Nut-Free Copenhagen Top Picks

Hi! I’m Natalie, and I recently traveled to Copenhagen! I found many safe spots to eat while managing allergies to peanuts, pistachios, cashews, and brazil nuts, and shared them on the Spokin app—all of my finds are also all featured in this guide. One of my favorites was definitely the dinner and experience I had at the Folkehust Absalon! The food was amazing, my friend and I met some very nice locals, and played a game of cards together in the beautiful church! I ate housemade bread, herb potatoes, vegetable soup, and a delightful pale ale! A fun thing to do if you are in Reffen is to enjoy tastes of the world on the water at Reffen Street Food. Tivoli is another great attraction worth seeing. It has an abundance of cute gifts, souvenirs, rides, a diverse dining center, and the cutest decor! Ismageriet

“This is a positive review for this ice cream shop, but I will start with a warning. If you are extremely concerned about cross-contamination, this is not the shop for you. There were definitely ice creams with nuts, and they were dispersed amongst those without. When I asked the worker to clean the scoop before giving me my ice cream, she did, but at first, she put the scoop back into the communal rinse for my second flavor. I had to say something. Additionally, most of everything was in Danish in this store, although just about every single person can speak very good English in Denmark. The communication with the employees was not an issue, but reading the menu was nearly impossible without Google Translate or asking an employee what a flavor was or if there were nuts in it.

Beyond that, I cannot begin to explain how delicious and creamy the ice cream I got was. I got two flavors in a cup: sweet salted caramel and white chocolate. The caramel had a ribbon of caramel through it, and the white chocolate flavor had thin pieces of white chocolate mixed in. Once I got past the moments of caution, the ice cream made the effort worth it. So delicious I wished I could bring it back home to my mom! She is a crazy caramel lover.”

Khmer Cuisine

“Who knew my first time eating Cambodian food would be in Copenhagen? Not me. While my friend insists that Cambodian food is better in Cambodia—a place he made us very aware he has been to before haha—this dinner was great! I shared the tofu version of Larb Sach Koh to start, and had Char Kuy Teav with beef for dinner. Everyone at the table ordered a lemongrass lemonade, and it was definitely a crowd favorite.”

Alice Ice Cream & Coffee

“What a perfect start to a perfect day! My wonderful friend, host, and I shared a cardamon bun and bread, butter, and cheese. There were no nuts in those dishes, although they did have a couple of pastries with nuts. The staff was very kind and knowledgeable about what pastries had what nuts, but gave me the “there’s a chance of cross-contamination” spiel anyway. Their coffee was delicious too!! I had a cappuccino. Wish I could go back!”

Reffen - Copenhagen Street Food

Reffen – Copenhagen Street Food

“I had a delicious poke bowl at Japan Easy, one of the food booths at Reffen. There were so many scrumptious-looking options, it was so difficult to decide. But the poke bowl I settled on was so good. When I told the man working the booth about my allergy, he let me know there were no nuts to worry about, and double checked about sesame seeds (while I know it’s not a nut, I appreciate the caution)! I wish I was in Copenhagen longer, or at least I immediately started planning my next trip, so I could come back to Reffen to try some other foods!”

Tivoli Gardens

“I loved walking around Tivoli! So many fun things to do, so many great ice cream shops and places to eat. I even went on one of the rides. It was no Six Flags, but it was still so fun!”

Studenterhuset

“Had a perfect little iced latte here at the student for student coffee shop! Totally recommend if you’re looking for a quick spot to snack or chill in between shops and other adventures.”

Bottega Barlie

“What a delightful brunch! It was the perfect start to my Copenhagen trip with a fun take on the classic smorrebrod topped with tomato, feta, dill, and a fried egg. I also shared what my friend told me is a simple but classic Copenhagen dish—bread, butter, and cheese! The waitress was very kind, and knew exactly what was in the dishes we ordered. She knew the bread in either dish didn’t have nuts but did have seeds and double checked that they were okay for me. She also made sure the kitchen was made aware of my allergy anyway. It was wonderful!”

Cavallino Amager

“My friend and I ordered for pick up at this wonderful spot over the phone. I told them about my allergy, and they had a little bit of trouble communicating which nuts were in their pesto, but I whipped out the Google Translate and handled that situation like I was born to! They have pine nuts in their pesto. My friend and I had a pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella, ricotta, arugula, truffle, and balsamic vinegar. We also got a salad. No nuts in it.”

LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW Tivoli

“Wow. I did not open this licorice until I got home to share with my beautiful mother who lives for black licorice. I brought home sweet black licorice, red licorice, crispy caramel black licorice (mind blowing, life changing, epiphany inducing btw), and each flavor was incredible. I even ended up buying more for my mom for Mother’s Day! Totally recommend trying if you can! Their licorice is gluten-free and nut-free! Such an amazing treat.”

DØP – The Organic Hotdog Stand

“I had a classic hot dog of Copenhagen here. I had the classic hot dog with their classic toppings. Delicious, iconic, and only a little messy to eat without a table. Try it!”

Vandkunsten

“I had the ‘SALMON DE LUX’ sandwich at this salad and sandwich shop on my first day in Copenhagen. It had chopped veggies, nova lox, avocado mousse (whatever that is!), and Dijon. It was fresh and delightful! When I told the employee about my allergy, she shared that the nuts on the menu were on the salad side of the counter, which was separated by the register.”

GAO Dumpling Bar

“For a quick lunch, my friend and I stopped in this cute little dumpling restaurant. They had the kind of menus you fill out and hand in at the register, but the manager was very accommodating when I asked about nuts before choosing if and what I would eat at their restaurant. I had the Hong Kong Steamed dumplings, which had cabbage, ginger, and pork. There were no nuts I had to be concerned about when ordering the dumplings! Only one of their sauces had peanuts. It was the perfect quick bite between walking, shopping, and exploring! There were also tons of cute cafes, bars, and small plate restaurants nearby if this particular place doesn’t tickle your fancy, but the area does!”

Tivoli Food Hall

Tivoli Food Hall

“I ate a delightful salmon salad smorrebrod for lunch at the Tivoli food hall! PLEASE go try it out! There were so many options it was hard to decide, but I had been dying to try smorrebrod since I stepped foot in Copenhagen, so I happily ordered it there. No nuts in the different smorrebrodd at this spot!”

Ps Bar & Grill

“I did not eat anything here, but I danced my butt off with wonderful friends. I did take a singular tequila shot here and was totally safe, so I say that counts for something! It was fun, sweaty, and they played good music mixed with some random songs I didn’t know.”

SMK – Statens Museum for Kunst

SMK – Statens Museum for Kunst

Location: Copenhagen , Denmark

“Love an art museum and this one was no exception! Loved seeing the beautiful Danish art, as well as some of the beautiful work from around the world that found its way into the SMK. There was a Michelangelo “draft” exhibit, which was incredible. Definitely worth adding to the list of places to visit if you like a good museum!”

Folkehuset Absalon

Folkehuset Absalon

Location: Copenhagen , Denmark

“What an experience! A family style dinner, served to an old church-full of people, in a beautiful hall, was amazing. You buy a ticket for a seat, and then dinner is provided to your table! There’s a new menu every Sunday, and the one we had on the night I attended was amazing! We had homemade bread, vegetable and bean soup, and herb-dressed potatoes. It was amazing. My friend and I sat at a table with some locals and got to know their stories and learned about how they all met and come to eat this weekly meal together as often as they can. It was incredible. They also had games and cards and other activities to do while you waited for food. A great place to take a family! There were no nuts in the food, although they did warn me about possible cross contamination in the dessert, which I did not eat.”
