Allergy-Friendly Campus Guide: University of Virginia

Hi! I’m Natale and I attend the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. I’m currently a freshman and I’m a computer science major. After graduation, I plan on working as a developer. Fun Fact: I interned at Spokin for two years! I manage peanut, tree nut, strawberry, and chickpea allergies and have shared lots of reviews on the Spokin app. Follow me there @lemon and on Instagram @Natale.Gray

University of Virginia

“I have talked to the University of Virginia’s dining chefs, who have assured me the kitchens don’t use any nuts in one of the dining halls (other than having a jar of peanut butter for people to use almond milk with the drinks). Additionally, there is a Top 8 Free section of the dining hall called Copper Hood. I felt very safe eating at the dining hall and was glad to have allergy-friendly options.”

Seoul Korean BBQ & Hotpot

“The staff assured me that there were no peanuts or tree nuts in the kitchen. There is a peanut sauce in the sauce bar, but it is self-serve and kept separate from the food that was served there.”

Runk Dining Hall – Copper Hood Station

“I have had great experiences eating at Runk! Their website has a calendar where you can see what food is being served on what days and clicking on the foods will give their ingredients. The website also has an option for you to put in your allergens and it will show you what you can have. They also have a top 8 allergen-free station called Copper Hood, where they also serve Sweet Loren’s cookies.”

Observatory Hill Dining Hall – Copper Hood Station

“The website has an option to choose the day and what meal time to show what food is being served at that time and you can click on the food options to see the ingredients. The staff also have been really helpful and have let me know what options are safe for me to eat. They also have a top 8 allergen-free station called Copper Hood.”

Chipotle

“Chipotle is safe for my allergens, and I have never had a problem eating there. It is also really close to Central Grounds!”
