ALABAMA

Bocca Ristorante

Location: Birmingham, Alabama

“I had reached out to the restaurant in advance, and the general manager informed me that they could absolutely accommodate my allergies. I was able to eat bread at a restaurant for the first time in awhile as the focaccia is made in house and did not contain sesame! Server was knowledgable about what dishes to avoid (as of July 2024), only two of the entrees had nuts (although there are nuts in the desserts, mostly almonds). In addition to the bread service, I had the bolognese which was delicious!”

ARIZONA

Intentional Foods (IF Cafe & Market)

Location: Mesa, Arizona

“OMG drop everything you are doing and run to Intentional Foods! This was the first time in my life in which I could walk into a restaurant and order anything off of the menu – absolutely incredible!! I had Caesar salad (including croutons!) for the first time in my life, and it did not disappoint! The sweet potato fries were outstanding and the desserts…don’t get me started! You must try the churro donut served warm!! Most of all, you must talk to Lisa, who is the kindest woman who I feel so lucky to have met!!”

Nami

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

“This was my first time having a safe version of a DQ blizzard – in the form of a Nami Soynami! Their soft serve comes out of its own machine and is a coconut-soy base! They have food allergy protocols and used clean equipment to stir my toppings of choice (which they got out of fresh containers) into the soft serve. I found out about Nami from a fellow Spokin ambassador and was so excited to be able to try it!”

CALIFORNIA

Randy’s Donuts

Location: Costa Mesa, California

“I went to Randy’s after seeing the reviews for this location in this app and had a great experience. I called ahead and their employee walked me through their protocols, told me they only have Nutella but no peanuts, and that they change gloves and have the donuts on separate days. To be extra cautious about cross-contamination, he recommended I ask for donuts from the back of the tray to be extra cautious even though they’re very careful about cross-contamination. They were very understanding of my allergy, were patient at the window while walking me through their protocols again, and I was able to eat a donut for the first time in years! Truly so special as I never thought I’d have somewhere I can eat donuts on the regular!”

RAKKAN Ramen

Location: Long Beach, California

“This was my first time ever having Ramen! I’ve always been nervous because of my milk, beef, pork, egg, allergies… but the staff here reassured me that my Ramen would be prepared separately in a clean prep space. I got the Garnet vegan Ramen, and it was so delicious and satisfying! I can’t believe this was something I have been missing out on… I can’t wait to go back! I also appreciate that all of the broth here are plant-based by default, and there is a vegan version for almost every item on the menu. They seem to be really great with food allergies in general.”

I was delighted and surprised to find a fully vegan fried chicken restaurant right when I walked in. My first time being able to eat at a sports game ever and it was absolutely delicious. I got the Nashville Chicken Sandwich with fries. Delectable! Highly recommended for anyone with milk/egg/fish allergies.”

Erewhon

Location: Los Angeles, California

“Erewhon was on my bucket list for LA! I had seen so much about this expensive grocery store all over social media and I just wanted to go inside one. I didn’t expect to find SUSHI I could EAT!?! I found a black rice (??) spicy caterpillar roll and it was SO good! The thing I was excited about the most was that in the little sushi box came my tamari brand gluten-free soy sauce in the little packet!! Wow!! This was my first time eating sushi from a grocery store. The avocado on top of the sushi was so fun and I loved the spicy mayonnaise. It was definitely expensive though! What a cool experience!”

COLORADO

Burrowing Owl

“I’m allergic to dairy and had ‘cheese’ for the first time in forever, and it was awesome. Everything here is good and not just ‘good for vegan food’. I was almost in tears because I could have ANYTHING on the menu and know that it was safe. It’s been more than 3 years since I’ve eaten some of these foods. I had their Mac n’ Cheese, the chocolate, cake, loaded baked potato soup, and adult chocolate milk (chocolate syrup, almond milk, peanut butter and bourbon.) We were in town for 3 days and went every night for dinner. I seriously can’t say enough about this place.”

