Allergy-Friendly Campus Guide: Harvard University

HARVARD

My experience with dining at Harvard with a nut allergy has been somewhat positive. Dishes with allergens are only sometimes labelled, and so it requires a lot of asking the dining staff. I also have been given the option to order my meals separately and email ahead (accommodations through AEO). However, students at Harvard do not have the option to cook for themselves or get off of the required meal plan.

Cafe Sushi

Café Sushi was a wonderful experience. I felt that throughout I was in very safe hands. They alerted the chef of my allergy and ensured my food was prepared in a clean area.

Le’s Vietnamese Restaurant

I had a very positive experience at Le’s. Our waiter asked about food allergies first and made sure to check each option I was considering. I ordered the Special Beef Noodle Soup and it was delicious!

Dumpling House

The menu is overwhelming and I would NOT recommend if you are gluten-free or celiac! But absolutely delicious.

Veggie Grill

YUM! I served as an ambassador for Veggie Grill for a semester and ate here regularly. They are new to Harvard Square and all dishes are VEGAN! While there isn’t a guarantee there won’t be tree nut cross-contact, I have eaten here many times safely. Roasted carrots and cauliflower rice is delicious. I don’t worry about milk here either. The manager knew me by the end of the year because I came so regularly!

Staff understands food allergies but there is not a clear protocol in place to protect those with allergies. It is primarily a high-quality buffet line and it takes constant communication with the waitstaff. I have only eaten here with a tree nut allergy, not when I was allergic to milk!

Bonchon Cambridge

I had a very good experience here. There are several items on the menu that are safe! Eaten here once and would return. Make sure to let the waiter know about your food allergies.

Felipe’s Taqueria

I’ve eaten here safely on several occasions. I only get the vegan options or grilled chicken. Make sure to ask for new gloves and alert them of your allergies!

Russell House Tavern

Although they were helpful while ordering,I had very few options with my milk allergy. I have only been twice, and both times I had to order the same item.

Daedalus

They told me they had received several trainings about allergies and cross-contamination. I got tacos and was perfectly safe! Delicious, and the only type of tree nut on the menu was walnuts.
