Virginia Tech

“I had a pretty positive dining experience at Virginia Tech! Virginia Tech has nine main dining buildings with multiple food courts, cafes, and more to choose from. While some dining halls can be a little hit or miss when it comes to risk of cross-contamination, there is an option to notify staff of any food allergies. I found the variety of food choices super helpful when searching for peanut-free options & many dining halls also contain grab-and-go sections with items containing clearly defined nutrition labels. There’s also a “Hokie Dining” app with more in-depth menus and nutritional information for every Virginia Tech dining center. I used this app frequently as a student & found it very helpful when navigating my peanut allergy!”

Turner Place

Turner Place

“One of my favorite dining halls as a student! I was able to pick and choose from a lot of peanut-free options here. They have a Qdoba, Jamba Juice, Bruegger’s Bagels, and more inside, plus a grab-and-go section. All grab-and-go items had a nutrition label. Although it was a little hit or miss, there’s also an option to notify staff of an allergy if there’s risk of cross-contamination.”

“Another one of my go-to spots! Although they do have some items containing nuts here, the menu is very detailed, and the staff were always very approachable. I believe they also have an allergy notice sign in the store that explains which food items contain which allergens. The store is completely peanut-free, and I’ve never had any issues eating here.”

Rising Silo Brewery

“The food here is farm-to-table and so fresh! They offer seasonal menus usually containing pizzas, burgers, salads, and more. Every time I’ve been, the menu has been peanut-free. Very welcoming staff and the best vibes here! There’s usually live music & it’s an amazing place to hang out with friends and family.”

“The food is SO good here! I ate here a handful of times as a student & the tacos in particular were my favorite! The menu is completely nut-free, which is a huge plus.”

Playa Bowls

Playa Bowls

“I worked at Playa Bowls for several years (in multiple locations) and have never had any issues despite having a peanut allergy! All allergy bowls are prepped in a separate area & bowl ingredients are always clearly listed on the menu. There’s also a ton of dairy, nut, and gluten-free menu items.”

Bollo’s Cafe & Bakery

“I went here often as a student! The staff were always kind & the baked goods are delicious. The pumpkin chocolate chip muffins were a personal favorite! The menu has a ton of nut-free options & they frequently had vegan and gluten-free bakery items.”

Lighthouse Coffee

Lighthouse Coffee

“My favorite place to get coffee back at school! The staff here are the best and always so welcoming! Menu is completely nut-free (although seasonal flavors sometimes contain nuts) and they offer dairy-free milk options. They occasionally sell baked goods which usually have the ingredients clearly listed out as well. The perfect coffee shop & the best vibes all around. I highly recommend!”

Sugar Magnolia

“I ate here SO many times as a student! The staff were always super friendly & quick to use a clean scoop from a fresh bin whenever I mentioned my peanut allergy. Some flavors contain nuts, but there are usually a good amount of nut-free options. Each flavor also has a little ingredient card on the glass, which was always super helpful!”
