Peanut, Tree Nut, and Gluten-Free Spain Top Picks

Hi! I’m Justin, and I recently traveled to Spain with my fiancée! I found several safe spots to eat on the Camino de Santiago and in Barcelona while managing peanut and tree nut allergies and my fiancée’s gluten intolerance and shared them on the Spokin app — they are also all featured in this guide. One of my favorites was Tapas Petiscos Do Cardeal, where I had cod, shishitos, and patatas bravas. A fun thing to do if you are in the Barcelona area is seeing a concert at the Palau de La Música Catalana. Bodega Biarritz 1881 Tapes Bar

Location: Barcelona, Spain

“Best meal we had our entire trip! Before you even sit down, the head of the restaurant asks you if you or your party has any allergies. He quickly asked if sunflower seeds were ok for me, and ensured there was no gluten. They do 8 or 10 courses, and you don’t order. Everything comes out automatically, which is so fun! Can’t recommend it enough!”

Restaurante Xoanes

“Some of the nicest people we encountered in Spain! The waitstaff assured us that only one dessert had almonds, and other than that, no other nuts were in the kitchen. They even gave us free digestive shots after the meal. Would recommend!”

Tapas Petiscos Do Cardeal

Location: Santiago de Compostela, Spain

“This is one of the best restaurants of our entire trip. They were FANTASTIC with allergies, checking with the staff with everything that was ordered. Even as one dish came out, one of the waitresses ran over because there were figs in a sandwich and wanted to make sure that it was ok for me to eat. We liked this restaurant so much, we came back the next day to eat it for lunch!”
