Dairy-Free Portugal Top Picks

Hi! I’m Jenna and I recently traveled to Lisbon, Porto, and Cascais in Portugal I found many safe places to eat while managing a milk allergy on a girls trip. One of my favorite places to eat was Vegan Nata Chiado in Lisbon where I got dairy-free pastel de nata. If you travel to Portugal, a must-do activity is a Douro River wine cruise in Porto. We did a private boat cruise with Alma Douro and it was everything! Follow me on the Spokin app @jennatso to see my 286 reviews and Instagram @thefoodallergytherapist!

Cult of Pita

Cult of Pita

Location: Porto, Portugal

“Had a delicious Mediterranean meal here! They were great with my dairy allergy. I got the hummus bowl and it was so good. They used fresh ingredients from the back with clean gloves and utensils. It definitely took a lot longer to get my meal, but I am happy to wait as long as it is safe. Highly recommend!”

Rosamar

Rosamar

Location: Lisboa, Portugal

“This is a beautiful seafood restaurant in the heart of Lisbon! I love that they have major allergens labeled on the menu and the staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. I only felt comfortable getting the oysters and the tuna, but they did offer to make other dishes dairy free for me, which I appreciated. They use a good amount of dairy in the kitchen though, so I didn’t feel like branching out. Highly recommend this for all of the seafood lovers!”

“This was such an amazing surprise! I wouldn’t expect there to be a fully vegan, dairy-free ice cream shop in a cute little beach town in Portugal, but here is Scoop n Dough! Friendly staff, helpful, clear labeling and allergy awareness. I got the raspberry cheesecake and cookie dough flavors. So so good!”

Vinum

Vinum

Location: Porto, Portugal

“This is a beautiful restaurant to watch the sunset and see the best view of Porto. The staff are attentive and kind. I told them about my dairy allergy and used my Equal Eats card, and they told me they’d bring a separate safe loaf of bread for me to dip in olive oil as well as the tuna with sesame oil. Both were delicious and I appreciated how the bread was still in the packaging when they brought it so I could read the ingredients!”

BOSCO Porto

Location: Porto, Portugal

“We didn’t eat here, but we had delicious drinks. This is an awesome spot to watch the sunset and take in Porto (especially if the weather is nice because it’s mostly outdoors). The garden is so pretty and romantic. We loved the passion fruit mojitos and pisco sour. Highly recommend grabbing a bottle of Vinho Verde to enjoy too!”

Zō Omakase

Location: Lisboa, Portugal

“My first omakase experience and it was so amazing, affordable, and allergy friendly! The staff took such good care of me. I indicated my allergy on the reservation and also reminded them of it when I was there, and they explained exactly what I’d be getting and any substitutions. I even was able to have a safe dessert option. Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. A must try in Lisbon!”

Odete Vegan Bakery

Location: Porto, Portugal

“What an amazing little vegan bakery! I got the ham and cheese sandwich on sourdough and a vegan pastel de nata. My friends got croissants and loved them. The owner is kind and helpful. They do have items that contain peanuts, and all their items do contain gluten, but it’s amazing for dairy and egg allergies. Their drinks use oat milk.”

HARKOS…. Sushi restaurant

Harkos

“This was an awesome Japanese restaurant in the adorable town of Sintra, located close to the castles. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I used my Equal Eats card here and felt safe. I got the salmon donburi bowl and the salmon avocado roll. So good!”

Plenty of vegan options as well. I highly recommend this place for a nice lunch or dinner in Lisbon! In such a cute central area as well.”
