“No trip to NYC is complete for us without a stop A La Mode—they are an entirely peanut, tree-nut and sesame-free ice cream shop so my kiddo can enjoy without having to worry about cross-contamination. Not all of their flavors are gluten-free, so I like to get their soft serve to avoid any risk of cross-contamination.

Shop Dedicated Free Of:
Peanut, Tree Nut (including coconut), Egg, Fish, Shellfish, Sesame, Mustard, Sunflower, Legumes
Other Allergens They Can Accommodate: Milk, Wheat, Gluten

“A la mode ice cream lived up to the hype. We visited this amazing shop in East Hampton, NY. They are completely nut, peanut, egg and sesame free. They do have dairy but they have many flavors of dairy free ice cream and dairy free sorbet in a completely separate cooler as well as dairy-free chocolate/vanilla/swirl soft serve.

We visited them 3 times on our week long vacation. It was so great to let my son choose from several flavors and the staff was so knowledgable. I would’ve bought shirts and hats if they sold them!”

Mr. Gene’s Beans

Location: Fairhope, Alabama

“Love this local ice cream shop for its charm but also because I have never been when they didn’t have a dairy/gluten/nut free soft serve option (usually a sorbet). They do have many other ice cream and topping options, but from what I have been told they always use the same machine for the non-dairy soft serve to avoid cross-contamination. If for whatever reason the non-dairy soft serve is down, they also have great popsicles, sodas, and novelty candies that are allergy-friendly as well! All around great place!”

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

“Excellent vegan soft serve and baked goods. Made to order cakes available too.”

@carolynr, who manages beef, egg, and milk allergies

Green New American Vegetarian

Location: Tempe, Arizona

“Vegan restaurant—no milk or eggs in the building. Helpful labeling for gluten allergies. Peanuts and some tree nuts present in the back so emphasize cleaning to avoid cross-contamination. Mostly soy based dairy alternatives. HIGHLY recommend the tsoynami soft serve soy ice cream!”

@serenesafe, who manages peanut, tree nut, milk, and sesame allergies

Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats

Location: Anaheim, California

“This is a frozen treats kiosk in Disney’s California Adventure on Pixar Pier. Everything on the menu does not contain nuts! They have vanilla and chocolate soft serve, which both contain dairy, and dole whip lemon soft serve, which is top 8 free!”

@emsnutfreeeats, who manages celiac and peanut and tree nut allergies

Tropical Hideaway

Location: Anaheim, California

“All the dole whip flavors are vegan and completely nut-free! My favorite is the traditional pineapple, but they also have orange, raspberry, and some other limited edition fruit flavors from time to time. All the flavors are completely dairy-free and come out of a soft-serve machine, so there are no cross-contamination concerns. From what I could see the Dole Whip machines were being manned by different workers than were handing out the food, and because it is a soft-serve machine, there was no shared handling.”

@emsnutfreeeats, who manages celiac and peanut and tree nut allergies

Golden Spoon

Location: Anaheim, California

“Been coming here for years. Even though most of their staff is high school aged they’re very thorough with allergies. They will clean the soft serve machines for you to ensure there’s no cross-contamination. Typically nut flavors are in the same machine. I avoid the toppings area to be extra safe but the soft serve is always fine for me.”

@janelled, who manages peanut and tree nut allergies

Honeymee Irvine

Location: Irvine, California

“This was hard to find, but it’s a super delicious little ice cream chain! Delicious soft serve and milkshakes (although I avoid those). I always double-check the ingredients, but it’s worth it!”

Location: Los Angeles, California

“Dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and nut-free shaved ice in LA! They also just added vegan soft-serve which is made with oat milk, so it was totally safe! They also have 4 food trucks that are open most days of the week and alternate different locations. I found it hard to tell which trucks were open on their website but saw after that they always post where they are the morning of on Instagram, so check out their social media if you’re in the area! Highly recommend stopping by one of their trucks if it’s close by!”

Meadowlark Dairy

Location: Pleasanton, California

“I have been having the ice cream here for 10+ years and have never had an issue with my nut allergies! All soft serve ice cream comes out of machines, and there are no toppings. They always have chocolate and vanilla (contains dairy) and strawberry and orange (vegan—manufactured by dole whip, ingredients online). They will put soft serve ice cream in cups with spoons for those with gluten allergies, and everyone wears gloves, so there’s no concern about gluten cross-contact. Highly recommend the strawberry dole whip swirled with vanilla ice cream!”

