Eats

1. Side Street Cafe
“When I visited, there were not nuts on the menu! They are amazing with allergies and have options for gluten-free sandwiches, lobster rolls, appetizers, and even mac & cheese! They also had a gluten-free dessert, but we were so full! Everything came with allergy sticks which was great! I LOVED the gluten-free lobster mac & cheese! I also had a gluten free lobster roll (good byt not my favorite) and loved their dips + chips. They also have a dedicated fryer for fries. Highly recommend for nut & gluten allergies in Maine!”

2. Geddy’s
“I am a middle schooler with allergies and the food here was great! Everything was gluten/wheat-free except three items on the menu. They also only had walnuts in the salad area. I had the gluten/wheat-free clam chowder, fish and chips, and steamed clams. Will recommend!”

3. Jeannie’s Great Maine Breakfast
“They have a few vegan items on the menu that my son could have like pancakes and a tofu scramble. The staff were knowledgeable. They are a very busy place which made me a little nervous but everything came out without issue. Their outdoor seating area is dog friendly if you need that.”

5. Mainely Meat BBQ on Dreamwood Hill
“It’s not the best but all the meats were safe for our allergens. My son wasn’t able to have any sides with the meat so it made for a boring meal.”
@alohabailey, who manages peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, fish, and sesame allergies

6. The Loft Raw Bar and Seafood Lounge
“The waitress was very helpful in guiding us through the menu. One note, they use a fryer at Testa’s next door so the waitress had to check with them about cross contamination in the fryer. I had the hamachi crudo and ahi tuna poke bowl salad.”

7. Rosalie’s Pizza
“Rosalie’s has the best gluten-free pizza I’ve ever had! It is also safe for nut allergies. The staff were very understanding of my allergies and willing to make sure it was safe!”

9. Seafood Ketch
“We always loved their seafood and bread. We were delighted to find out that our milk-allergic son could eat the fried seafood and the bread that they bring out before your dinner, as they don’t use milk in either! The servers are always very helpful.”

11. Bar Harbor Lobster Pound
“Cashier was a bit dismissive but there were no nuts on the menu and I just confirmed the oil they used was canola — DELICIOUS lobster roll.”

12. Cafe This Way
“An amazing breakfast experience. Was able to safely enjoy eggs, bacon, and blueberries pancakes without an issue. It was so good we ate here TWICE. Very minimal nuts in the kitchen!”

13. Eat-A-Pita & Cafe 2
“The owners Margaret (manager) and Clinton (chef) are so caring and accommodating. This is a very busy spot so make reservations early! Speak with Margaret and explain your allergy needs and she will work with Clinton to ensure you are accommodated AND impressed. Our allergy kiddo tasted lobster for the first time here when Clinton ensured there was little chance of butter cross contamination.”

2. CJ’s Big Dipper
“Two Soft serve dairy-free options (almond milk based) from a dedicated dairy-free machine. Lots of dairy-free sorbets, but they were lots with nuts and they do not get any from a new container.”
@3withallergies, who manages peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, soy, fish, sesame, and beef allergies

3. Jordan Pond
“All Jordan Pond ice cream is homemade! When I visited, they had one dairy-free option (lime sorbet) and I noticed they had walnuts and peanuts. I asked about my allergies and the manager came to talk to me. She was very kind and thorough & said they didn’t have pistachios or cashews but couldn’t confirm that some of their add ins (ex. Heath bits or Oreos) weren’t cross contaminated. Amazing ice cream and very understanding staff! They also list all ingredients of their ice cream.”
@theallergyduck, who manages celiac and tree nut allergies

6. Mount Desert Island Ice Cream
“The items are labeled for allergens. Experience varied on location. In Bar Harbor, immediately changed gloves and scoop and got a fresh tub from back. Had to advocate for myself a bit more at the Portland one but manager took care of it.”
