Clever Koi

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

“So delicious and excellent with nut allergies! They made sure to check which oils were safe and the chef substituted out the oil just to be safe for our daughter. The only peanuts are on the pork belly steam buns, which can be omitted. We had a variety of ramen bowls, dumplings and other starters—all great!”

CALIFORNIA

KINARI ABURI SUSHI & Noodles

Location: Los Angeles, California

“A delicious spot with GLUTEN FREE RAMEN. Most restaurants that offer gluten free ramen have a disclaimer about possible contamination, but this restaurant has a dedicated prep area. In fact, if they receive a gluten free order they always make sure to do it before any other order to ensure it was not contaminated. They also told me they have a completely separate prep area. The noodles are tasty and my grandma could not tell the difference between my gluten free noodles and her regular noodles. Super flavorful and be sure to add a hard boiled egg because that’s my favorite part!”

Suzu

Location: San Francisco, California

“This is entirely a noodle/curry place, and when I asked if there was any concern about shellfish the waitress was confused as to why that would be a concern and reassured me that there wasn’t (I’ve run into shellfish broth in other places). Anyway, I was safe and the food was really fast! Not the highest quality ramen ever, but such a convenient (and safe!) spot. I don’t remember seeing nuts on the menu at all (but still avoided the curry per my usual precautions).”

Location: San Diego, California

“This is the best ramen I have ever had in my life! At first I gotta as hesitant to try a ramen restaurant because of my peanut allergy, but the staff went through ever detail of how they make the ramen and other items in the menu. They took special precautions and told me they had no nuts in their restaurant or in their sauces! It’s a must if you’re in San Diego. Actually, where ever you are you should fly to this special ramen restaurant.”

RICE Sake & Real Food

Location: Manhattan Beach, California

“What’s better than finding out a sushi restaurant carries gluten-free soy sauce? The answer is Rice, a dedicated gluten-free sushi restaurant in Manhattan Beach. This menu has everything you’ve always dreamed of ordering from a Japanese restaurant, from tempura to crunch sushi rolls to ramen. I always order the crispy rice, kabocha pumpkin, and the rising sun sushi roll. There are also lots of vegetarian options available if you’re skipping fish. Grab a slice of green tea or chocolate cake to finish off an amazing meal here.”

FLORIDA

DOMU

Location: Jacksonville, Florida

“Even though this restaurant is known for ramen, my favorite dish is their cheezus! Its corn baked with TONS of gooey mozzarella with a side of bread for dipping. If you’re gluten free, the corn is good on its own! With ramen, egg is normally added so when my brother goes we just ask them not to put it in. Their ramen menu even has a vegan option.”

“My daughter had sushi and ramen here safely! They have a gluten free menu that you can ask for. There were only peanuts on the menu in one sushi roll. I called ahead to ask about allergens beforehand. The person I spoke to said they list out ingredients on their menu and if we had any questions we could ask, but felt confident they could handle our allergies. Our server noted her allergens when taking our order. Everything was delicious and we will definitely be back!”

“The waitstaff was very patient and helpful, both when I called ahead of time and when I finally got to the restaurant. We had some of the best ramen I’ve ever had, without any need to ask them to substitute or remove ingredients. We were also able to enjoy sushi here for the first time! The waitstaff told us with confidence that they’d be able to clean their kitchen tools to avoid cross contamination with shellfish.I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. The food is sooo good and allergy-friendly, and an absolute steal for the price.”

wagamama

Location: New York, New York

“We had a very helpful server. They can modify their menu to accommodate allergies and they have a separate vegan menu. Our son has milk and egg allergies but was able to safely enjoy an appetizer, entree and dessert, which is so rare! You can substitute the soba/ramen noodles for either udon or rice noodles which don’t contain egg and they will also make sure there is no egg cooked in sauce with those noodles. For appetizer, our son had the vegetable tempura which is vegan (menu item #111). For entree, our son had a teppanyaki dish and he selected the teriyaki sirloin steak option with udon noodles instead of soba noodles (menu item #45).”

“Chaplin’s is a Charlie Chaplin themed ramen bar with great cocktails. They have no peanuts or tree nuts in any of their food. The food is great and I’m comfortable eating there as none of their food has my allergens, but don’t believe they take any specific allergy precautions so I may be wary if I had different allergies.”

@lechillton, who manages peanut and tree nut allergies

Daikaya Ramen and Izakaya

Location: Washington, DC

“WOW. This was the best experience at a restaurant in Washington D.C. I’ve had yet! Our waiter, Lucas, was amazing. He was thorough, considerate, cautious, and followed through when making sure we had the safest and best dinner possible. One of the chefs has a peanut allergy, and so he had changed the pickle recipe so it had not nuts in it. Lucas also came back to our table with a list of allergens and the dishes that contained them. Incredibly helpful and kind. Lucas even came back with a menu that he had personally crossed out the dishes I could not have. As a bonus, the food was delicious! ”
