Peanut, Nut, Milk, and Egg-Free Norway Top Picks

Hi! I’m Catherine and I recently traveled to Norway where I solo traveled in Oslo and the Lofoten Islands for two weeks. I found many safe places to eat while managing peanut, tree nut, milk and egg allergies. One of my favorite places to eat was The Salmon in Oslo, where I tried fresh salmon sushi. If you travel up to Lofoten, a must-do activity is hiking Reinebringen, I truly felt like I was on top of the world. “I went here for drinks and had a great experience. I ordered a Nordic pear cider, which was delicious. The online ordering also had an option to list food allergies.”

“I loved my meal here! The waiter was immediately very impressed with my allergy translator card and made sure to show it to the chef. I ordered a halibut dish with sweet potato, and it was supposed to come with a cream sauce, but they made a special coconut lemongrass sauce for me to accommodate my allergies. It’s amazing to see people really care in these situations. They could not have been nicer, and the food was delicious.”

“They were amazing at accommodating allergies here. I used my Equal Eats card, but there wasn’t much of a language barrier, which made me feel more reassured. My server double-checked everything with the kitchen and even came back to ask clarifying questions. The menu was also labeled with the top allergens, so each dish had symbols next to its name, and I knew what was safe. They were still able to modify one of the menu items to remove the dairy so I could have cooked salmon too. The food was delicious and made with completely fresh, local Norwegian salmon, which was so cool to try. I ordered grilled salmon and also tried salmon nigiri for the first time and really liked it!”

“I adored this stay. It was a fisherman’s cabin, and I had my own kitchen where I would cook meals and eat outside by the water. The kitchen was stocked with some cooking supplies and seasonings, but it was also really close to a grocery store where I bought everything I needed to cook. The kitchen utensils were very clean, and I felt comfortable using everything.”
