Chaiwala
Location: Central, Hong Kong Island
“Truly could not have asked for a better experience. From head chef Chandra to hostess Anjali, manager Sachin, and our waiter Marty, everyone was incredibly allergy aware and so kind. This was probably the only restaurant I’ve been to that has quintuple-checked my allergies, despite not having any nuts besides cashews in their kitchen. Huge props for thoroughness! We went twice and majorly enjoyed their beautifully spiced, mouth-watering Goan fish curry and aromatic biryanis. The pani puris had a wonderful tang from the jal jeera, and their shareable tandoori platter had the most amazing salmon. My family also thoroughly enjoyed their chicken, mutton, and garlic naan… and, to round it all off, gorgeous masala chai.”

Lucky Star Coffee Shop
Location: Causeway Bay, Hong Kong Island
“Anaphylactic to all nuts at the time of this review: my favorite Hong Kong cafe/bakery of all time – Lucky Star Coffee Shop has the best milk tea and pineapple buns- not too dense, perfectly soft and buttery, contrasted by a not-too-thick concha – a must. Update: have not yet been back for the buns but called in advance, and they do now use peanuts in other dishes.”

Tora Tetsu Teppan Yaki
Location: Causeway Bay, Hong Kong Island
“Definitely more of a special occasions type place, Tora Tetsu is mostly nut-free with the exception of one salad dressing. No nuts or nut oils are used on the hot plate. They were incredibly allergen-aware and attentive, making sure I had a separate salad (part of the set meal) and could eat the dessert as well.”

Australia Dairy Company
Location: Jordan, Kowloon
“To update post visit: a classic, well known Hong Kong cha chaan tang. I called in advance and confirmed they do not have peanuts or peanut oil. To be super safe though I’d try to go during off hours since this place gets so crowded with both locals and tourists.”

Biergarten German Bar & Restaurant
Location: Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon
“Completely walnut and peanut-free, Biergarten is a great spot for German and Austrian classics. We shared Weißwurst, a very fresh pretzel, sauerkraut, and their gyros. Tip: if you go earlier in the day they have some pretty decent breakfast/lunch deals.”

FRITES Belgium on Tap
Location: Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon
“They confirmed via email that they do not use nuts/nut oils but noted that they sometimes have seasonal dishes with nuts. Similarly to Chaiwala, they just asked that those with allergies make reservations to ensure that they are fully aware and prepared. Really lively family style restaurant, great for bigger groups—safely shared moules frites (signature cream), seafood linguine, cheese pizza, and pork knuckle. The moules frites were really delicious, and 1kg was great for 7-8 people.”

The Lobby Lounge at Regent Hong Kong
Location: Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon
“After a bit of allergy anxiety about changed menus/protocols at various local eateries, I decided to pop into the Regent hotel (twice) to see if they might be able to accommodate. Located right off the avenue of stars by the cultural center and space museum, the lounge provides both western and Hong Kong classics. While pricey, they were incredibly allergen-aware – had really great pho and a lobster roll.”

Yeung Woo Tong
Location: Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon
“Completely nut-free and super healthy! As we brace for yet another heatwave, Yeung Woo Tong provided a great respite, complete with nice seats, aircon, and cooling herbal jelly. At the time, if you buy 3 jellies, you also get 3 drinks for free. Really great deal!”

Crystal Lotus
Location: Lantau Island, Lantau Island
“Anaphylactic to all nuts at the time of this review: Located just outside Hong Kong Disneyland, the Crystal Lotus was very allergen-aware and had a really adorable take on dim sum classics, with baos in the shape of aliens, Olaf, and of course Mickey & Minnie along with taro paste and mango pudding shaped like Mickey. Albeit gimmicky, the food was decent and we definitely had a great time, especially the kids.”

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort
Location: Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Lantau Island
“I visited Hong Kong Disneyland. Dairy isn’t a common ingredient in a lot of Hong Kong and Chinese dishes which made things easy, but I appreciated the helpful menus in all the restaurants. They would have actual displays of each meal in glass cases. Even with a language barrier, it made it easy to eat safely.”