CONNECTICUT

Koffee

Location: New Haven, Connecticut

“I noticed they had sunbutter items instead of peanut butter and when I asked about whether they had any nuts… I was informed by an employee that the owner’s child had a nut allergy and they have a nut-free kitchen. I haven’t brought my child there yet but I feel better eating food from there around him. Update: my son who is allergic to peanuts and some tree nuts ate there successfully! He is almost 3 years old and it was his very first time eating a non-packaged item out of a bakery case! He was excited and we can’t wait to go back! However, I was disappointed by a barista there recently who made me feel stupid for asking if their kitchen was still nut-free (it’s not posted anywhere so I always ask), incredibly condescending and completely ruined my afternoon.”

FLORIDA

HaleLife Bakery

Location: Clearwater, Florida

“This was such a great find for us! They are nut-free, and also soy, dairy, egg and gluten-free. It’s a little hard to find but it’s very clean and nice inside. They have pretty cupcakes and adorable little donuts in many flavors. My kids loved everything they had. I emailed the owner before visiting and they do NOT use Bob’s Red Mill gluten-free flour, which most gluten-free places do and has a risk of cross-contamination with nuts. This was my daughter’s first time in a bakery she could eat at and it was so special for us.”

Location: Destin, Florida

“I cannot say enough about Lulu’s in Destin! This is the first time that our son could eat at a restaurant with us and everything went so well! Our son has tree nut, dairy, egg, and beef allergies and we still had options! I loved that a manager takes your order from an allergy-friendly menu and is very knowledgeable about it all. She was the only person handling our son’s food and they prepared it in a dedicated kitchen. The whole facility is nut-free too! highly recommend-definitely making this a regular stop on our beach trips!”

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant

“AMAZING! I do not even have words! If you are going to Disney, you must go here! It is located inside Hollywood Studios! I had a shake for the first time in my life…and not just any shake, but a cookie shake made with Tofutti ice cream, Enjoy Life cookies, rice milk, coconut whipped cream, and house made chocolate sauce! Chef Daniel makes everything in his own station, so no need to worry about cross-contact! In addition to the shake, I had an outstanding burger and fries! Definitely one of the best meals of my life, and chef could not have been any kinder!!”

D-Luxe Burger

Location: Lake Buena Vista, Florida

“This place was incredible!! I came back two days in a row while in Disney, as it was just too good to be true! It is nearly impossible to find a restaurant with a fryer dedicated free of milk, eggs, and wheat, but here I could have crispy French fries for the first time in my life!! Just incredible! I also got a fantastic island burger on a lettuce that the chef modified for me. All allergy orders come out clearly labeled! It is truly a dream come true when it comes to allergies…why can’t places like this exist outside of Disney?!?”
@missmeliss1895 who manages celiac and peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, and shellfish allergies

Rainforest Cafe

Location: Lake Buena Vista, Florida

“This was my first time eating out at a restaurant in probably two years. I’ve become avoidant. So, I was super nervous. But the server had one of the chefs come out and he told us each individually what we could order with our different allergens. I’m shellfish and fish allergic and he said all of the burgers and fries are safe. The French fries are in a dedicated fryer. For my son with peanut and tree nut allergies, Chef Dwayne said everything would be okay except the desserts. So, he had macaroni and cheese and fresh fruit. My son with peanut, tree nut, egg, dairy, tomato ate a burger without a bun and fresh fruit. The bun is cross-contaminated with egg and dairy. The burger was very good!”
@allergymomtries who manages peanut, tree nut, egg, fish, milk, and shellfish allergies

Ale & Compass Restaurant

Location: Orlando, Florida

“This was the first time I’ve ate at a Disney resort and it was such a magical experience! I met up with another Spokin ambassador (allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and dairy) and we both were able to have a safe and delicious meal. As soon as we sat down, our server asked if we had any allergies and wrote them down while bringing out the chef to speak to us about our meals. The chef (I believe his name was Chef John) was absolutely amazing! He was able to accommodate us with no problem at all. I had the French Dip Flatbread and it was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend Ale and Compass!”

