Bootshaus

“Wonderful Kölsch and Reibekuchen with apple sauce—safe and very knowledgeable waitstaff.”

Reissdorf am Hahnentor

“I was a bit nervous to experience a restaurant without an English menu in a new cuisine. However, I got the schnitzel and the Himmel un Ad (black pudding with mashed potatoes, apple sauce, roasted onions) and it was delicious! Our server also spoke English. I felt really grateful for Google Translate and really happy that I got to experience new cuisine.”

Brauhaus Em Kölsche Boor

“They have an allergy menu! And absolutely nothing has nuts (when you receive the allergy menu look for Erdnüsse & Schalenfrüchte) except for the apple strudel – Himmel un Äad is a specific dish to Cologne and it’s really great here! The Kölsch is also wonderful and comes in small glasses. Tender blood sausage, warm apple ‘sauce’, seasoned mashed potatoes, and onions marinated in malt hier.”

Fasika Restaurant

“This was my first time eating Ethiopian food, and it was great! I couldn’t have the injera because it had gluten, but the staff prepared a gluten-free version for me. Essentially they put the injera toppings on a separate plate for me. The toppings were stews, lentils, potatoes, veggies, etc. It was really flavorful and delicious! There are bananas in one of the drinks, so the staff made sure my glassware and plates were specially cleaned and kept far away from the bananas. They were great in accommodating my allergies, and I highly recommend Fasika!”

HaldiSpoon

“Only uses almonds! Definitely recommend the chicken tikka. Gorgeous space in a cute neighborhood across the water from the main touristy/downtown areas—easy, short train ride over. Reasonable prices for the city.”

Black Angus XL

“Tasty and nut-free Argentinian steakhouse! I emailed this restaurant beforehand to see if they had any peanuts or tree nuts, and they said everything was nut-free. Once I got there, I double-checked with the waitstaff, and while they weren’t able to give a clear answer (likely because of the language barrier), they were able to confirm whether my meal choice was safe. I had the rump steak, fresh veggies, and Sion Kölsh beer without any issues. The restaurant staff seem to only speak German, so if you’re not fluent, I would recommend bringing a translation card.”

Funkhaus Cafe-Bar-Restaurant

Funkhaus Cafe-Bar-Restaurant

“A little pricey but really beautiful spot by the Kölner Dom and the Philharmonie. Their sandwiches are beautiful and their coffees are great! Also knowledgeable about allergies.”
