JetBlue Airways

1. JetBlue Airways

“You can note a food allergy when booking a ticket, after boarding they’ll make an announcement to your seating area to please refrain from eating the allergen! I’ve even had flight attendants check on me before and after takeoff to see if I was comfortable with my area! They’re the best!”

Alaska Airlines

5. Alaska Airlines

“I have never flown with Alaskan before and it was incredible. I went to the gate agent to ask about pre-boarding and they were very kind and understanding. The flight attendants were also very kind and understanding. When I sat down, the flight attendant came to me and asked about my allergies and what she could do. They did make an announcement and asked the people around me to not eat peanuts and tree nuts. I also asked for a buffer zone and they said it was no issue. Great experience and I would fly with them again.”

Air Canada

6. Air Canada

“We flew Toronto Athens Toronto with my adult daughter with pn/tn/ss allergies. I made it a point to call their MEDA desk and document our reservation record with the food allergy information. This is a must if you want AC to follow through correctly on the day of travel. And follow through they did perfectly by allowing us to pre-board to wipe down seats & by showing PRE clearly on our boarding passes and making an announcement to the rows in front and back of our seats to create a buffer zone. Staff were kind and accommodating in both directions at check in and on the flights. The cabin crew even asked if we had Epipens and knew where they were located. And of course, we carried our own safe food both ways. She only had canned soda like Coke and Sprite offered during beverage service. No nut snacks were served on the flights.”

Icelandair

7. Icelandair

“Booked airline tickets through IcelandAir today and was able to notate my peanut allergy when booking! This is the first airline I’ve seen this on and I’d love to see more follow suit! I did notice every single meal item that you could pre-purchase had something I was allergic to in it (either nuts, sesame, shellfish, or mustard), but luckily they are labeled and now I know to bring my own food. I flew with this airline years ago and don’t remember anything negative. Hopefully this trip will be great too!

Update after my trip: I did see some type of nuts (not peanuts, which are life threatening for me) in the crevices on the floor. I asked a flight attendant to clean it up since I had paid extra for that seat and she happily obliged. They also made two announcements on the plane about my allergy asking people to refrain from eating peanuts during the flight. Non-allergy related: I also got motion sick and two flight attendants took good care of me and made me comfortable until I was ready to return to my seat. I was impressed.”

EasyJet

8. EasyJet

“Flew with EasyJet from Athens to Naples. They had a specific spot on their website for marking down allergies while buying the tickets. When we dropped our bags at check-in, agent was verifying how bad the allergy was. Talked to flight attendant at the gate for boarding and they were aware of the peanut allergy and asked if I preferred to have the flight nut-free, which I took. They made multiple announcements on the plane in different languages when boarding and right before take off. Very helpful staff.”

Virgin Atlantic

9. Virgin Atlantic

“Wonderful airline for nut allergies. We flew them from London Heathrow to LAX and I know international routes can be better with allergy labeling than domestic, but this was a great experience from start to finish. They allowed us to pre-board and the flight attendants were so gracious and helpful with navigating allergens. All food items are listed along with all possible allergens and the flight attendant reviewed it with me several times before each meal. They also didn’t serve any snacks containing nuts. They had one person order a Halal meal containing cashew and pistachio, so they heated my kids’ meals in a different oven than that meal even though they were covered dishes and they were served before the rest of the cabin. Definitely recommend, but we always exercise caution around unpackaged desserts even when provided with flight allergy information.”
