Fairfield University
“Fairfield University has been amazing in providing support and services for me to manage my celiac safely. The True Balance Station in The Tully Dining Hall is free of the top 9 allergens and everything is cooked separately from the main food served. They use all different utensils to ensure 100% safety for all students with allergies. The food at True Balance is very good, and I leave the dining hall feeling satisfied with each meal. There are two options for each meal, but the staff is always happy to make chicken nuggets and fries for any gluten-free student that does not like the meals that are being served. Additionally, since I am celiac, I have access to the Peace of Mind gluten-free pantry. It is a locked pantry and only students with celiac and gluten allergies/intolerance are given access with their student ID card to a dedicated gluten-free toaster, microwave, and pizza oven. There is also access to frozen meals that you can make yourself if you don’t like anything that is offered for breakfast, lunch, or dinner at True Balance. They also have gluten-free snacks and desserts available in the pantry. There is also an açaí café in the library that is all gluten-free, even with gluten-free granola! It is a nice treat and light lunch to have on the go. Additionally, there is a Peet’s Coffee at the same location as the açaí café in the library that I get my daily coffee at, that also does not use any gluten-containing ingredients.”

bartaco
“bartaco, in Westport, is one of my go-to restaurants. The majority of their menu is naturally gluten-free, to the point where it’s easier for them to just mark dishes that contain gluten because there are so few items that contain gluten! The staff is very knowledgeable about celiac, and they take all necessary precautions for you to eat safely. My favorite menu items are the street corn, guacamole, and any of the pork tacos.”

Catch A Healthy Habit Cafe
“Catch A Healthy Habit is dedicated gluten-free and vegan. This has been a go-to spot for me since freshman year, and it is very nice considering I can go in and order anything without worrying about cross contamination. I love their açaí bowls, salads, smoothies, and desserts. It is nut-based, so if you have a nut allergy I would not recommend this location.”

Colony Grill
“Colony Grill makes safe gluten-free pizza. If you inform them of your celiac and ask for a clean cut, they will take all of the allergy precautions necessary to have pizza safely. Less than a mile away from campus, Colony Grill is a staple on Fairfield’s campus. It is New Haven-style thin crust pizza that is absolutely delicious. I usually just get a cheese pizza, but they have many different combos that you can try!”

Emmy Squared Pizza
“Emmy Squared Pizza is one of my favorite restaurants in the Fairfield area. Emmy Squared Pizza has Detroit-style thick crust pizza, and it is probably the best gluten-free crust that I’ve ever had. The staff is very knowledgeable about celiac, and you can get any pizza on gluten-free crust. They don’t have a dedicated fryer, so I would not order the French fries. My favorite pizza is the vodka sauce pizza.”

T-Swirl Crepe
“T-Swirl is my go-to place for dessert as they use rice flour to make their crepes. If you tell them you are gluten-free, they will wipe down the surfaces they use to make your crepe. There are some add-ins to some crepes that contain gluten, however it is clearly marked what crepes are gluten-free on their menu and they take all necessary precautions to make your crepe safely.”
