Bethesda Bagels
Well, smear my bagel, baby! I LOVE Bethesda Bagels. Excellently made bagels, gorgeous bakery items like rugelach, black and white cookies, and coffee cake on occasion—the bagel deli not only excels at having an expansive menu, but also by having such fabulous items across the board. I’ve had an egg bagel with nova, cream cheese, tomato, and onion on multiple occasions, but I’ve also tested the pumpernickel bagel (DELICIOUS) and some of their creative and fun cream cheese flavors, such as carmelized onion and sun-dried tomato! My friends and I go practically every weekend, this place is so good. Would highly highly recommend. I also asked about nuts for the black and white cookies and the man at the register was helpful and knew what ingredients were in the cookies.
Tatte
While a little bit on the pricey side, these cafe/coffee shops absolutely have my heart (and my eyes and my stomach!). They have great coffee, beautiful pastries, and scrumptious food! Some of my favorites are the pesto flatbread and the fig, brie, and prosciutto sandwich. They do have some nuts, particularly in the pastries, but they are knowledgable about what’s in what and have double-checked for me at multiple locations.
Steak n Egg Diner
A good cute diner spot for breakfasts of carbs and eggs and sausage and toast! I’ve been quite a few times with friends and absolutely loved their pancakes. They’ve been wonderfully helpful and understanding with my allergy, and the spot offers the perfect breakfast-diner atmosphere I love.
Call Your Mother
I love Call Your Mother! Great bagels, lovely sandwich combos, and a perfect selection of drinks. It’s a wonderful breakfast, lunch, or afternoon snack spot! I got the Royal Palm on a plain bagel last time I went and it was delicious!
CAVA
I love CAVA! I usually make my own rice bowl or even get a kid’s meal. Their pita chips are fantastic, too. There aren’t haven’t been any nuts since I’ve gone but, of course, I check every time, just in case! They have a great selection of drinks, too. Highly recommend!
Chaia Georgetown
I‘ve really enjoyed Chaia! This spot is cute too, off to the side of the busy streets of Georgetown! I ordered the Scrambled Egg & Black Bean and the Creamy Kale & Potato Tacos, as well as their signature cookie! Both tacos were absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to go back.
Wagshal’s
A friend of mine introduced me to Wagshal’s the other day and I have been DREAMING of the sandwiches to chose from the next time I go. Last time I went I got a pulled pork sandwich, fries, and a chocolate cupcake. Everything was so good, they did not use any nut oils, and the man who took my order had a nut allergy too, so he was super kind and helpful! Also, all AU students get 15% off anything in the store (excluding alcohol) after 5 PM!
