ARIZONA
Mahalo Made
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
“This is a Hawaiian shaved ice and ice cream shop! I talked to the owner and everything is homemade. The only ice cream they have is vanilla. There are only four shaved ice syrups, all of which are fruit-based and ice cream is completely nut-free. They could have a nut topping for a seasonal flavor, but this can be totally avoided. You can just do shaved ice and avoid the sweet and condensed milk topping if avoiding dairy. Everything completely safe for nut allergy! It’s also AMAZING!”

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai
Location: Kailua-Kona, Hawaii
“Last week, we spent the week at the beautiful For Seasons – we were so impressed with the way that Concierge Marcia and Executive Chef Richard handled our family’s dietary needs. Prior to our trip, Marcia communicated with me to make sure that all of the food items my daughter needed for the TIP program. SoCal Food Allergy Institute handled all of our dining reservations and confirmed our needs with the staff. Chef Richard worked with his team to make safe, delicious food for us, going above and beyond to help our family. One highlight was enjoying shaved ice at the beach! Freddy’s Pizza
Location: Cicero, Illinois
“This is a great little neighborhood store with hot options and a deli. They also sell Italian ice and gelato. I’ve been eating the Italian ice there for years, it is nut and dairy-free! I wouldn’t risk it with the gelato as they do have flavors with nuts but they keep everything separate and the Italian ice is safe. They are knowledgeable about allergies and have good practices to avoid cross-contamination. I’ve had their pizza a couple times and it’s good, but the thing to go there for is definitely the Italian ice. You get huge portions and it’s so delicious, like mind blowing. Maybe the best in Chicagoland. I love the watermelon flavor the best!”

Miko’s Italian Ice (Irving Park)
Location: Chicago, Illinois
“My son has never dined out or eaten anything not made in our home kitchen, but here is where he can actually have a safe treat and feel special. I admit, I’m still a bit nervous and do ask every time we order, but we are always assured all the flavors are egg, nut, dairy and gluten-free. As mentioned by others, only the chocolate chip flavor might be cross-contaminated with other allergens. They say each flavor has its own scooper as well. They reopen for the season today!”

MASSACHUSETTS
Dairy Twist
Location: Pembroke, Massachusetts
“Dairy Twist is a south shore favorite! They have dairy-free sorbet and Italian Ice. When I mention my allergies, they always use a clean scoop and if I ask for sprinkles, they’ll use a separate sprinkle container, pour the sprinkles into their own cup and dip my sorbet in that so it feels like much less of a cross-contamination risk. Overall, I’ve never really had an issue here and for everyone who isn’t dairy-free—they have TONS of fun flavors. Super easy to get overwhelmed here. Update: soft serve and sugar cones are nut-free!”

NEW YORK

Location: Brooklyn, New York
“L&B’s is a STAPLE in my family when we are in Brooklyn! L&B has everything from traditional Italian pizza, gelato, ice cream, Italian ice to a full kitchen with heroes and classic Italian dishes. They have always been so vigilant and proactive whenever I mention my allergies. They cook in vegetable oil so I can safely have all the eggplant or shrimp Parmesan heroes. For Italian ice and gelato, they clean the spoon and get a new tub of your desired flavor from the back as well as a new and clean cup or container to put your Italian ice in. The pizzeria area is 100% peanut and tree nut-free! You definitely have to try their traditional Sicilian slice when you are there! This is a great place for anyone and everyone especially if someone in your party wants different things for lunch and all. It is all delicious and in one place.”
