The Original Farmers Market
Location: Los Angeles, California
“Located at the Grove, this farmers market has a TON of options — everything from crepes, tacos, Greek food, Brazilian food, etc. Protocols depend on the restaurant/booth, but staff is usually friendly and helpful. The crepe place as well as Trejos tacos were very knowledgeable about their ingredients and gave suggestions for what to order based on safe foods.”

Westwood Village Farmers’ Market
Location: Los Angeles, California
“I have rarely eaten here but have had friends visit with me and try different things. Some notable places: there is a Thai Food shop, a bunch of really good juice shops (one sells watermelon juice and that person was very safe with my allergies), and also Amy’s ice cream shop. Amy’s ice cream used to be made with macadamia nut, but I have heard she is transitioning to oat. Overall, loved going to the farmers market to get fresh produce. They had some shops that sold nut products so I would be careful about those.”

Marina Del Rey Farmer’s Market
Location: Marina del Rey, California
“My whole family and I visited this pizza stand at the Marina Del Rey Farmers Market and had such a great experience! They offered nut-free and sesame-free pizza, and the staff was super knowledgeable about food allergies. They were really helpful and made us feel super comfortable. It was so nice to find an allergy-friendly pizza option at a farmers market. Definitely recommend checking them out!”

Ferry Building Farmers Market
Location: San Francisco, California
“Have yet to eat here, but I’ve been on the hunt for good kueh lapis back here in the States and will definitely give this a try. Do note that this bakery is on the pricier side, especially given their Ferry Building Farmers Market pickup and tasting location. I reached out about allergies and here’s what they had to say: ‘The only cake with tree nut is the nougats, which contain almond in it. The rest of the cake has no nuts or tree nuts as ingredients. HOWEVER, please note that we bake/steam our cakes in a SHARED commissary kitchen and we cannot control what other food businesses cook/bake in the kitchen while we make our cakes in our time slots”

Torrance Certified Farmers’ Market
Location: Torrance, California
“I’ve been coming here since I was little. They have a wonderful array of produce and a good selection of food booths. In fact, there’s a Thai booth called Thai Tiffany’s, and it’s the only time I get Thai food since they don’t add peanuts to their pad thai. Their chicken satays are also quite good. They do put peanuts in a little container and when you order they ask if you’d like them, but you can easily refuse. There’s also a hot dog/snow cone booth and a pretty good salsa booth. The hot dog booth has super basic food, and the owners are really friendly. And if you like salsa, I would definitely try the salsa booth. Their original has beans in it, but if you prefer without, they have a separate container for salsa without beans. If you have time, it’s worth a visit with the family. And it takes place every Tuesday and Saturday. One bummer though is that they do typically have a peanut booth, so it can be smelled a bit when you are on the food side, and you often times find pieces of peanut shells so definitely wear shoes or just be aware that there may be some on the floor. I’ve worn slippers and walked around and haven’t had an issue, but every allergy is different so please do be careful if it’s a first time visit.”

“I adore this farmers market!! Every time I get to visit my grandparents in Florida, we do our best to go to this market every Saturday. I love a farmers market that is booth to booth full of food, and trust me, this market has plenty of safe, delicious options, but I also love a market full of goods, arts, and trinkets! Pine Ridge is a great place to bring anyone with food allergies, as they have great food and knowledgeable sellers as well as some exciting non-food options.”

Hilo Farmers Market
Location: Hilo, Hawaii
“Visiting the Hilo Farmers Market is a must-do if you’re on this side of the Big Island! It’s mostly a fruit/vegetable market so I’d say it’s really allergy-friendly. The produce is amazing and really affordable—we got 3 delicious Hawaiian papayas for $2! They also have apples, bananas, avocados, rambutan, pineapple, mangosteen, etc.”

Kaka’ako Farmers Market
Location: Honolulu, Hawaii
“Started off Saturday morning here. It’s about 15 minutes from Waikiki. Tons of food stands which tend to be difficult for us because most of the time we can’t really call ahead to get information and we worry a lot about cross-contamination. Found one fruit stand that literally only sold fruit bowls that had watermelon, dragon fruit, star fruit, banana, mango, papaya, kiwi, mandarin. We asked, and there was absolutely no coconut. At least not today. They were $20 and a long line but so worth it. Each bite of fruit was sweet and delicious.”

