Nut-Free Switzerland Top Picks

Hi! I’m Lindsay, and I recently traveled to Switzerland! I found many safe spots to eat while managing peanut, cashew, pistachio, walnut, and pecan allergies and shared them on the Spokin app—all of my finds are also all featured in this guide. One of my favorites was the Lindt Chocolate Factory, where my daughter was able to eat Swiss chocolates! A fun thing to do if you are in Switzerland is to spend a day in the Swiss Alps. Holy Cow! Gourmet Burger Co. ZÜRICH ZÄHRINGERSTRASSE

Holy Cow! Gourmet Burger Co. ZÜRICH ZÄHRINGERSTRASSE

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I emailed this restaurant prior to a trip. They sent their allergen chart. All cookies contain nuts, and they also have a satay sauce containing peanuts and some other unnamed nuts. They said they can’t guarantee cross-contamination, so it’s a pass! This is a chain around Zurich.”

Kai Sushi Seefeld

Kai Sushi Seefeld

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I contacted this restaurant prior to a trip, and they were very responsive. They initially told me that I could see all allergens on the menu as they have a key pointing out top allergens in each dish, but I wrote them back because they had nuts on a few dishes and inquired about cross-contamination. I was then told that if the allergy is severe, they couldn’t guarantee cross-contamination. He said, for example, that they may use a knife to chop cashews and then use it to cut sushi! The allergen key is useless, and I would avoid.”

LucyGoose Ice Creamery

Lucy Goose Ice Creamery

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I contacted this ice cream shop prior to a trip. Super polite and emailed me a very thorough detailing of how they clean their machines and their protocol for making non-nutty flavors first. But even so, there is a chance of cross-contamination, and pistachio is their most popular flavor, so the eyes are making a lot of it. “

Restaurant Blockhus

Restaurant Blockhus

“I contacted this restaurant before my visit to Zurich and received a nonsensical response indicating that they couldn’t accommodate us. I wouldn’t go here with allergies.”

Jacot Haute Chocolaterie Zürich

Jacot Haute Chocolaterie Zürich

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“Such a lovely woman working here, but unfortunately everything is cross-contaminated with all the different nuts they work with (I saw chocolates containing hazelnut, almond, macadamia, and pistachio – and there was probably walnut too). Definitely come if you don’t have a nut allergy. The woman working there gave me a free truffle because she felt so bad about my daughter not being able to eat anything ❤️”

Adler's Swiss Chuchi

Adler’s Swiss Chuchi

Location: Zürich, Switzerland

“This fondue restaurant is in the Adler Hotel, and they are clearly familiar with food allergies. They have a special menu that was given to my daughter that spelled out all allergens in each dish. I only saw one salad with walnuts and a dessert with almonds (although we didn’t look at the dessert menu closely). Very easy to communicate with waitstaff and a very amusing experience!”

Pizzeria San Gennaro - Zurigo Centrale

Pizzeria San Gennaro – Zurigo Centrale

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“We made an impromptu stop in this restaurant after a long day. They speak Italian, and although they speak English, it’s not the best. I showed them my Italian allergy cards to make sure they understood cross-contamination because they do have pistachios and mortadella for one pizza. They ended up sending out our pizza uncut to be especially cautious, which I appreciated. Delicious pizza too!”

Der Wilde Kaiser Wienzeile

Der Wilde Kaiser Wienzeile

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“Great Viennese restaurant with very knowledgeable waitstaff. Emailed them before our trip, and they were easy to communicate with in person as well. Our waitress did say to avoid the bread brought out before the meal because it could be cross-contaminated with nuts. Great meal!”

Bimi

Bimi

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I emailed this restaurant ahead of our visit. They said they could accommodate and don’t have anything containing nuts on their dinner menu. They mentioned a curry served at lunch that contained nuts. Waitstaff was great, and there wasn’t anything my daughter couldn’t eat. We didn’t inquire about dessert, so not sure about it. Great Japanese food!”