@emsnutfreeeats, who manages celiac and peanut and tree nut allergies

Location: Pleasanton, California

“At this location, the menu indicated which flavors have nuts. They have 2 or 3 items that have nuts—hazelnut and custard. They did not have sesame. This place does soft serve and custard in these fish shell waffles. My son got ube (taro) soft serve swirl with cookies and cream soft serve. What got me was that I mentioned the nut and sesame allergy and then I saw the receipt! It said “nut allergy + change gloves” I was impressed and we’ll go here again to this branch. (Other sites may be different, so always check)”

@jrbruin, who manages peanut, tree nut, sesame and agave allergies

Pizzeria Delfina

@awissink, who manages celiac and peanut, tree nut, and wheat allergies

Mister Softee

Location: Santa Barbara, California

“My daughter and I rode our bikes here to try their soft serve ice cream. I had reached out ahead of time to determine if she could safely eat there as most ice cream spots are a no-go due to cross-contamination. I was super pleased with the transparency in their communication with me. We both had a vanilla and chocolate twist in a gluten-free cone. When they took our order, they marked ‘allergy’ on it and were sure to wipe everything down and wash their hands before preparing our cones. We held off on toppings to minimize the risk. I was super impressed with their protocols and will absolutely be returning.”

@glutenfreeinsb, who manages celiac and peanut and tree nut allergies

Pressed Juicery

Mystic River Chocolate Cafe

Location: Groton, Connecticut

@celiacfoodlover, who manages celiac

Three Girls Vegan Downtown

Location: Guilford, Connecticut

“They recently opened a bakery at a second location in Connecticut. I had their soft serve ice cream with chocolate dip on a cone. They have a few different soft serve flavors and a choice of chocolate or cherry dip and other toppings. They also make soft-serve sundaes, shakes, and ice cream cakes. Their soft serve is oat milk-based. I believe they use almond milk as well. Their cones are gluten-free. Everything on their menu is dairy-free, vegan, and delicious!”

@paquetnr, who manages peanut and tree nut allergies

Kohr Brothers Frozen Custard

Location: Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

“This is one of my absolute favorite ice cream places! Technically it’s frozen custard, but it’s delicious all the same. They use soft serve machines so there’s no cross-contamination, and the only flavor with nuts is peanut butter, which is on a separate machine from most other flavors. I usually get vanilla twisted with orange, which is AMAZING!”

@bakerkitten, who manages tree nut allergies

@stephsorkin, who manages tree nut, shrimp, and seed allergies

@purplegirl, who manages peanut and tree nut allergies

Hampton Chocolate Factory

Location: Tampa, Florida

“We found this spot on TikTok for their famous HUGE soft serve ice cream (it’s 5 lbs of ice cream!) and a ton of toppings – came here with my non allergy daughter and would have never thought it could be allergy friendly but the only ice cream they have is soft serve and only in vanilla or chocolate. They also have cups not just cones and they said they absolutely can handle allergies – at least nuts. They definitely do have nuts but I would be comfortable that I could find something for my daughter. Pro tip: get the kids size cup – it was huge!”

@susie, who manages peanut and tree nut allergies

Big Softie

Banan Waikiki Beach Shack

@amandayoung03, who manages peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, fish, and shellfish allergies

Niu Soft Serve Parlour

Location: Honolulu, Hawaii

“They do serve some nuts (macadamia nut topping and peanut butter smoothies). I asked if any of the soft serve flavors had nuts, and they said no and listed off all the options that would be safe for me and any modifications I should make. When I asked about the waffle cones, the woman went to call her son on the phone to ask. I ended up getting the Hot Kulolo sundae and they offered to give me Oreos as a topping again instead of the standard macadamia nuts. I love this spot and definitely recommend it!”

@amandayoung03, who manages peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, fish, and shellfish allergies

Lahaina Ice Cream Parlour

Location: Lahaina, Hawaii

“Although this is an ice cream shop (serving Lappert’s ice cream) we were safely able to have Dole Whip Soft Serve here. The staff was very accommodating and let me read the package labeling of the Dole Whip, wore gloves and explained how often they sanitize their machine and if they had used it for regular dairy soft serve at all or recently at all. It was so nice for my son to be able to have a treat in this shop along with everyone else!”

@aaps, who manages peanut, tree nut, and milk allergies

Upton’s Breakroom

Location: Chicago, Illinois

“Upton’s Breakroom is a vegan and nut-free restaurant in Chicago. I cannot speak for the food, but the soft serve ice cream is INCREDIBLE! The best I’ve ever had, for sure! The soft serve is made with Temptation (soy-based) and comes out of a dedicated machine. The base is vanilla, but they switch it up with fun flavors like fresh strawberry and pink lemonade, too! They make their chocolate and strawberry house in-house too, and the employees could not be kinder!”

@missmeliss1895, who manages celiac and peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, and shellfish allergies

Vaca’s Creamery

Location: Chicago, Illinois

“The ice cream was a little on the pricey side, but It. Was. So. Good. Oat milk soft serve ice cream? Yes please! They have chocolate, vanilla, swirl, and a seasonal flavor. They serve milkshakes and sundaes and have plenty of toppings to choose from (there were a couple peanut-related toppings so only eat at your comfort level). But guess what?! THEY HAD AN INGREDIENT BOOK with all the toppings, ice cream flavors, and the different types of cones’ ingredients! Will absolutely go again.”

