“Jagger has a detailed allergen menu and ingredients list on their website! They have gluten-free buns. They do not use any nuts. Many locations around Copenhagen!”

Landbageriet
Location: København, Denmark
“Bakery with gluten-free and vegan options. No peanuts or hazelnuts used in bakery, the only nut used is almonds (and possibly walnuts). They had all ingredients posted on the display so you can see exactly what is in each item! Gluten-free items are separate from items containing wheat, but I believe they are baked in the same bakery.”

Max Hamburger
Location: København, Denmark
“Fast food restaurant for burgers. Their website has a feature to figure out what menu items you can eat based on your allergies. They do have gluten-free buns and a lettuce wrap option (salatburger).”

PALÆO Illum Rooftop – Restaurant & Take Away
Location: København, Denmark
“Palæos are my favorite place to grab a quick, healthy bite to eat while traveling in Copenhagen! Their entire kitchen & menu is gluten and lactose-free. This location is in the top floor of the Illums department store next to an outdoor rooftop seating area. As always, the staff were super helpful in answering my ingredient questions. Menu is peanut and hazelnut-free, but would not recommend for someone with other tree nut allergies (especially almond)!”

Palæo Torvehallerne
Location: København, Denmark
“Completely gluten-free and lactose-free restaurant (except for I think they have dairy in one of their add-on dressings). They make their wraps with egg instead! Safe for peanut/hazelnut allergy but they do have almonds and coconut.”

REMA 1000
Location: København, Denmark
“Rema is my favorite place for basic groceries in Copenhagen because it is always clean, well stocked, and has lower prices. They don’t carry many free-from products, but they do have a few fun products that work for my allergies, such as chocolate covered rice cakes without nut cross-contamination (ris kager Med mörk chokolade)!”

Restaurant ORANJE
Location: København, Denmark
“Unique dining experience eating at ORANJE, a restaurant on a boat docked in Nyhavn! We went for lunch, and their lunch options included smørrebrød and seafood. They do have mixed nuts as a starter, but I felt comfortable since not used in the kitchen. Gluten-free sourdough seed bread available for the smørrebrød!”

“Great gluten-free pizzas. Nuts are limited, but they do have lupin beans in one of their appetizers. They have a spreadsheet with allergens that they are happy to show you if requested.”

Selva
Location: København, Denmark
“Cool Brazilian tapioca cafe in Nørrebro neighborhood! All of their tapiocas are gluten-free and come with a side salad. The salads are already prepared and the host walked me through which ones would be safe for me to eat! There was a bit of a language barrier in English, so would recommend bringing a Danish (or Portuguese) allergy translation card. Overall, I really appreciated how attentive they were to my questions and allergies, and had a delicious meal! Menu is labeled with gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian, would not recommend for dairy allergy as it is a small kitchen.”

Tivoli Gardens
Location: København, Denmark
“There are a variety of food options in Tivoli, some restaurants use nuts, but many others do not. We were able to find delicious safe food for our allergies at the German beer garden. Tivoli also has shops with nut-free glögg, chocolate covered marshmallows, and licorice.”

Tommi’s Burger Joint Kødbyen

“Bilka is a huge store with products of every type, like Walmart or Target. They do a have a free-from section (as well as an American foods section where you can buy a $5 Hershey’s bar). Great place to buy Semper bread, Semper grovknacke, Wasa crispbread. They also carry gluten-free oats in the cereal section.”

Helsemin A/S
Location: København, Denmark
“Small chain of health food and supplement stores with a few options for those with various dietary restrictions.”

Meny
Location: København, Denmark
“MENY is one of the best places to find free-from foods in Copenhagen because they have an allergy-friendly section that has brands not found at other grocery stores. Unfortunately, they do not have any locations in the Indre By area, so it can be a trek to get to a location. They do have an allergen-free section, and they carry some American products (cheerios, frosties, Rice Krispies). In the frozen food section, look out for Tilde’s, a gluten free, nut-free brand that makes excellent cinnamon rolls!”
NORWAY

Casa Nostra Pizzeria
Location: Gol, Norway
“A simple pizza menu and peanut free kitchen made Casa Nostra an easy choice for safe food when in Gol. Menu is labeled with allergens and gluten-free crust is available.”

Coffee National Museum Oslo
Location: Oslo, Norway
“In 2022, the National Museum in Oslo opened a brand new building next to the water, and with it, a new cafe! The Nasjonalmuseet Kafe is open to the public. The staple of the cafe is the wide array of “snitter” (or Norwegian open-faced sandwiches). The staff answered all of our allergy questions and given the answers I felt comfortable dining even with some nuts in the kitchen. It is clear that they take allergies seriously! They also have gluten-free bread, so almost all snitter can be made gluten-free, and we tried the gluten-free waffles as well. Everything on the menu looked so good we wanted to come back! Highly recommend for a Norwegian dining experience.”

Der Peppern Gror Rådhusplassen
Location: Oslo, Norway
“This Indian restaurant did not disappoint, and is also rated #2 on Trip Advisor for Oslo! Definitely recommend a reservation. Menus with allergen labels, no peanuts in kitchen, only cashews and pistachios. We enjoyed the Missi Roti (chickpea flour), grilled Chicken Tikka, Palak Paneer, Daal Makhni, and Kulia Chaat. It was super easy to order with the clear labeling and we loved the food!”