La Pasta

La Pasta

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“Fantastic Italian restaurant with homemade pasta! We popped in here after a recommendation from a friend. Waitstaff said a nut allergy was no problem and showed us an allergen key in the menu. They initially brought a couple pieces of bread to the table, but quickly removed it, saying the bread could be cross-contaminated. Didn’t see any nuts on main menu, and we didn’t look at the dessert menu.”

Razzia

Razzia

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I contacted this restaurant before a trip, and they wrote a very polite response saying that they could guarantee there wouldn’t be nuts in the food, but they cannot guarantee there wouldn’t be traces of nuts as they work with them in the kitchen. Not for people with food allergies.”

Steakhouse Old Town

Steakhouse Old Town

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“Was about to contact this restaurant for an upcoming trip and read two reviews detailing allergic reactions from this restaurant from two different individuals who both have nut allergies.”

Studio Bellerive

Studio Bellerive

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“This restaurant is inside the AMERON Bellerive au Lac. We ate breakfast here every morning, and I emailed with this restaurant manager about a dinner reservation as well, which I was told they could accommodate. We ended up canceling because my daughter wanted to go elsewhere, but they have limited nuts, and it was always an option!”

Shiso Burger Zürich

Shiso Burger Zürich

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I contacted this restaurant for an upcoming trip, and they emailed me back politely saying that they can’t guarantee an experience that is free of cross-contamination. I don’t think they have nuts, but they were clearly not comfortable with any allergies.”

Titlis

Titlis

Location: Engelberg, Switzerland

“I emailed a couple of restaurants before our trip, as Mt.Titlis is not that easy to get to the top (2 cable cars from Engelberg). Tons of fun activities – the ice flyer, cliff walk suspension bridge, and glacier cave. We ended up eating at the Skihutte Stand, but I also talked with Panorama, and they both were accommodating of a nut allergy. Keep in mind, there is a lot of Indian food at other restaurants (including at the base of Titlis), which wouldn’t be safe for those with nut allergies.”

AMERON Zürich Bellerive au Lac

AMERON Zürich Bellerive au Lac

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“Great hotel that’s centrally located to Altstadt. Our room had a mini-fridge, so you could put a couple of things in there, but it also contained mini bar items, so not tons of room. Our room rate included breakfast in their restaurant, which was a buffet with the ability to order eggs however you prefer them. We initially had to talk to the chef about which items were safe and which items/areas to avoid. Ended up working out perfectly. It was also easy to communicate with the hotel, both before our arrival and during our stay. Everyone speaks perfect English. The hotel is also close to several grocery stores and many restaurants. Beautiful view of Lake Zurich too!”

Restaurant Markthalle

Restaurant Markthalle

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I contacted this restaurant and they said they cannot guarantee cater to people with allergies, but it depends on the severity. They have a small kitchen and cannot guarantee trace amounts of allergens in their food. So, they don’t cater to people with allergies at all.”

BACiO della MAMMA

“I contacted this restaurant before the trip, and they said it’s no problem to accommodate my daughter’s allergy.”

Cantinetta Antinori

Cantinetta Antinori

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I contacted this restaurant for an upcoming trip, and although none of their main dishes contain nuts, they said that cross-contamination can occur because they sometimes garnish dishes with pistachios. Very polite, and it is definitely worth checking out if you don’t have a nut allergy.”

Sorbetto ice-cream!

Sorbetto ice-cream!

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“This ice cream shop has a case with open tubs of ice cream, but also has two cases with prepackaged cups and pints of ice cream as well. They have an allergen chart and speak perfect English. They have pistachio, amaretto, and hazelnut flavors, but all the rest are free of nuts. You can also check other allergen information too. Yay for safe ice cream!”

Raclette Factory

“Had an amazing lunch here. Completely nut-free and delicious! Very friendly waitstaff as well.”

Confiserie Honold

Confiserie Honold

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I contacted this chocolatier ahead of a trip. Super friendly and thorough in their explanation of their cleaning process, and the fact that they use a variety of nuts, but unfortunately, everything is potentially cross-contaminated. Definitely check them out if you don’t have a nut allergy!”

