EAT

1. Duque

“Menu is nut-free, and while they are not marked, they have many gluten-free options on the menu. Perfect for home cooked style meal with fresh fish, potatoes, and vegetables! Their dessert options were nut-free as well, including gluten-free chocolate mousse. This place has become very popular due to TripAdvisor rankings, so best to show early for a table!”

2. JNcQUOI Avenida

“We went into this restaurant twice in Lisbon. Although the area was pretty loud and hard to communicate allergens, the ambiance was beautiful. There was actually a DJ in the bathroom which was pretty cool! As for allergies, we stayed pretty safe by having buttered spaghetti and a chicken mushroom dish. Other than that, the meals offered were primarily seafood which my sister and I could not eat. The food was great and the appetizers were pretty safe for our allergies as shown in the picture.”

4. Miss Can

“There were no peanuts! It’s a cute little shop with a decent menu. I got to enjoy some canned fish, bread, and lemonade as a snack. It was never busy and the staff were very friendly! Definitely come here if you’re in Portugal!”

5. The Little Wine Bar

“I love the Little Wine Bar! I went twice in a week! Harry was my favorite server and he was so nice! There were peanuts in the kitchen, but just in one dessert. They were very good at keeping my food away. The food is beautiful and delicious and the drinks are stunning. They know so much about wine local to Portugal. You can get green wine and special liqueur. There are only a few tables and it’s just tucked in off the sidewalk. This is a must if you’re in Lisbon!”

6. Dear Breakfast – Chiado

7. Libertà Kitchen

“Mostly pasta and it’s so good! No peanuts in the kitchen! I was full of jet lag, but this pasta was amazing and was prepared quickly, too!”

8. Quintal das Docas

“THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD! The restaurant is right on the water. The drinks are BEAUTIFUL, as well as the food. There were real flowers on the dishes. There are no peanuts in the kitchen! I ordered lots of sushi and I just wanted more! I still dream about this restaurant!”

9. Paladarium

“They don’t have any nuts or peanuts in their menu. They use nuts (pistachios) in only a dessert, which they sprinkle on top. My son had vegetable paella twice from here. We felt safe and everything is cooked in olive oil. The staff fully understood our concerns with my son’s allergy.”

10. Zenith

“This restaurant clearly labeled which items where gluten-free and/ or vegan on the menu. They also had gluten-free bread substitutes. The waitstaff informed me they used nuts in their kitchen and couldn’t 100% guarantee there would be no cross-contact. Depending on your comfort level, I would still recommend this place! I ended up ordering a poached egg over sweet potato “toast” with mushrooms, avocado, and asparagus. It was delicious. They also offer coffee with non-dairy alternatives!”

11. Ginos

“Gino’s is a great place to go if you are celiac. There are two locations, one in Parque de Nações, and this one, in Principe Real. They have a completely separate (but limited) gluten-free menu, in which they guarantee their items ordered from the menu will be free of gluten and any contamination. The items ordered from the gluten-free menu are brought out on blue plates to signal they are from the “celiacos” menu. The gluten-free pasta is great, but the gluten-free pizza crust was a bit dry. For other allergies, they have an extended allergen menu on their website where you can input your allergens and see what is safe, what may be cross-contaminated, and what contains the top 13 allergens. Safe for peanut allergies!”

12. Adega Dom Luis

“Authentic Portuguese food! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a local spot. I handed the waiter my allergy card for tree nuts and he said they had no nuts on the menu. I also informed him I was gluten-free. Most of their traditional dishes are protein and veggie-based, so it wasn’t an issue. I ordered the tuna steak and it came with potatoes and broccoli. I will say, there may be issues with some translation, as they brought out a traditional dish for us to try and it was a bread mashed up in spices (similar to a stuffing). It wasn’t gluten-free, of course, but when he placed it on the table, he ran through all of the ingredients in it (so I didn’t eat it!). Still would recommend this place for a great local atmosphere and awesome food.”

14. Coyo Taco – Príncipe Real

“Awesome place! The menu lists which items are gluten-free tacos (corn tortillas) and the staff informed me that only one item on the menu had nuts and it was peanuts (which I am not allergic to). Would recommend!”

15. Incomum

“Incomum is very accommodating for food allergies! They were responsive to my allergy questions over email, letting me know that their gluten-free bread is made out of potato starch and rice flour, not lupine flour. Would highly recommend the sea bass for a gluten-free option.”

16. Dama E Vagabundo

“This hidden gem of a pizza place served me the most delicious pizza. The menu and waitstaff were able to accommodate various allergies and everyone had a delicious meal.”

17. Noobai – Rooftop Bar e Restaurante

“Our tour had a scheduled meal at this restaurant. The view is fabulous. The meal planned for the tour group was not safe for our allergies. The manager allowed us to choose whatever we wanted off the menu and gave us the most beautiful fruit bowl as a substitute dessert (cheesecake with guava purée was the original dessert and looked amazing).”

18. The Mill

“Had gluten-free bread! And alternative milk. Breakfast and coffee were amazing.”

21. Guilty by Olivier, Avenida

“The food was pretty decent and the service was good. However, she spoke a little bit of English so it was difficult to communicate with each other.”

TREAT

1. Vegan Nata Campo de Ourique

“This place has the most delicious pastel de nata! You are not missing out for having this vegan version of the traditional pastel de nata. They don’t compromise on taste! It is delicious! And the lady at the store was very nice, understood our allergies, and gave clear answers that made us feel safe about eating there. My child with allergies was very happy! And so were we! Totally recommend it!”

2. Popbar Portugal

“There is a peanut butter flavor, but I was able to get any sorbet bars fresh from the back. I don’t recommend getting it dipped because the peanut flavor could be dipped in the same thing. Still delicious! The coolest part was the Roman ruins that they uncovered and you can see them under the glass floor!”