@dbart who manages peanut, tree nut, and egg allergies

Kona Cafe

Location: Orlando, Florida

“Kona Cafe is located in the Polynesian Resort at Disney—it’s next to Ohana inside. My first impression was off because the guy at the counter that was checking us in asked if we had any allergies, I listed mine, and he said ‘well, we have water!’ He was probably new and doesn’t understand that Disney specializes in allergies. But when we sat down the chef came out and she was so knowledgeable and kind. She mentioned bringing rolls out, and I said, ‘what did you just say??’ And she brought out gluten-free rolls with earth balance butter. The brand is Bloomsfield bread, and it pulled apart like real rolls!! My whole family said they were delicious. It was my first time getting to pull a piece of a roll, put butter on it with a knife, and EAT IT!! It was so fun. For the main meal, I got the Spicy Tuna Roll without the spicy mayonnaise, and got avocado instead. The whole restaurant uses tamari gluten-free soy sauce. My mom got the Kona Chicken Stir-fry, which I could also have, so we shared. For desert I got Coconut Tapioca which is a Pineapple-Coconut Jam base topped with Fresh Fruit and Assorted Boba. It was so good!! I will definitely be coming back.”
@samisafeeats who manages peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, shellfish, and wheat allergies

Mikado Sushi

Location: Orlando, Florida

“This was the first time having completely safe Japanese food at a Japanese restaurant! It took a lot of calls and research but I am so happy I finally found a place! Mikado did not disappoint at all. When we had called prior to dining the hosts were super informative. They only have one roll on the menu that contains a tree nut. However, they make sure to fully sanitize the sushi station if you are ordering sushi. If you order from the kitchen they have no peanuts or tree nuts. They cook in 100% refined vegetable oil. The waiter and staff are completely knowledgeable about allergies and ensured me that my sushi would be nowhere near the tree nuts. It was an amazing experience to be able to have safe sushi and Japanese food at an actually Japanese restaurant and it just Publix sushi.”
@amandapayo1219 who manages peanuts and chickpea allergies

@alyssabauder who manages a peanut allergy

Rose & Crown Pub

Location: Orlando, Florida

“I love Disney so much! They always do me so well. I got the shepherds pie and it was probably one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The chef came out and talked to us and understood completely! It was my first shepherds pie!! And then I had an English trifle, which wasn’t my favorite but I don’t really get to complain about a TRIFLE! The whipped cream on top, though, was incredible. My mom and grandpa said it tastes exactly like the real thing. A couple sitting next to us ordered the trifle because it ‘looked good’ and wasn’t on the menu. They loved it and I mentioned how it was my first time having whipped cream. They told me it tastes like the real thing! It’s the whipped cream used on Disney Cruises, I remember, but I forgot the name. You can only buy it in bulk though.”

Walt Disney World Resort

Location: Orlando, Florida

“15 years ago when many chefs were not too familiar with cooking for kids with multiple food allergies we went to Disney for the first time. Everyone was amazing! Alfredo, our chef for one of our first breakfasts came to the table to ask my daughter, ‘princess, what would you like for breakfast?’ She said had never tried French toast in the past. He made it for her and I’ve never seen such a smile. On her and me! we have always taken such great comfort knowing that the Disney chefs are knowledgeable and truly care.”

Servers were very good about my allergies and told the whole kitchen. Again, I felt super safe eating here. I got the pork belly rice bowl and it was probably the best thing I have ever eaten. I called the restaurant a couple days before and I got to speak to the chef. She explained the different fryers and it sounded really promising!! The entire restaurant is gluten-free except for the ice cream cones. This was my first time eating chips and guacamole at a restaurant! It was so good. ILLINOIS

FRÍO Gelato – Navy Pier

Location: Chicago, Illinois

“Frio was soooo good! I’ve never been able to visit an ice cream shop or anything similar and enjoy a dessert. We visited Frio twice while in Chicago because it was that good. I had emailed them and they let me know that their sorbets were safe and made without dairy and that when I visit their location I can alert the staff of my allergies and they would scoop fresh sorbet for me from the back. That’s exactly what happened and the staff was so friendly! When I returned the next day, they knew me already and knew exactly what to do. I had the berry and lemon sorbet. The berry was my favorite – it was really fruity and really good!”
@ashleybga who manages peanut, tree nut, sesame, milk, and soy allergies

Happy Lamb Hot Pot

Location: Chicago, Illinois

“This was a fantastic spot! I have never tried hot pot before so this was very exciting for me. There were no nuts on the menu except peanuts. They had peanuts at the sauce bar and there was a peanut vinegar on the menu. However, they were relatively easy to avoid. There were no nuts in the broth, and all of the ingredients brought to the table were simple and unencumbered by sauces or anything hard to know the exact ingredients of. You order with a menu that you check boxes for and hand the the waiter, so you only get exactly what you ask for and eat what you want! It was a great experience and I would absolutely go again!”

