Van Leeuwen Ice Cream

“Really delicious ice cream! They keep all the dairy-free options in a separate area. The server wasn’t quite sure about which ones had nuts (some are made with cashew milk), but luckily, there were allergy menu QR codes posted, and I found all the ingredients online. The churro and fudge were so good!”

Pitango Gelato

“I got lemon and (strawberry or raspberry? Can’t remember which) and it seemed like they were pretty good at making sure there wasn’t cross-contamination with the nut flavors.”

“Love that they have a whole set of dairy-free gelatos and sorbets kept in a separate window from the others! I also appreciate that they posted that all their dairy-free options are made with oat milk.”

“I asked for a clean scoop, and the associate offered to use a new carton as well! The store was also very clean, and most importantly, the vegan ice cream was delicious. 10/10.”

“My daughter asked for a clean scooper, which seemed like no problem, and she safely had cappuccino crunch and mint chip in a waffle cone. That said, I notice a lot of flavors with nuts and cones with nuts, and while she managed, I wouldn’t run to go there, but it was right around the corner from our dinner. She was fine, it was safe for her, and she said it was good! P.S. There was a Häagen-Dazs like 50 feet away on M Street where I would have felt more comfortable instead! ”

“Almost every time I’ve been here, the person serving me has not only gotten a clean scoop but also used a new tub of ice cream! Nowhere else have I had someone do that for me, and it was really nice to see that they were taking steps to ensure my safety. In addition to that, they had a menu that said if any of their ice creams actually contained nuts. Their ice cream is also very tasty, with several unique flavors! Around the holidays, I had cranberry sorbet, which was very refreshing and delicious! I’ve also tried their blueberry pie flavor, which has little bits of pie crust in it! All in all I feel very confident eating here.”

“Great experience at this new location. The staff member took care to follow the protocol and told us they refer to orders with allergy concerns as an “allergy scoop.” I’ll remember that next time!”
