Whip and half orange Dole Whip. Of course I can’t have the vanilla Dole Whip (flashbacks to my reaction at Disney) so I asked for a orange Dole Whip by itself and she did so happily. It was so yummy. I will go again!”

HAWAII

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa

Location: Kapolei, Hawaii

“We stayed 6 nights and barely used the kitchen in our villa (mostly just for easy breakfast/lunches). All food items are clearly labeled in Ulu Cafe and my girls (dairy and egg and tree nut) were able to safely eat many orders of chicken strips and fries (although we were advised of risk of cross-contamination), PB and J, Burgers, bagels, and many other snacks and cereals on the resort. There is a Dole Whip stand as well as a shave ice stand (both can be dairy-free) which was super fun for my kids to try and order for themselves. The staff at the Luau was particularly helpful and our cast member/server introduced me personally to the head chef to go over ingredients and he customized a bento box for each of my daughters to enjoy during the show. We successfully attended a character breakfast, ate at two separate restaurants and ordered poolside almost daily‚more than we’ve ever eaten out on vacation before! I can’t say enough positive things about how much we felt cared for and how confident and knowledgeable every single cast member was that we came in contact with regarding food allergies. Additionally, all food came out of the kitchen with an ‘allergy’ pick in it. We will be back Aulani!”

Dole Plantation

The manager on site assured me and confirmed that there were no nuts as toppings nearby. The Dole Whip is served through a machine, so no scoops were used, except for extra chopped pineapples. It was delicious and a perfect cool treat en route to North Shore. There are roasted nuts in the souvenir store, so be careful if you have airborne allergy to nuts.”

We order vanilla/choc swirl consistently (always in the same machine). We don’t order toppings but they have offered to open fresh packages if we want anything (they do have Oreos). If you go during the summer, the line is always out the door and around the corner – so full transparency that i personally never eat here during those times because the cross contact and rush make me nervous. If you go during “off hours” i feel more comfortable asking questions. They let me read the ingredients from their binder as well. Soft serve (no toppings) is usually my safest bet but they also offer vegan ice cream, and “dole whip” if those fit your dietary restrictions. NEW YORK

Ice Cream Station

“We visited Ice Cream Station after a recommendation from a fellow allergy mom, and we’re so glad we did! I reached out to them via Instagram with questions about ingredients in their Dole Whip flavors and chocolate/vanilla soft serve, as well as whether those soft serves are always housed in the same machine (to reduce cross-contact risks). They responded within minutes with detailed info—including the fact that the vanilla side can come into contact with allergens like peanut butter and pistachios due to the attached flavor burst feature. Thanks to their transparency, we were able to safely order chocolate and vanilla twist soft serve for our kids. The staff took allergies seriously—making a note of them and washing their hands before serving us. We opted for small soft serve cups for the kids and medium cups for the adults, and next time we’ll all size down—the portions are super generous!”

Warning—LOTS of nuts on menu!”

Jumpin’ Jack’s Drive-In

Location: Scotia, New York

“This seasonal drive-in can be very busy during nice weather, so I knew a conversation in line about allergies wasn’t feasible. I emailed before our visit to explain our allergies — peanut, tree nuts, and eggs — and I listed a few specific menu items I had questions about. The manager who replied shared that he has an egg allergy, so his responses to my questions were in-depth and knowledgeable. He stated that the charcoal pit is 100% peanut and tree nut-free. Most food is egg free except for the veggie burgers, coleslaw, and Mayo. Fried foods are prepared in separate fryers. The fish is made with an egg and dairy substitute batter. The ice cream stand does serve peanuts and sometimes peanut butter ice cream. They also serve Dole Whip and Temptation dairy-free ice cream. My kids safely enjoyed hot dogs, fries, onion rings, and Dole Whip. If you’re VERY strict about potential cross-contact, you may want to skip this.”

SOUTH CAROLINA

The Pineapple Hut

Location: Charleston, South Carolina

“Dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan and more pineapple soft serve (no nuts on menu/dedicated soft serve machines). Similar to Dole Whip from Disney but even fewer ingredients. Wonderful to find an allergy friendly ice cream treat on a hot day in Charleston! All they serve is soft serve, pineapple and a few toppings.”

TEXAS

Hawaiian Bros Island Grill

Location: Allen, Texas

“They have a great allergen menu online that is very clear! All menu items are nut free (some in their detailed listing are same plant or lines), but I had no issues here with peanut and tree nut allergies. I also got a Dole Whip which is always a favorite sweet treat!”

UTAH

Oakley Rodeo

Location: Oakley, Utah

“Never in a million years did I think we would find Dole Whip at a rodeo with just food trucks, but it was there!!! Our daughter was thrilled to get to eat that for a snack. The fried dough also seemed like a possibility. Owner of the food truck didn’t seem 100% certain so we passed, but ingredients appeared safe and not using peanut oil to fry.”

VIRGINIA

sweetFrog – Premium Frozen Yogurt

Location: Manassas, Virginia

“They had a mango sorbet, watermelon sorbet and pineapple Dole Whip as their dairy-free flavors. Sweet frogs change their flavors often so it was nice to see 3 possible favors that my kiddo could have. We never get the toppings.”

Blast Soft Serve

Location: Sheboygan, Wisconsin

“Another successful trip and I noticed a huge Dole Whip sign. Also thus is the bargain of the century! Finally took our allergy daughter here! She had a soft serve twist with sprinkles. And they are now carrying popcorn and kettle corn and they said it was made in coconut oil (my daughter is not allergic to coconut.) Update: We came back and my other non-allergic daughter had a banana split. Very consistent experience and can’t wait to take our allergy girl here! We did not come with here with our allergy daughter but this is such a find I think especially if you have a dairy or nut allergy. They offer soft serve including a Dole Whip dedicated machine! They did have a few topping with nuts but no nuts go in the regular soft serve which is chocolate or vanilla. The portions are HUGE. My non-allergic daughter got a root beer float that also came with an entire bottle of root beer. They also offer pup cups and it was a tiny soft serve cone that we gave to our dog. Precious. This is also super close to the water park and the Blue Harbor hotel. Definitely would recommend!!”

FRANCE

Disneyland Paris

Location: Coupvray, France

“I was scared to try and eat here after hearing that they weren’t very accommodating. However, I had no problem eating here with my allergies! The staff were very helpful and pulled out an allergy menu/binder whenever I told them about my allergy. I ate a barbecue turkey leg and Dole Whip (which is different from the United States version of Dole Whip) here! The actual park and rides were so much fun as well.”