“So many firsts here!! I had nachos, a milkshake, and mashed potatoes for the first time. They have separate blender for allergy milkshakes since they have the peanut flavor in the other blender. This place is amazing and manager came out—she was so knowledgeable and kind. The nachos were only my appetizer, though. I had a lentil loaf with gravy (kind of like meatloaf—whole restaurant is vegan) that comes with garlic potatoes. I could have mashed potatoes here so of course I ordered them!! Mashed potatoes are so good!! Nachos are so good!! I love strawberry milkshakes!!”

“My 17 year old with tree nut, peanut, sesame, and salmon allergies ate sushi for the first time and we felt so safe at Kai Zan! He loved every single bite! They modified the omakase menu for him so he didn’t have any sesame or salmon. Each plate came to him with an orchid petal so we knew they were keeping his food separate and safe. To see his face when he took his first bite was so amazing. Thank you, Spokin, for giving us the tools to let him try sushi and thank you Kai Zan for the best first sushi experience!”

Luckily, this place still has authentic Korean BBG as well as a full English speaking staff! One of the first questions they asked us is if we had any food allergies. Overall, super delicious (and thick pork belly!!) and a chill restaurant vibe!! Highly recommend for first time Korean BBG.”

She referred to an allergen book with all of the information. The whole menu is vegan and gluten-free items are flagged. I got the soul bowl with sweet potato fries and a chocolate shake. They use a separate allergen blender for the shakes and only used chocolate chips for toppings as the other ones had nut cross-contamination. Such a delicious and safe shake!!”

Limited tree nuts on the menu but they made note of all our allergies and the staff was so nice and patient and answered all of our questions. The absolute best part is they have an Oatly machine! My girls were able to have soft serve cones for the first time. Safe dinner and dessert in one spot is so rare for our family— such a win. I have only seen them at farmer’s markets but you can order online as well. They are incredibly kind and accommodating, and the prices are great. Farmer’s markets are usually not safe for me so I’m really grateful that I finally found somewhere where I can buy something to eat when I go. IOWA

Mandarin Grill & Sushi Bar

“This is literally the first time we’ve ever eaten out at an Asian restaurant with our daughter where she could eat more than rice. Usually we can’t because wheat is in so many Asian sauces, but the owner has celiacs and she gets it. There’s a gluten friendly section on there which my daughter could safely eat from. We also mentioned her other allergies and they took care of us. I’m excited to go back.”

They’re very allergy aware regarding cross-contamination, what ingredients are in their dishes, etc. Our waitress informed us of what would be safe, if the fryers were shared, and any other potential issues. She checked with both the chef and manager once we decided on a meal. They have an amazing selection of gluten-free and vegan items. Everything was delicious and my daughter had a great safe experience here. Limited nuts on the menu. Will definitely return! Their takeout has been amazing. Kura Revolving Sushi Bar

Location: Framingham, Massachusetts

My very first sushi experience!! Since losing my sesame allergy, my boyfriend has been dying to take me to sushi and we decided to start with revolving sushi so I could try a few things without committing to a whole roll. The only thing that had nuts was the ramen so I avoided that, but otherwise safely tried a few different things and was totally safe! We even had mochi at the end! The server was SO nice and had a peanut allergy himself, so he was really helpful and was willing to check double anything I needed him to.

“I emailed them before traveling. The manager emailed me back. When we were there spoke to manager and they made the pizza separately. My daughter is anaphylactic to dairy, egg, tree nut, peanut. She’s never eaten a pizza out before bc she is very sensitive to cross contact. We ate two pizzas there during our trip and she was so thrilled. Would absolutely recommend.”

It is a go-to meal when I’m in a Simon mall, whether it is in Roosevelt Field on Long Island or King of Prussia in Pennsylvania! The managers always come to meet me when I notify them of my allergies, and they serve it separate from my friends’ meals, too. I would 100% recommend!”