Lindt Home of Chocolate

Lindt Home of Chocolate

Location: Kilchberg, Switzerland

“We booked the tour here, not knowing if my daughter would actually be able to eat anything as she isn’t allergic to almonds or hazelnuts, the primary nuts used in Lindt chocolates. Very interesting tour, and we spoke with one of the chocolatiers about the allergy. She said that some chocolates only contained/were cross-contaminated with hazelnuts and/or almonds, and some had an “other nuts” warning along with the almond and hazelnut, at least here in Switzerland (US production could be totally different). Clear allergy labeling in the gift shop and several flavors are safe for those who don’t have an allergy to almond or hazelnut. Lindt is also completely peanut-free. They do have a new Dubai chocolate bar containing pistachio along with a pistachio Lindor, but it’s very obvious.”

Max Chocolatier Boutique Luzern

Max Chocolatier Boutique Luzern

Location: Luzern, Switzerland

“I contacted this chocolatier for an upcoming trip. They were very polite in their response, but there is a possibility of cross-contamination.”

Zeughauskeller

Zeughauskeller

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I emailed with this restaurant prior to our visit, and they said they could safely accommodate my daughter. We had dinner in this former armory with no issues. I didn’t see a single nut on the menu.”

Café CASA DEL GATO

Café CASA DEL GATO

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“We stopped in this cat cafe to get our animal fix, and it’s owned by a very sweet Spanish couple. They understood the English side of my German translation cards (I didn’t have my Spanish ones with me). They serve vegan/vegetarian food, crepes, and coffee. We ordered Nutella crepes because my daughter is not allergic to hazelnuts, and the owner was very cautious and opened a new container of Nutella and rewashed the utensils used, so there wasn’t any chance of cross-contamination. Additionally, no other nuts/nut products come into contact with the crepe griddle. They do have items containing cashew on their menu, but nothing that our items would have come into contact with. Great find!”

Bauschänzli

Bauschänzli

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“We stopped here for an impromptu lunch. Very small menu and absolutely no nuts on the lunch menu. They serve ice cream on the other side of the restaurant, some packaged items, and some out of a case, but we didn’t even look at it. Tried tarte flambé (Flammekueche) by the Limmat!”

Skihütte Stand

Skihütte Stand

Location: Engelberg, Switzerland

“This restaurant is midway up to Titlis (after the first cable car and before the Rotair). It had the highest ratings, I was able to email with them before our visit, and they said the allergy would be no issue. Three dishes contain tree nuts (walnut, pistachio, and pine nuts) as toppings, but they are clearly called out on the menu. I showed our waiter our allergy card to confirm he understood what I was saying, and we had a great meal!”

zum Kropf

Zum Kropf

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“I contacted this restaurant prior to the trip, and they initially wrote me back saying they cannot guarantee there isn’t any gluten in their food. I wrote them back again and said I was asking about nuts, not gluten, and I received a curt response that they couldn’t guarantee there weren’t any nuts either. Not good with allergies.”

Felsenegg

Felsenegg

Location: Stallikon, Switzerland

“I contacted this restaurant for an upcoming trip to Zurich to get some clarity on the menu. They have an allergy key on their menu, but there is no mention of any nuts in the individual dishes on the menu, although many items contain them. They responded quickly, but it was a flippant response that they can’t guarantee cross-contamination.”

Rosaly's Restaurant & Bar

Rosaly’s Restaurant & Bar

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

“Very kind and can accommodate allergies to nuts. Just let the staff know.”

Panorama Restaurant TITLIS

Panorama Restaurant TITLIS

Location: Engelberg, Switzerland

“I emailed with this restaurant ahead of our visit, and they can accommodate nut allergies. No nuts called out on their menu, but they do have a couple curry dishes and Movenpick ice cream for dessert. The ice cream is definitely not safe for tree nut allergies, and I would probably avoid the curries.”
