EAT

Shake Shack

Location: Nassau, Bahamas

“The staff here went above and beyond to ensure that my daughter’s hamburger was safe for her. They brought over the bag of rolls, which was a familiar brand (Martin’s Potato Roll). She showed me pictures on her phone for the hamburger and french fry ingredients, as well as the oil (vegetable and soy). Even with me approving all of that, she was very cautious and let me know that they do have walnuts in the kitchen, and she wanted my verbal approval that my daughter could eat the food.”

Costa at Rosewood Baha Mar

Location: Nassau, Bahamas

“This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Bahamas. Not only was there a beautiful scenery and ambiance, but the waiter asked right away if there were any allergens she should know about. Those are the type of waiters who make us feel like we are in good hands. This is mainly a Mexican cuisine menu, so we did not run into any trouble with having nut allergies.”

Carmine’s

Location: Paradise Island, Bahamas

“We visit every time we are at Atlantis. The waitstaff and kitchen do a great job of handling allergies. Typically order the roasted pepper appetizer with mozzarella and anchovies, chicken parmesan, and pasta marinara. Stay away from the meatballs if avoiding nuts, as they include pesto. I’ve enjoyed the broiled porterhouse as well. I also stay away from the desserts.”

Frezca

Location: Paradise Island, Bahamas

“We were sent here as an ‘allergy-friendly’ location for lunch at Atlantis. It’s the outside restaurant near The Cove pool. The staff could not have been lovelier and more helpful. The hostess immediately radioed for a chef, who came straight out to discuss options with me. She took our order of a plain cheeseburger and fries (offered us a regular roll or an Udi’s). They explained it was going to take about 20 minutes because they’d go prepare it in a separate area to reduce any cross-contamination risk. Her burger came out beautifully packaged to-go, with condiments, utensils, etc. We all agreed that her burger was almost twice as large as the other burgers we were served at the other location. Huge kudos to the Atlantis staff! We continued to order lunch here all week. The staff was fabulous, and the quesadillas were even better than the burger.”

Marina Pizzeria

Location: Paradise Island, Bahamas

“Very simple menu: pizza, a few prepackaged salads, and prepackaged desserts. As soon as I asked about nuts, the cashier stated, ‘This is a no nut zone’! The place was PACKED with a line out the door at 8pm on a summer night. But the line moves fast. Our peanut and tree nut-allergic daughter loved the cheese pizza. We grabbed a table outside and enjoyed the people and boat watching in the harbor. A much cheaper option than the buffet or sit down restaurants nearby.”

Seafire Steakhouse

Location: Paradise Island, Bahamas

“We went to this restaurant twice, and my kids loved it. As a tip, it is first come first serve on their patio, so if you get there early enough you don’t need a reservation. Chef was great, and kids loved their steak and mashed potatoes. My food allergy kid had a plain burger (no bun) and steamed broccoli the first night. We had to send it back and ask them to redo it when it came out with a bun. They did so happily and with many apologies and made him a brand new dinner. On the second night, he had steak and steamed veggies.”

Social House Sushi & Grill

Location: Nassau, Bahamas

“This was a great restaurant, with excellent food and ambiance. The waitstaff knew what foods had allergens and what foods did not. They checked with our nut allergies. Overall, they had great food with no allergic reaction.”

STAY

Atlantis Bahamas

Location: Paradise Island, Bahamas

“I am an adult with severe food allergies who strictly needs to follow a Six-Food Elimination Diet. The staff at every resort restaurant was extremely well educated and extremely helpful. Each and every time, a chef came to the table to discuss my allergies, figure out what I’d like to eat, and assured me I would be well taken care of. The food was delicious, artfully presented, and made for a very happy, relaxing vacation. I highly recommend the resort for this reason.”

The Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Hotel, Bahamas

Location: Nassau, Bahamas

“This place was gorgeous and so great with my kids allergies! I was able to arrange for safe foods to be available prior to our trip there. Chef Curtis (executive chef) and his kitchen staff were extremely helpful and accommodating to my kids every need. He was able to send me pictures of products that he had available, with ingredient lists for me to check. If there were any unsafe products, Chef Curtis personally went to a local grocery store to find suitable products. The great thing is that all products were US-based, which made it even better! He was also able to ensure safety with proper cross-contamination protocols in the kitchen when preparing my kids food. The kitchen staff were always aware and allowed me to triple check any foods my kids would consume. Best tip—email the chef and resort at least 1-2 weeks prior to staying there to allow full preparation and suitable foods to be made available upon arrival.”