The owner/staff were all SO kind and knowledgeable. There are so many flavor options, safe toppings and a variety of cones. If you manage multiple allergies and are in NYC, GO HERE! Nom Wah Tea Parlor

Location: New York, New York

“We ate here successfully and the food was yummy. This was the first time my daughter ever had dim sum. My mom spoke with the waitstaff in Cantonese and they explained that the fried gluten-free dim sum options share a fryer. They do have gluten-free tamari sauce (San-J) to use. The only nut product on the menu was almond cookies. It was cool eating here because our family has been eating there for a long time. Nom Wah is one the original dim sum places in Manhattan Chinatown. The staff do speak English, but we spoke to them in Chinese to make sure they understood. Also you might see some famous people there. They’ve got a few pics up on the wall with them and I’ve seen a few on Instagram”

The owner was very lovely and told us she could ship the product and that she gave product to local school in the area, which I thought was very cool and very nice of her.”

NORTH CAROLINA

Hole Doughnuts

Location: Asheville, North Carolina

“We just ate here again and almond is still the only tree nut on premises. Still amazing donuts that thrilled my daughter!! They do have a sesame donut if that’s an issue for you. This restaurant does use almonds in the coating of one donut. Otherwise they carry and use no other nuts. My daughter was able to have donuts from a donut shop for the first time in her life! (She’s okay with almonds although we skipped that coating to be safe from cross contamination). They even made sure to use a clean tray for the donuts she ate, as they are made to order. This place really made my daughter’s day!”

Two Roosters Ice Cream

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina

“This was the first time my dairy, egg, wheat, peanut, and tree nut-allergic son was able to have ice cream. Their dairy-free (and gluten free) cookies and cream had only soy from the top 9. The staff was very proactive, they knew all the ingredients and had laminated ingredient lists for all the details. They cleaned their hands, got fresh gloves and scoops and served out of a new container. My son loved it. Appreciate so much their attentiveness and allergy protocol, which the whole staff seemed very educated on.”

Sunflower Bakehouse

Location: Nashville, Tennessee

“This place was amazing!! Whole restaurant is vegan and gluten free. (modifiable to add gluten bread but it is kept extremely separate from the restaurant and I felt safe). I was able to order baked mac and cheese out of the house for the first time! They use cashew cheese, but it is a safe nut for me. They use a few other nuts in the restaurant but are very apparent and clearly labeled. I also got a delicious smoothie made in a separate nut free blender as some of their smoothies have nuts. They have a full bakery that is completely vegan and gluten free and has all nut allergies clearly labeled. My first time getting baked goods anywhere and it was absolutely delicious. I had trouble choosing because I never have any options. Truly an allergy dream!!!”

“Awesome Bites Co. was my first ever cookie cake! My boyfriend found this bakery and ordered me a cookie cake for my 20th birthday! The bakery was founded by a food allergy mom and is dedicated free from dairy, egg, soy, peanuts and tree nuts! Almost everything is gluten-free (they have cross contact protocols to separate wheat-containing products!) I didn’t know this until we picked up the cake, but they also have homemade scooped Top 8 free ice cream in store! There were some super cool flavors like Suntella (made in store chocolate sunflower butter) and gluten-free cookies and creme, and they have gluten-freee cones and allergy-friendly toppings! VERMONT

Piecasso

Location: Stowe, Vermont

“I read the many positive reviews about Piecasso and had to try it and see if they could make a pizza for my 7-year-old daughter who has numerous food allergies. She has never in her life eaten pizza other than what we have made for her at home. This was a special moment for her as the wait staff and kitchen crew were able to safely make her a pizza. The regular pizza dough has soy in it but the regular gluten free dough was free from all of her allergens. The sauce has Parmesan cheese, but they do have a dairy free marinara option that was also free from her allergens. They used Vio-Life mozzarella shreds for the allergy free cheese and that was it. A delicious cheese pizza that was free from Peanut, Tree nut, dairy, egg, soy, sesame, and legumes. Staff was great and came out to double check ingredients with us to make sure the food would be safe. They even remembered me when I came back in to get another one for my daughter a few days later. Great experience here!”