Location: Gol, Norway
“Allergy-free section with lots of the options you would expect and some surprises (nut-free Plamil chocolate spread)”

Haralds Vaffel
Location: Oslo, Norway
“OMG this is a must stop in Oslo if safe for your allergies! Haralds is a small dessert shop in the colorful Grünerløkka neighborhood known for its traditional Norwegian waffles! They have three batter options— regular, gluten-free, and vegan, all made on different waffle irons. The vegan batter does contain almonds. The shop does use hazelnut chocolate spread as a topping but I felt comfortable with low cross-contact risk as it was in a squeeze bottle. The staff were super happy to answer my ingredient questions, and they already are thoughtful to prevent contamination between the batter types (but I bet would take additional precautions with toppings if asked). Would also recommend going earlier in the day when it’s less busy! The waffle to get is the traditional brunost (brown cheese), sour cream, strawberry jam combo.”

HIMKOK Storgata Destilleri
Location: Oslo, Norway
“Hidden cocktail bar and distillery (gin, aquavit, vodka) in downtown Oslo. A full cocktail experience, the bartenders answer any questions you have about the drinks and are happy to talk about allergies. The menu is clearly marked with ingredients and allergens.”

Røtter Grünerløkka
Location: Oslo, Norway
“Friendly staff, great selection, and cute neighborhood is a bonus! Lots of natural foods including some gluten-free and dairy-free items.”

Thon Hotel Spectrum
Location: Oslo, Norway
“Thon Hotels are my preferred place to stay when traveling in Norway and the Spectrum is no different! Thon breakfasts come with an amazing spread of labeled Norwegian dishes, fish, cheese, and baked goods. I was especially impressed at this Thon how the allergy-free section on the breakfast (pictured) was physically separate from the rest of the food with its own plates as to not be contaminated by food elsewhere. The kitchen staff are extremely helpful and can make you anything to avoid buffet cross contact as well. Highly recommend staying at a Thon if you can, I have only had amazing experiences!”

Vygruppen AS
Location: Oslo, Norway
“I wanted to review Vy, the national train line of Norway, because I ate safely in their cafe cars throughout my Norway trip! On the Oslo-Bergen train line, the cafe menu was clearly labeled with top 14 allergens. While one of their hot meal options contained peanuts, I felt comfortable eating other menu items as it was all prepackaged, and then just warmed in the cafe kitchen oven. Definitely was not expecting to be able to eat from the cafe car, so this was a fun surprise!”
SWEDEN

Brunchoteket
Location: Inom Vallgraven, Sweden
“American-inspired all-day brunch with two locations in Gothenburg. Their menu is detailed with gluten-free and vegan options. No peanuts on menu, but they do use pistachio crumbles and Nutella. I was comfortable eating there given their allergy awareness. I had the gluten-free pancakes which were so delicious and fluffy!”

Espresso House
Location: Lund, Sweden
“Espresso House is the most common coffee chain throughout Sweden. Their website has ingredient information for their entire menu, but it is only available in Swedish! Alt milk options include soy, coconut, and oat. I loved their matcha latte, but the matcha powder they use contains coconut milk!”

Hotel Bishops Arms
Location: Kristianstad, Sweden
“We stopped here for dinner while waiting for the train in Kristianstad. The menu was nicely labeled for gluten and lactose-free options and when I ate there, there were no nuts on the menu. They also had multiple gluten-free beer options, and I had the light Mikkeller, which was delicious! Staff were super nice and happy to answer questions.”

Lasse Majas Krog
Location: Marstrand, Sweden
“Had an amazing lunch at Lasse Majas krog on Marstrand Island (only accessed by pedestrian ferry!) While the menu isn’t labeled with allergens, they note to talk to your server, and I found our server happy to answer all ingredient questions! They have a great gluten-free pizza crust; my friend and I split a Chevre gluten-free pizza and we couldn’t stop talking about it for the rest of the trip, it was that good!”

Malmo Chocolate Factory AB
Location: Rådmansvången, Sweden
“Not a restaurant, but a completely nut-free chocolate factory!!! Their chocolates are also free of gluten and soy. I would highly recommend it to anyone with nut allergies that wants to buy fun flavors of chocolate!”

Morgon Coffee Roasters
Location: Lundbyvassen, Sweden
“Small-scale coffee roaster across the Göta älv, got a tip to go here from a local, well worth the (free) 5 minute passenger ferry ride! They only serve coffee and I believe they only have dairy milk and oat milk. Staff were super friendly, happy to answer questions too.”

Ottos Kök
Location: Marstrand, Sweden
“I had a great dining experience at Ottos, located in the Marstrands Havshotell. Attentive and thoughtful service. Most of their menu is seafood, with limited nuts. They also asked for any allergies when taking the order and answered all of my questions thoroughly and checked with the chef. The restaurant makes their own gluten-free bread from a mix, and the server was happy to show me the ingredients.”

Wärdshuset Tullen
Location: Lorensberg, Sweden
“Ölstugan (beer hall) in downtown Gothenburg. No nuts on menu when I visited, I got the chickpea burger and definitely try the herring! The Swedish meatballs here are not gluten-free. They do not have gluten-free beer but do have Briska cider.”

Fram Ekolivs, kooperativ handel
Location: Gothenburg, Sweden
“Cooperative natural food store in Gothenburg. Some dairy-free cheese and gluten-free flour options, but did not have Schar or Semper. Was excited to see Malmo Chokladfabrik bars (Swedish nut free chocolate company) on their shelves! **Would not recommend if you have airborne nut allergies as store has open bins of nuts.**”
