Peanut and Tree Nut-Free Helsinki & Tallinn Travel Itinerary

Hi! I’m Mo, I manage peanut, tree nut, and pink peppercorn allergies, and I went to Helsinki, Finlad and Tallinn, Estonia to get back into solo traveling and meet up with a friend! A highlight of my trip was enjoying delicious cocktails and seeing beautiful architecture! My favorite restaurant was Olivia Kluuvi, where I ate pizza, enjoyed a cocktail, and got to enjoy dessert! “Staff were super helpful. The staff in the kitchen appreciated my Equal Eats card and one shared that he had a peanut allergy too. They have peanuts in the kitchen but the chef said they’d keep them covered, wipe down the prep area, and would put an extra piece of paper down when making my meal. Peanuts do not go in the grill they told me. Burger was delicious and so were the fries!”

This spot is located close to many popular sites in the Old Town and is a great place to start or end your day of exploring.”

Dinner: Taqueria

Location: Tallin, Estonia

They all looked at it and confirmed I could dine there. Enjoyed a BBQ pulled pork sandwich, mac ‘n cheese, and a delicious cocktail, the name of which escapes me. This is a great spot to stop at after exploring and shopping at Telliskivi Creative City and stopping by Fotografiska Tallinn.”

DAY 5

Lunch: Restaurant Minato Sushi

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“Tiny little spot for sushi on the west side of Helsinki. Restaurant offered a menu in English, I was able to communicate with staff in English, and they were very helpful at identifying what was safe for me. They have no nuts or peanuts, and the only thing we’re uncertain about was pink peppercorn being in the miso soup, so I just didn’t get that. Sushi was fresh and delicious, and service was fast. Went back multiple times. Highly recommend!”

Dinner: Beer Restaurant Pikkulintu Ruttopuisto

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“A friend and I grabbed dinner here. Staff took my Equal Eats card seriously, and I was able to communicate in English and they offered their menu in English too. Food and cocktails were both delicious!”

Drinks: Hemingway’s

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“Enjoyed a glass of wine here. They did have nuts for sale at the bar, but the bar was quite clean so I felt comfortable inside.”

Drinks: Anna K Karaoke Bar

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“Small dive-y bar which offers karaoke. Enjoyed a cocktail here with a friend and enjoyed watching karaoke for a while. They were helpful with my allergies when ordering cocktails. Place was pretty clean for a dive bar, and they’re open late which is great if you’re jet lagged and looking for something to do.”

DAY 6

Lunch: Olivia Kluuvi

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“Loved this spot! I alerted the staff at the front of my allergens and he ensured the staff in the kitchen and bar knew of my allergies. I enjoyed a pizza, cocktail, and even dessert-delicious panna cotta! Menu was marked with allergens which was very helpful. Staff spoke English and were receptive when I showed them my Equal Eats card.”

Dinner: Helsinki Bryggeri Brewhouse

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“Enjoyed a delicious burger and fries here, as well as a cocktail. Burger was salty and perfect and fries were crispy. Staff were very attentive to my Equal Eats card and double checked with kitchen staff when I placed my order about whether my meal would be safe. The space filled up quickly so I recommend going early to grab a spot.”

Drinks: Trillby and Chadwick

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“Our server was helpful at answering my questions and communicating my allergies with bar staff. Many liquors on the menu I had never heard of but staff knew all the ingredients in each which was incredibly reassuring. They have pink peppercorn as an option in the ‘create your own drink’ part of the menu, but our server said they’d make sure to keep my drink separate. Enjoyed a delicious cocktail – the best I’ve ever had – and the presentation was so fun and on theme. No pictures are allowed inside, but this spot is great for a date night.”

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“This brewery was on the island of Suomenlinna, located a ferry ride away from the city, and situated within the visitors center building. The menu was in English and I was able to communicate with staff in English and my allergens. They took my Equal Eats card back to the kitchen to confirm I could enjoy the asparagus soup, and told me I could enjoy their bread as it was produced in house. Soup was perfect after exploring the island in the cold, and the bread and butter were so fresh and delicious! Will never turn down a basket (or two!) of safe bread.”

Dinner: Cafe Boardgame

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“Fun spot for a snack, drink, and board games! I got a pizza and some wine with a friend. The staff I placed my order with was super knowledgeable about what went in the pizza and made sure to communicate with allergies to the kitchen staff. I communicated with staff in English but the menu was not in English, but the staff kindly answered my questions about the dishes. The margherita pizza was delicious and was served quickly. Highly recommend bringing friends to this spot. They do book up fast on weekends, so you may want to make a reservation. If you don’t buy food or drink, you’ll pay more to play games (no time limit, though).”

Drinks: Ateljee Bar

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“Rooftop hotel bar and restaurant with beautiful views overlooking the city; both indoor and outdoor seating is available. The bartender was helpful when I showed her my Equal Eats card and even double checked with another staff person to confirm my cocktail order would be safe. I was able to communicate with her in English and the menu was offered in English as well. My cocktail was delicious and fruity! I recommend going at off peak hours so you can communicate clearly as it was busy when I visited. Don’t forget to use their restroom which offers scenic views of the city too!”

DAY 8

Lunch: Restaurant Bruuveri

Location: Helsinki, Finland

“Brewpub located in a great mall with plenty of shopping, including supermarkets. Menu offered in English and I was able to communicate with staff in English. I ordered from the bar and the staff member told me he didn’t think they had any of my allergens, and he was right (he took my Equal Eats card to the kitchen to check with kitchen staff, and confirmed burger bun ingredients as they were produced externally). Enjoyed a delicious burger with wine and fries, and tasty bleu cheese dip. Staff was super helpful and kind when answering questions.”