Kailua Farmers’ Market
Location: Kailua, Hawaii
“Kailua Farmers Market is a must visit! In particular for Li’ili’i Donuts. The donuts are 100% gluten-free and vegan. They are prepared fresh in front of you and come out warm so you can eat them right away! The donuts are mini so don’t feel bad if you eat your whole order at once! There were some other nice booths to check out at the market. There was even a Brazilian bread booth which is gluten-free.”

Coconut Marketplace
Location: Kapaʻa, Hawaii
“The Coconut Marketplace holds a farmers market every Tuesday and Thursday, so we were glad that we were in Kauai en route to the north shore this past Tuesday. We stopped to grab some fruit for breakfast. It’s a small marketplace but we were able to buy mango and pineapple and even got to try raw sugar cane. They cut it into small pieces for you and you basically suck on it and then throw out the fibrous chunk that’s left. It was pretty cool to try.”

Grove Farm Market
Location: Lihue, Hawaii
“This farmer’s market is every Saturday morning. Lots of fresh produce. We loved these Thai coconut rice pancakes, which were topped with dragon fruit, scallions, or lychee, made by Ned & Noi Khanom Krok. Check out their very helpful sign, noting they were gluten-free, egg-free, and dairy-free. Also enjoyed shave ice and iced coffee from Wicked Coffee.”

61st St Farmers Market
Location: Chicago, Illinois
“My family loves Bot Bakery! Everything they make is vegan and gluten-free. We have made a habit of picking up a treat from their stand at the 61st St Farmers Market, and I believe they also go to the farmers market in Logan Square. We show our allergy card and get clear guidance on which products are safe for us. We have also had a cake custom-made — Betty was great to work with and ensured that all of the ingredients worked for us.”

“Logan Square Farmers Market was the best farmers market I’ve been to! They were so kind and accommodating, and had lots of vegan and gluten-free options. Every vendor had ingredients ready to go for people to read, and everyone knew their manufacturing protocols very well. I had vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free berry crumble pie as well as chocolate chip cookies! I also had pasta salad and lots of freshly juiced drinks. I also had my first strawberry matcha latte here. So good!”

Downers Grove Farmers Market
Location: Downers Grove, Illinois
“Went to another farmers market this weekend. It was a bit smaller and didn’t have as many allergy-friendly options as the Naperville one! I saw this matcha place all over my social media which is why I wanted to check it out, oat milk is the standard for all of their drinks and it was a bit too strong on the matcha tasting for my liking. I also recently had allergy testing done and learned I am no longer allergic to cashews & pecans and have been slowly introducing them into my diet so we got a bag of candied cashews and pecans. There is cross-contamination with other nuts, but I sampled them last week (same vendor) and didn’t have any reaction so I decided to get a bag this time!”

“The Ithaca Farmers Market is one of my favorite activities in the early fall or late spring (when they open). The farmers market has all different types of locally sourced and grown fresh produce. They also have little food stands of diverse types of food! I always stay away from the Asian/Thai places just because I’m cautious but I have gotten sweet and savory crepes, cookies, apple cider donuts, and burritos at the farmers market. They also have really cute little places to sit by the water here. It is a great activity.”

Old Town Farmers Market (Alexandria)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
“So I’ve been wanting to try out Baked by Yael, but anytime we are in DC it just seems like driving to the bakery is a little out of the way for where we are staying. On this trip to DC, we ended up staying in Alexandria, and imagine my surprise when I found out that Baked by Yael has its products in the farmers market across the street from our hotel. On Saturday mornings, they are at the Old Town Farmers Market in Alexandria. I messaged them to confirm the products here come from the same nut-free bakery at their flagship store and they assured me everything was nut-free. They did say they use coconut oil in some products, such as vegan cheese and frozen coffee (but my sister can do coconut oil — just not fresh coconut). Once there, they had an assortment of bagels, cake pops, and cookie and raspberry bars. They even had cream cheese for the bagels. Food was great. I think this is the first time we bought food at a farmers market that isn’t just fresh fruit so that was really nice! Thanks to Baked by Yael!!”
