Portland Allergy-Friendly Travel Itinerary

mthood

Hi friends! I’m Katelyn, a 26 year old from Arizona with Celiac disease. I recently spent the weekend in Portland with my husband and we drove to tons of dedicated gluten free bakeries and restaurants! Portland is the most Celiac-friendly city in the United States with over 20+ dedicated gluten free spots! I reviewed all my recommendations on the Spokin app @eatglutenfreeaz and you can also follow along with my gluten free adventures on Instagram @eatglutenfreeaz.

DAY 1

Breakfast: Bigwig Donuts

100% gluten free and vegan donut shop. 6 flavors of donut holes at a time, as well as a full coffee bar.

Drinks: Bierly Brewing

100% gluten free brewery located in McMinnville, about 45 minutes from Portland. Tons of beer on tap, food options, and fried donuts on the weekend! Corn dogs, soft pretzels, and donuts are also dairy free.

Dinner: Xicha Brewing

Not 100% gluten free, but a great option in Salem. Spoke with the manager, and she was super knowledgeable about the menu and Celiac disease. A lot of options are labeled gluten free on the menu but they don’t have a dedicated fryer so avoid anything that would be fried. I ordered the crispy pork belly tacos and they were able to pan fry the port to avoid cross contamination. None of the beer is gluten free but they have margaritas and cider.

DAY 2

Lunch: New Cascadia Traditional

100% gluten free bakery and BEST pizza crust of my life! The pizza crust is gluten free and vegan, with the option to add vegan cheese. They also have several baked goods. Some are available dairy free/vegan. We tried the pizza, cinnamon roll, maple bar, and strawberry vegan donut.

Drinks: Ground Breaker Brewing

The first 100% gluten free brewery! The most popular beer is the IPA No. 5, but they have tons of other beers on tap. All of the beers are vegan too! The kitchen is no longer open, but they do serve slices of pizza from New Cascadia and plan to have gluten free food trucks in August.

Drinks: Mutantis Brewing

100% gluten free brewery and bottle shop located in Portland. Owned by the former head brewer of Ghostfish in Seattle. Tons of unique gluten free beers on tap, as well as bottles/cans from the other local 100% gluten-free breweries such as Evasion, Bierly, Moonshrimp, and Ground Breaker.

Dinner: Tacovore

A dedicated gluten free taco spot in Portland. Tons of tacos, salads, and bowl options. My favorite was the carne asada taco! Most tacos can be made dairy free with the cashew crema.

DAY 3

Lunch: Honey Butter Country Fare

100% gluten free food truck with tons of dairy free and vegan options. One of the BEST places I have ever eaten. Gluten free + vegan fried funnel cakes, gluten free corn dogs with a vegan meat option, frito pies, and frozen dipped bananas.

Treat: Petunia’s Pies and Pastries

100% gluten free and vegan bakery! Tons of gluten free baked goods as well as savory items. They only have donuts on the weekends and they sell out fast! Make sure to get there early if you want to try them. We tried the Cookie Monster Babycake, Birthday Cake Blondie, and Woah-reo Sandwich Cookie.

Dinner: Schilling Cider House

Over 50+ taps and a dedicated gluten free kitchen. Corn dogs, wings, tots, cider, and cider slushies!
