DAY 1
Hotel: Nobu Hotel Barcelona
“We chose to stay at the Nobu Hotel because we are familiar with the quality of service they they offer—and we were not disappointed! We were welcomed at check-in by a friendly staff with warm hand towels and glasses of lemon tea. We even got a complimentary upgrade to a corner room with a view! Our room was spotless and was cleaned daily by housekeeping. It is so important for us to have a safe, relaxing, and clean ‘home base’ when we travel, and Nobu offered us just that!”
Dinner: La Vinateria del Call
“Our first meal in Barcelona was walk at this cute little tapas spot. We immediately got acquainted with the city and its love for meats, wines, and cheeses! Our waiter assured us there were no peanuts on the menu. We even got chocolate mousse for dessert!”
Dessert: Granja M Viader
“We stopped in for dessert with our eyes on the churros, and I was absolutely stunned by their extensive allergy menu! Each menu item was individually labeled for top allergens. So good we tried to go back the next night, but couldn’t get a table. Seemed like a local favorite!”
Sightseeing: Cathedral of Barcelona
“Just down the street from La Vinateria de Call is the Cathedral of Barcelona. Right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, the ornate architecture and winding cobblestone streets were so lovely to explore before dinner!”
Sightseeing: Picasso Museum
“Such a comprehensive collection of Picasso’s work! No food or drinks are allowed in the museum, but I was able to keep my pre-packaged snacks tucked away in my crossbody bag without issue.”
DAY 2
Lunch: 365 Obrador
“This is a little chain bakery/coffee shop in Barcelona, similar to like a Pret-a-Manager. They have multiple locations across the city! We were feeling a little discouraged because a previous place turned us away because of allergies, so finding 365 was a saving grace. They had a QR code for their allergy menu posted right by the cashier which we scanned before ordering. I safely enjoyed a baguette sandwich with jamón, cheese, and tomato! They didn’t have anything with actual peanuts, just ‘may contain’ which we avoided.”
Dinner: Darvaza
“Wow! Checking in at the hostess stand, they already had my allergy indicated and knew to bring allergy menus to our table. Each menu item was labeled with individual allergens. We enjoyed the sobrassada crunchy bread, ribeye croquettes, angus rib rice, and the grilled ear of corn. Everything was absolutely delicious!”
Sightseeing: La Sagrada Familia
“The pride and joy of Barcelona! We opted for the 45-minute audio tour of the Basilica. There is heavy security to enter the building, but I had no difficulty getting my auto-injectors and pre-packed snacks inside.”
Sightseeing: Park Güell
“Excuse me while I cue up The Cheetah Girls soundtrack… The gardens of Park Güell offer such gorgeous views of the city/water!”
Sightseeing: Casa Batlló
“Amazing architecture inside and out at Casa Batlló! We did the Winter’s Night audio tour before dinner down the street at Darvaza.”
DAY 3
Lunch: Oller de Mas
“The restaurant staff was very accommodating of my allergies and of the dietary restrictions of others in our tour group. I safely ate the vegetable soup and the roasted chicken with potato purée and asparagus. I was brought orange slices for dessert because the cake had hazelnuts (which are safe for me, but I appreciated the caution). I think I peaked in life here!”
Drinks: Nobu Restaurant
“After a long day of tour buses and history lessons, we settled in on the Nobu Rooftop to enjoy the city views at night.”
Sightseeing: Castleexperince Wine Tour + Oller de Mas
“Oller del Mas was our vineyard stop on the Castlexperience Wine Tour!”
Sightseeing: Castleexperince Wine Tour
“Wow! This was an amazing day, and one of my favorite parts of our trip! We took the 9-hour full day tour which included transportation to and from Monserrat, wine tasting at Oller de Mas, and lunch at the vineyard. We were asked twice about food allergies before stepping foot on the bus. At lunch, my allergies were triple checked by our tour guide and the restaurant staff.”
Sightseeing: Monserrat
“These photos speak for themselves… Monserrat is otherworldly! Hiking out to St. Michael’s Cross for this view was well worth the steep inclines. There are a few small cafes around Monserrat offering both pre-packed snacks and hot lunches, but being relatively far from of the city, I opted to stick with the safe granola bars I brought with me.”
DAY 4
Lunch: Cook and Taste
“Such an incredible experience in the heart of Barcelona! This cooking class began with a tour of La Boqueria Market from the head chef to pick up the fresh, local ingredients. We learned more about the history of the city and the culture of the food scene! Then we spent hours drinking wine and cooking a potato tortilla, vegetable and seafood paella, and crème catalan (like crème brûlée). When booking, we were able to identify any allergies or dietary restrictions which were happily catered for by the staff (See photo). No nuts were used throughout our class whatsoever, but there would likely be extensive cross contamination of other allergens (eggs, milk, soy, wheat, shellfish, etc). But they offer private classes too, which may better accommodate other needs!”
Dinner: Bodega Bonay
“We went to this wine bar on our final night and were blown away by the food! Their standard menus labeled individual allergens on each menu item. There were no peanuts in any current menu items. We enjoyed the smoked bread and butter, celery carpaccio, spaghetti carbonara, tortellini in brodo, grilled lamb, and chocolate tart!”
Drinks: Bar Tomate
“Order your drinks at the downstairs bar of Tomate, then take the elevator up to the rooftop! We enjoyed semi-private views of the bustling Plaça Reial over glasses of sangria.”
