Nut, Soy, Sesame and Legume-Free Italy Top Picks

Hi! I’m Kelly, and I recently traveled to the Amalfi Coast in Italy! I found many safe spots to eat while managing peanut, nut, soy, sesame, and chickpea food allergies and shared them on the Spokin app—all of my finds are also all featured in this guide. One of my favorites was Raki, which was the most fabulous gelateria I’ve ever been to! A fun thing to do if you are on the Amalfi Coast is to take a boat tour to visit Capri! Raki

Location: Sorrento, Italy

“The best gelato I have ever eaten! Also, they are extremely cautious about allergies. They have separate spoons and foam machines for nuts. They will change their gloves for you. In addition to all of that, they have a special area for all gelato that contains nuts in the display and if you have any allergies they scoop a fresh batch of any non-nut flavors from the back that have not been exposed to any nut flavors and scoop with fresh scoopers to ensure there is zero cross-contamination. “

“The staff is all family. They are beyond helpful at every step. On their menu, they clearly listed dishes as “contains nuts”, which was very helpful. Their seafood is the freshest I’ve ever had. I have never eaten so much food before, it was so good. Highly, highly recommend!”

“The hotel staff was so kind and accommodating. Breakfast was a buffet, everything had its own utensils so there was no cross contamination. If you don’t feel safe with buffet, you can order a personalized breakfast! Fantastic food, stunning views and the rooms are elite. Highlt recommend!.”

La Fedda Rossa - Ristorante Osteria

La Fedda Rossa – Ristorante Osteria

Location: Matera, Italy

“The waitress went above and beyond to make my family and I feel comfortable. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and how dishes would be prepared based on the allergies we told her we had. She had the staff change their gloves for us and let us know what we could and could not have. For example, their pasta was “artisanal,” meaning made in a facility with tree nuts and they could not confirm whether it was nut-free. I could not have any artisanal pasta, but there were plenty of other options! I also got fresh chopped fruit for dessert with Nutella, not included!”

Roma Sparita

Roma Sparita

Location: Rome, Italy

“Phenomenal food. The waitstaff is kind, patient, and thorough. I felt extremely safe eating here as someone with a severe nut allergy. The staff was so cautious and supportive. The food was phenomenal, especially the tomatoes and mozzarella cheese I ordered and the housemade lemon sorbet! We let them know our allergies ahead of time and they made recommendations to our order. The menu is clearly labeled.”