Frankie & Jo’s

“Had a wonderful experience here! The lovely person behind the counter gave us the ingredients and nutrition binder so we could determine what ice creams were safe. Our son chose the cranberry ginger snap and oat nog ice cream in a waffle cone. He’s never been able to have scooped ice cream anywhere other than home and he loved it. We had seven people in our group, six of whom don’t have allergies nor are vegan but we all loved the delicious ice creams here and the understanding and knowledgeable lady behind the counter. She even let our son try a few more flavors after he had his scoop because she wanted him to be able to experience as many new things as he safely could. We will definitely return!”

AUSTRALIA

Piccolina Gelateria

Location: Melbourne, Australia

“With my dairy and nut allergies I have always avoided ice cream/gelato shops. However, I stumbled across Piccolina in Melbourne and safely ate my first-ever sorbet!

When looking at the menu options at Piccolina I noticed quite a few dairy-free sorbet options listed. They also had an allergy notice on their menu to let their team know if you suffer from allergies so they can share an allergen table. I decided to speak to the staff to understand their allergy process and see if I would be comfortable to eat here!

Their allergen menu was clearly labelled and there were a few sorbets that did not contain any of my allergies. They had a may contain traces label since there are gelatos in the kitchen that have dairy and nuts. However, they explained to me that for allergies they would use a brand new scoop to ensure it hadn’t touched the other tubs of ice cream. They also opened a brand new tub of sorbet to minimize the risks of cross-contamination!! The staff were really amazing and well-versed in allergies so I decided to try the following sorbet.”

AUSTRIA

Lugeck

Location: Wien, Austria

“One of my favorite restaurants I ate at while abroad. I heard this restaurant was well known for the schnitzel (which I can’t have) and I made a reservation so my boyfriend could try it. I definitely recommend making a reservation and when I went they had to turn away customers and send them to their sister restaurant which isn’t far from lugeck. First I LOVED that their menu labeled with allergens and that they have an annex so I knew which each allergen was. We got the tartare of charr and it was pretty good but I definitely prefer tuna over charr. For my main course, I got a chicken Caesar salad which was so exciting because it was my first time ever having a Caesar salad. It comes with plant based chicken but I switched it to regular chicken. When it first came out I wasn’t sure if it was nuts or pine nuts (which I’m not allergic to) so I checked with the waiter and he said pine nuts and checked with the chef! A must visit if you go to Vienna!”

MARKED Restaurant

Location: Toronto, Canada

“Today I had the brunch of my dreams at Marked. I communicated with the chef ahead of time and she prepared me an incredible feast that was so plentiful I couldn’t even finish it, which is so rare when dining out with allergies. It was the first time I had ever eaten avocado toast or pancakes in a restaurant so that was also super exciting for me. She found me before the meal (we were a group of 18) to go over what she had prepared, which included a run down of the ingredients she used in her scratch made bread, the brand of oat milk used in the pancakes, and what oil she fried everything in. She was aware of cross contact and made sure to mention that there was no cross contact with any of my allergens and that she had made the whole meal herself. She delivered each course herself and it was all so delicious. My friends were so happy to see me eat! And it really made my day. Can’t wait to go back with my family.”

Fasika Restaurant

“This was my first time eating Ethiopian food, and it was great! I couldn’t have the injera because it had gluten, but the staff prepared a gluten free version for me. Essentially they put the injera toppings on a separate plate for me. The toppings were stews, lentils, potatoes, veggies, etc. It was really flavorful and delicious! There are bananas in one of the drinks, so the staff made sure my glassware and plates were specially cleaned and kept far away from the bananas. They were great in accommodating my allergies, and I highly recommend Fasika!”

The manager was very knowledgeable about allergies and aside from a few items with coconut, they were completely nut free. They also had allergy icons next to all of the items on the menu which was a good guideline to use when deciding to eat. Both nights I ordered the pork gyoza for starters and then I ordered the chicken ramen one night and then the chicken teriyaki the other night. I was so well taken-care of from start to finish here, and the chef created a special sushi roll made specifically for me, it was my first ever. I can’t recommend this place enough! I will say that (like most of Ibiza) this place is super sceney, but it didn’t stop the waitstaff from taking their time to make sure they fully understood what my allergies were & how to accommodate.
