William & Mary Allergy-Friendly College Campus Guide

Hi! I’m Caroline and I attend William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. I’m currently a junior and I’m an English and Philosophy Double major. After graduation, I plan on attending law school. I have peanut, tree nut, wheat, and legume allergies and have shared 8 reviews on the Spokin app. Follow me there @caroline27 and on Instagram @caroline.berman.

William & Mary

“I am a current William & Mary Junior, and I absolutely love the dining hall’s safe options! They have a concierge service for rare/specific allergens that need to be accommodated, where a student can text the hotline and be served food prepped separately based on their individual needs! For gluten-free folks, there also are options off campus that are safe, such as grilled items at Chick-fil-A, and other local restaurants like Aromas! Overall, W&M is a very accommodating environment, and I couldn’t recommend it more as someone with life-threatening allergies!”

Aromas Coffeehouse Bakery & Cafe

Aromas Coffeehouse Bakery & Cafe

“Aromas has a wide variety of gluten-free pastries and treats! While some tree nuts may be present, they keep all of their ingredient lists on hand, which you will be able to view upon request. Their staff is very helpful and informative, and I have consistently been able to eat there safely!”

Baskin-Robbins

“Baskin Robbins staff is so helpful! I have requested a fresh bin from the back before, and they keep all of their nut flavors in a separate case with separate scoops. Very safe options for those with nut allergies!”

Cook's Burger Bar

Cook’s Burger Bar

“Cooks Burger Bar provides a gluten-free bun option for those with gluten insensitivities! The bun I believe was an Udi’s bun, and the staff was very helpful and informed. I called ahead and they were willing to hold a special bun for me, and when I arrived all of the staff knew who I was. It is clear that they communicated allergen info well, and were proactive.”

Meadows Original Frozen Custard

“While they do have some flavors and toppings with nuts, Meadows is very accommodating! Simply request for them to sanitize, and they are happy to do so- the staff is so sweet and understanding! And the custard is delicious.”

Oishii Japanese Ramen & Hibachi Grill

Oishii Japanese Ramen & Hibachi Grill

“Oishii has gluten-free soy sauce they can use to make safe hibachi! While this item is not safe for those with celiac disease as they use the same grill for all of the meals, they are able to accommodate Gluten sensitivity.”

Sal's By Victor

“Sal’s has a variety of gluten-free options available! From pasta dishes to gluten-free pizza, they provide safe options upon request. And they’re delicious of course!”

Wawa

Wawa

“Wawa has clear labeling for allergens, and for the drink menu you can request that they wipe down or clean their blenders and prepping tools.”
