Hi! I’m Lili and I attend the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I’m currently a sophomore and I am majoring in psychology! I am still exploring plans for after graduation. I manage celiac and a sesame allergy and have shared 25 reviews on the Spokin app. Follow me there @liliwags and on Instagram @liliwagshal!

University of Pennsylvania

Penn’s dining halls have clearly labeled allergens (both online and in person) and staff are somewhat helpful in person. They have dietitians you can meet with to go over food options and you are able to get meals directly from the kitchen. In Hill Dining Hall and 1920 Commons (the two main dining halls), there are food station called SimplyOasis which are top 9 allergen free. SimplyOasis offers lunch and dinner. These dining halls also have a “MWG-CI” (made without gluten containing ingredients pantry) which offers packaged bread, bagels, cookies, and more. However, some items are locked and require the chef to open which is often time consuming if you just want to grab something quickly. In these dining halls, I often stuck to the packaged goods, the yogurt station, eggs, or the salad bar. In Houston Hall, a food court style dining hall, the labeling is less clear and the staff is often busy and less knowledgeable about food allergens. There are diary and gluten-free options available however there is often cross contamination in food prep areas. If you have severe allergies, I would not recommend eating in Penn’s dining halls or being selective about your choices.
