Peanut, Tree Nut, Soy + Corn-Free Bologna Top Picks

Hi! I’m Parker and I recently studied abroad in Bologna, Italy! I was able to find many spots to safely eat with my peanut, tree nut, soy and corn allergies. I am excited to share my favorite finds and one of my absolute favorites was La Capriata, where I safely had Bolognese tagliatelle! If you visit, make sure you check out the Madonna di San Luca (the church on the hill)! Follow me on the Spokin app @parkersparkss to see all of my allergy-friendly reviews!

Berberè Porta Saragozza

“They were INCREDIBLE! I walked in and asked about allergens, and immediately our waiter brought out the allergen guide (which they had in both English and Italian). He helped to make reservations about what would be the safest, and he even sent a note to the kitchen to take extra care when creating my pizza. One of the best pizza spots in Bologna.”

Cremeria la Vecchia Stalla

“I had a great experience here. They have a separate scoop for each flavor of gelato, and when they were unsure of whether a flavor had soy, the staff called the manager to check for me. They went out of their way to make sure that it was safe, and I enjoyed my experience.”

Gelateria Delle Moline

“The staff was extremely educated and they knew exactly what was in each product. They have a separate scoop for each flavor which limits the possibility for cross-contamination, and there are limited nuts.”

Il Veliero Ristorante Pizzeria

“I had a positive experience with Il Veliero Ristorante Pizzeria. They have a large menu and lots of pizza options. When indicating my allergens they took care to explain that soy is not in any of the pizzas, and they made sure that my selection did not contain nuts. While they did have a more limited understanding of English, I still felt confident that they understood my allergens and ate here safely.”

La Capriata

“La Capriata does an INCREDIBLE job with food allergies! One of the first things that they asked us after walking in the door is if we were gluten-free, as they have a separate menu with a number of options. They also label the top 9 allergens in the menu, and the staff is well informed. The Bolognese Pasta was incredible, I would highly recommend!”

Le Moline – Osteria Bistrot

“Le Moline is set up to accommodate a wide variety of allergies. The menu notates which items are dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegetarian, and when asked our waiter was happy to confirm this. Concerning my other allergies, he took these very seriously and made sure to check that every item was safe. Our waiter even had a soy allergy, and this made me feel even safer! They had decent knowledge of English, and I would definitely feel comfortable coming back here.”

Pizzeria Mimì

“Pizzeria Mimi provides a great experience! They primarily serve pizza, but have other salad, pasta, and meat options. They have pizzas without dairy options and have celiac-safe, gluten-free options. The gluten-free pizza has a dedicated prep area and is cooked in a separate tin with dedicated utensils so that there is no cross-contamination.”

The Social Hub Coworking Bologna

“The Social Hub has a restaurant and this is a great place to eat safely. The waitstaff speaks English, and the menu notes the top 8 allergens as well as mustard, sesame, sulfur dioxide, and lupins. They have daily specials and I was able to ask the kitchen staff to check the ingredients. The breakfast buffet is a little more difficult because it is a self serve, but the staff was willing to get new serving dishes and will check the ingredients of all products.”

Trattoria Bolognese

“My friends and I had a great experience at Trattoria Bolognese. Some of the staff spoke English and they were able to confirm that the menu items were safe. I also have a friend with a dairy allergy who came and there were plenty of safe options for her. This restaurant definitely has a more authentic feel and I would highly recommend.”
