Nut-Free Copenhagen, Switzerland, and Paris Travel Itinerary

Hi! I’m Grace, I manage peanut and tree nut allergies, and I went to Copenhagen, Paris, and Zurich to visit my sister studying abroad. A highlight of my trip was going up into the Alps in Switzerland! My favorite restaurant was La Fronde where I ate a croque madame and crème brûlée. Copenhagen

Day 1

Dinner: Tivoli Food Hall

“This is a big food hall in Copenhagen that has SO many options! I got a danish hot dog and the man was so nice and checked everything for me in a book he had of all allergens. When I said thanks for checking he said ‘that’s my job!’ However I did ask the pizza stand about allergens and they were not as nice and didn’t inspire much confidence so think it’s very dependent on each restaurant there.”

Sightseeing: Downtown Copenhagen

Day 2

Breakfast: 20 Grams

“I loved this place! My sister said it was one of her favorites and they were great with allergies. She immediately suggested no rye bread and said they could make the yogurt bowl with no granola since it had nuts and gave me extra fruit.”

Lunch: McJoy’s Choice

“This place had the best fries I swear… and I also tried the herring here which was great. He put it on the side of the rye bread, which I opted not to eat given my seed allergy, to be extra safe.”

Dinner: Bazaar

“Definitely a lot of nuts on the menu but they made a note and made sure everything would be safe. They did note that the flatbread may contain traces of nuts but I enjoyed it safely. Really good food and turns into a bar later in the night!”

Snack: Emmis Place

“Hot dog cart near Nyhavn that had the best danish hot dog! So yummy and nut-free!”

Sightseeing: Canal Tour

Day 3

Breakfast: Wulff and Konstali

“A bit further from downtown but really cute and yummy. You fill out a piece of paper to select breakfast options from different categories and they have an allergen legend on there. I also let them know when I ordered to confirm and they were sweet and brought me a nut-free topping for my yogurt since I couldn’t have the granola. There were a ton of pastries that looked good, too.”

Dinner: Frankies

“Did the bottomless pizza and drinks deal here where the staff picks the food that you get. They have pesto and Romesco sauce which both have nuts in them. They were great and I got a personal pizza so everyone else could enjoy the pizzas with nuts.”

Day 4

Breakfast: Paludan Bog & Café

“This place is so cute! I safely had the omelette with no rye bread and some smoked salmon.”

Dinner: Reffen – Copenhagen Street Food

“This is a must do when in Copenhagen! Such a fun spot to eat, drink, and hang out outside. There are TONS of options and I had the chicken gyro which I will be thinking about for a long time it was so good… the chefs told me no nuts at their stand so that was a bonus!”

Sightseeing: Kastellet

Sightseeing: The King’s Garden

Sightseeing: Little Mermaid Statue

Paris

Day 5

Dinner: Kubri

“This was a cool spot in Paris that I went to for my friend’s birthday. A couple other girls had nut allergies which worked perfectly! They were able to make sure everything we ordered was nut-free except for the pistachio cake dessert (and they brought us nut-free rice pudding). There weren’t as many nuts on the menu as I would have thought but a few pistachio and almond dishes. She did note that they can’t ensure no cross-contamination in the kitchen, though. Sea bass was my favorite!”

Sightseeing: Jardin des Tuileries

Day 6

Breakfast: Du Pain et des Idées

“Got a warm fresh croissant here! It was so good, but definitely a chance of cross-contamination given they have nut pastries. He said the plain croissant was nut-free, though.”

Dinner: La Fronde

“This was one of my favorite meals on my trip! It was delicious (and perfect after drinking by the canal for the day). I safely had the croque madame and we split the crème brûlée too after asking the waitress if both were nut-free.”

Day 7

Breakfast: Boulangerie Patisserie Terroirs d’Avenir

“This was one of the best croissants I’ve ever had. She said there was a chance of cross-contamination since they have nut pastries, but for what it’s worth, I didn’t see any almond croissants which personally made me feel better. And I also got a baguette to go for my train ride.”

Sightseeing: Old Lyon

Zurich

Day 8

Dinner: Adler’s Swiss Chuchi

“This was amazing cheese and meat fondue. I asked about the meat fondue oil, and she said it was sunflower and everything else was pretty straightforward. Highly recommend!”

Sightseeing: Walking Around Zurich

Day 9

Lunch: Twiny Station

“Cute sandwich shop we went to per a recommendation. I had the schnitzel sandwich which was good and perfect post lots of walking. She was great with checking ingredients for me (even putting in the German word for rapeseed oil into google translate to confirm)!”

Sightseeing: Artisan’s Market

Sightseeing: Mount Pilatus
