Nuts, Milk, Soy, Shellfish and Gluten-Free Italy Top Picks

Hi! I’m Kelsey, I recently traveled to Italy for my sister’s wedding and traveled to Siena, Chianti, Florence and Rome with my fiancé afterwards. I found so many safe spots to eat with my peanut, tree nut, milk, soy, wheat, rye, barley, crustacean and some fruit allergies (along with OAS)! I’ve shared them all on the Spokin app and they are featured in this guide. One of my favorites was Sgrano in Florence, where I was able to eat a sandwich on the street just like everybody else!  (I went there 3 times ) It was truly magical.  Aside from the incredible art and historical sites—a fun thing to do if you are in the Tuscany region (and 21+) is to visit a vineyard and taste some wine. My favorite was Azienda Agricola Montefioralle Winery, who were amazingly accommodating with their tasting pairings and made you feel like part of the family. Azienda Agricola Montefioralle Winery

Azienda Agricola Montefioralle Winery

Location: Chianti, Italy

“This is a small (5-acre) family-run vineyard in the town of Montefioralle in Chianti, just above Greve in Chianti. They take reservations for tastings and we did a tasting with Luca on the terrace with views of the vineyards and the town in the background. The tasting included four wines and a snack platter with pecorino cheese, salami, crackers and olives. We asked for gluten-free and they substituted the crackers with polenta. We ordered a case of wine and olive oil to send home!”

“Cute, well-priced hotel in a prime location in Florence. Breakfast is included and they have many options. No oat milk though. Did not really eat here but the juice and coffee were good.”

Angel Roofbar & Dining

“Beautiful rooftop bar for a drink, snack or meal! We came for drinks and ordered fries. Go during sunset it’s just so lovely!”

Caffè Italiano

Caffè Italiano

Location: Florence, Italy

“Great more upscale diner energy. We had steak and wine and they were very helpful with menu questions.”

Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco

Location: Florence, Italy

“This is Stanley Tucci’s favorite restaurant in Florence. It’s also mine :). A little more challenging to find something to eat for me because they are so clear that their kitchen is small. But the food is so incredible. I got the polenta with wild boar ragu which was positively decadent! My fiancé got steak in a Chianti glaze and we truly barely spoke the entire meal because we were so in love with the food! Very charming place. They also sell their wine carafes and they’re really cute. We bought a white one and are using it as a flower vase.”

Ciro and Sons - Restaurant Pizzeria Firenze

Ciro and Sons – Restaurant Pizzeria Firenze

Location: Florence, Italy

“Omg gluten-free pizza! I live in NYC and won’t eat pizza most of the time because it’s never worth it to me. This place was so yummy wow! They have non gluten-free pizza also for the regular people in your life lol—so many pizza options with cute drinks. We came here for lunch and each got a pizza. Very helpful staff and cute decor. You can eat inside or outside which is nice also! Amazing!”

Sgrano

Sgrano

Location: Florence, Italy

“I can only say incredible things about this place! There is a sit down sandwich shop, a to-go style sandwich window and a full service restaurant all by Sgrano! I went to the sandwich kiosk 3 times during my time there and got a different gluten-free sandwich every time. Note—you cannot customize your sandwich at the kiosk you can order what’s on the menu and remove items only. You also order on a touch screen device but there is a person at the window if you do have questions. The sit down sandwich portion does have servers. I liked the kiosk style because my partner could get his sandwich from another place on the main sandwich street at the same time so we both got what we wanted! The sit down full service restaurant is also phenomenal and everything is gluten-free! The fried dough they make is actually life changing. 1000/10 recommend to a friend.”

La Terrazza Rooftop Bar

Location: Florence, Italy

“Nice more trendy rooftop bar. They have a price to hold the table that covers your first drink which is really annoying but it was a nice vibe. More intimate setting there aren’t too many tables but nice for sunset. They do have nuts as a table snack so just be aware. If I were choosing just one rooftop bar I would pick Angel Roofbar & Dining.”

“This place! Many non-dairy options. And they have gluten-free cones! Their dark chocolate sorbet is also dairy-free and is absurdly delicious. We went twice! Highly recommend.”

Overall really great mid range hotel that feels elevated!”

“Beautiful resort hotel just outside Siena. We chose this place because it’s just outside the city but you can walk to Siena. The resort is stunning but on the expensive side. They also have gluten-free pasta and great wine selection.”

“Amazing! I love you Egli! Egli runs the place and is the most amazing person! We had my sisters wedding here and not only were they so accommodating with allergies and restrictions, they made the food with such love and integrity it made the event so much more special. Throughout the wedding weekend I ate pizza, sandwiches, gnocchi, tagliatelle, risotto, steak, and more! They just knocked it out of the park! I have been dreaming about their wild boar ragu. The facility itself is also so special. It can sleep up to 70 people so people could stay on site, they have a pool, and many areas for activities. We love you Egli!”