@natalie, who manages peanut and tree nut allergies

@kates, who manages peanut and tree nut allergies

I believe it is Hood soft serve they use as well.”

“We absolutely love this small soft serve ice cream stand in Urbana. The owner is almost always on site. They DO have peanut/nut products. But they automatically flag the order if you mention allergies and staff are trained to change into clean gloves. You can watch the whole process from the ordering window. We order vanilla/choc swirl consistently (always in the same machine). We don’t order toppings but they have offered to open fresh packages if we want anything (they do have Oreos). They also use JOY brand cones. We feel very safe eating here for a sweet treat.”

@jennthoman who manages peanut and tree nut allergies

The staff is so kind and caring with the amount of allergies my siblings and I have. They are very dedicated in making sure we are safe. Their soft serve is delicious as well which makes everything a lot easier and better. We made sure of no cross-contamination with the soft serve and they were very helpful with our order. Would highly recommend!”

“Dairy Twist is a south shore favorite! They have dairy-free sorbet and Italian ice. When I mention my allergies, they always use a clean scoop and if I ask for sprinkles, they’ll use a separate sprinkle container, pour the sprinkles into their own cup and dip my sorbet in that so it feels like much less of a cross-contamination risk. Overall, I’ve never really had an issue here and for everyone who isn’t dairy free – they have TONS of fun flavors. Super easy to get overwhelmed here. The soft serve + sugar cones are nut-free!”

Page Dairy Mart

“We went for the first time today, because they recently started having a top 8 free vanilla oat milk soft serve (all their ice cream is soft serve). Asked if they could make a swirl for our punkin but the girl answered that all the swirl machines are used for everything. We asked if she could have some thin mints in hers. The girl replied that she would go and grab some out of the back for us. We didn’t even have to ask! She then put 7 thin mints in our daughter’s ice cream! Wonderful experience and we will definitely be going back!”

I was talking about my allergy to my fiance while waiting in line and the owner of the ice cream shop overheard me and ensured me that the staff was trained and had clear protocols on how to avoid cross-contamination with everything there. I decided to try the hard serve. The staff immediately changed their gloves. They got a sanitized scoop and a fresh bin of ice cream from the back. They only serve soft they serve is vanilla and chocolate and it comes direct from a dairy farm and she said there is zero cross-contact risk. In the shop they DO have nut toppings. She said they have labels to read for cones. We went twice on vacation and my daughter was thrilled to have a huge, safe and delicious ice cream cone.”

Crèmerie Wild Willy’s Inc

Location: Pointe-Claire, Quebec

“We talked to the owner of this place, and the soft serve ice cream is nut and egg free and the owner assured us that staff are trained in keeping contaminants out of it. Recommended to bring your own toppings like sprinkles, and to not get a cone as they don’t guarantee the cones to be nut free.”

@misterbishop, who manages peanut, tree nut, and egg allergies

Ferme Audet

Location: Saint-François-de-l’Île-d’Orléans, Quebec

“This is a small farm that makes and sells goat milk soaps, cheeses, and soft serve ice cream. The cheese is great but the ice cream was our favorite—a must try. There’s some risk of cc at the factory but that works for us. The flavors are chocolate and vanilla (and swirled) and they had Joy brand cones. There’s also a chocolate dipped option but we skipped that. You can eat the ice cream out back near the goats; very pretty and relaxing vibe.”

Safari is a local business which is aware of our son’s allergy and always makes sure to wash their hands when serving us his soft serve ice cream and it’s a great place to bring kids; they have lots of picnic benches outside where you can eat and people watch. I always bring my own sprinkles to put on his ice cream and he loves it!”

Ice Cream & Juice Station

Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

“I requested a clean scoop and to take the ice cream from the top of the bin, the part that hadn’t been scooped yet. Be careful though, risk of cross contamination is still there! The safest bet would be their soft serve since it’s separated in each machine and they had some fun soft serve flavors other than just the plain vanilla flavor.”

@Simranh01 who manages peanut, tree nut, and sesame allergies

Big Kid Ice Cream

Location: London, England

“They just opened this past Thursday! If your allergic to nuts, don’t get the hard ice cream. There may become a cross contamination risk due to their pistachio flavor. However, the soft serve is homemade and made separately from the hard ice cream scoops. The soft serve flavors are seasonal, I happened to get the Krispy Kreme Glazed Donut flavor. Reminds me of when I could have Krispy Kreme itself before they added their Nutella donut. I recommend Big Kid Ice Cream.”
