“Update: we ordered in and my daughter safely had a veggie burrito. I really like the food and menu and noticed their ingredients listed on door dash!
Very impressed with this place! Casual and hip. We did NOT eat here with our allergy daughter but wanted to share that they had so many vegan (dairy-free) options including vegan queso and vegan nachos. My allergic daughter likes to eat vegan often so I asked what the cheese was made of thinking it would be nuts—it is oat milk and coconut-based (safe for my daughter) and has potatoes. We can’t wait to bring her back!”

This was seriously the best place I ate at in D.C.! This is a “farm to table” completely vegetarian taco restaurant that is also 100% free of gluten and nuts! All the tacos except one (the potato and kale taco) can be made vegan! Their allergen statement on their website is also so clear! “This is such a great place to eat with a gluten, dairy, or egg allergy! The app and online menu allow you to filter by dietary restriction and you can find dairy-free, vegan, and gluten-free options easily with a touch of the button. When we still had concerns about a couple of menu items, they pulled out the full ingredient list for us and were super knowledgeable about the items. Gracias Madre

Location: West Hollywood, California

“Hands down, the best allergy experience we have EVER had. This is a plant-based place that we have wanted to try forever but because they have cashews on the menu we have avoided until now BUT we saw several good reviews on Spokin so we gave it a try. For starters, the first thing our server asked was if anyone had food allergies, then he went through each of my daughter’s allergies. They are 100% peanut-free and talked through each of her tree nuts, then she shared what she wanted and the waiter brought out an allergy binder you can scan for a full allergy menu that is the most detailed I have ever seen. He even checked every item that the table ordered in case she wanted to try!”

They have gluten-free bread from Mariposa Bakery (gluten-free and nut-free), and will make your sandwich with separate knives, spreads, and surfaces if you mention an allergy. They also offer vegan cheese. Delicious food, moderately safe for allergies.”

@emsnutfreeeats, who manages peanut, tree nut, and celiac gluten allergies

They label menu items that contain peanuts (only a couple), but when I explained to the waitress the extent of the allergy, she showed me a laminated chart they use that listed every dish, all the allergens it could contain, and how it could be modified to potentially eliminate them. So impressed and the food was great! No items containing nuts on the kids menu.”

The entire restaurant is peanut/tree nut-free, but the burger buns are “made in a facility”. The chef was more than happy to prepare my meal himself (everytime) in a clean prep area, new gloves, and even a new batch of fries! I got the bacon cheeseburger on a lettuce wrap (he even got me toppings from the back). Amazing experience!”

@lindseymroper, who manages peanut, tree nut, fruit, and vegetable allergies

Galactic Grill

Location: Anaheim, California

“So many peanut allergy-friendly options here—mac and cheese, burgers, fries, chicken sandwich and nuggets—just let them know at the window! They also have their menu and allergy options online for pre-decision making help. We have had a great experience with my son’s anaphylactic peanut and shellfish allergies, as well as my husband’s gluten intolerance. “Cosmic Ray’s now has a dedicated allergy kitchen and allergy chefs where they are trained on cross contamination and they change gloves…the whole shebang! You tell them you have an allergy at the order station and they call someone over to assist you and go through the allergy binder with you. I’m allergic to shellfish/fish and they don’t have any kind of seafood food items here so I was good to order from the regular menu. My peanut/tree nut-allergic son was able to order off the regular menu also. The only nuts they have are Uncrustables they sell. My son with peanut, tree nut, egg, dairy, and tomato allergies ordered chicken nuggets and French fries.”

Liberty Tree Tavern

Location: Orlando, Florida

“They had an extensive menu for the top 8 allergies with so many options to choose from. When ordering, they want to be very careful and correct with your allergies so they use a pink slip stamped with “allergies”. If you have 2 or more, the chef visits the table. All they want is you to be happy and enjoy your food. The chef went out of her way to make mashed potatoes with olive oil for me because she typically uses Earth Balance (which has pea protein in it). The plate comes to the table with an allergy stick in it. I felt so safe, I would absolutely go back.”

You can pre-order food online before your trip, and the online menu allows you to filter by allergens. Allergy food comes out separately and with little allergy flags. Tonight we called to do “call ahead seating” and again mentioned the food allergy and he said “Oh hi, I spoke to you yesterday! Yep, we’re ready for you”. Upon being seated, he came right over to the table with an entire binder that showed everything on their menu and had a whole chart for food allergies! I was so impressed. He also checked in with us multiple times! My daughter loved her meal and I loved the amazing service!”

“Great food with lots of options for everyone! The manager stated they don’t use any nuts in their restaurant, not even in their horchata. I didn’t try it, because you never know, but I did get Dole soft serve ice cream (yay no scoops!) When I contacted their Facebook page about allergen info to verify, they also told me they don’t use nuts in their restaurant, but they strangely sent me a guide for what to eat if I am dairy-free or vegan. Helpful if you fall within that category, but a little concerning when you ask about nuts. With that being said, I think this is a great place for people with all kinds of allergens or food restrictions.”

Friedman’s

Location: New York, New York

“Friedman’s restaurant offers a gluten-free menu with many locations in NYC. When the owner, who has celiac disease, originally opened the restaurant she wanted to create a safe place for people with celiac to eat and enjoy delicious food. When I visited the location in Herald Square I asked about the menu and they said everything is gluten-free except for one of their soups. I told the server I had celiac and my food came out with an allergy flag as well. I ordered the chicken and waffles!”

@gflivingbk, who manages a celiac-gluten allergy

Asuka

Location: West Chester, Pennsylvania

“Asuka has a HUGE gluten-free menu that features a lot of items that are hard to find gluten-free. We have ordered from here twice, and both times had a good experience. I reiterated many times that I had an allergy, and I always ask them to package my siblings’ food that contains gluten separately. My boxes of food are always labeled gluten-free (except the sushi, which I assume is made by a different person) and my receipt always says “Gluten allergy” on it. I love the General Tso’s chicken, the Hawaiian fried rice, and the spicy shrimp!”

Our order has been correct and they’ve been accommodating to our allergy requests, too.”

TEXAS

Picnik

“Obsessed with Picnik! Dedicated peanut-free and gluten-free restaurant with a huge menu and many healthy and allergy-friendly options! Their allergen menu is AMAZING! It lists every ingredient, potential cross contamination, what allergens it contains and it’s available on their website so I could scan ahead of time! There were definitely more nut-free options on the weekend brunch menu than the weekday lunch/dinner one, so I would recommend going for brunch if you have nut allergies! They had vegan options too! Honestly a great spot for any food allergies!”

“This restaurant was very willing to work with our food allergies. They confirmed they don’t use any peanuts or tree nuts, and were able to check and make sure there was no sesame and sunflower. They could make kids’ meals with no dairy and eggs. They also have a gluten-sensitive menu. They note which sauces contain gluten and substitutes for those sauces. The waitress came back to double check and told us the flour tortillas have eggs so we were able to change to corn. Only place we’ve felt safe eating out with our multiple food-allergy child.”

VIRGINIA

Massanutten Resort

Location: McGaheysville, Virginia

“I called one of their on-site restaurants today to find out if our daughter would be able to eat there. The person who answered the phone was able to answer my basic questions as they have an allergen menu readily available there. When I asked about the fryer, she readily suggested she get the manager so that she wouldn’t steer me wrong. The manager went through everything again, answered my fryer question, suggested roasting marshmallows for dessert, and told me to let the server know so that they tell those in the kitchen who then know to wash hands and/or change gloves. I was beyond impressed and said they will for sure see us.”

Tio Pablo

Location: Richmond, Virginia

“Tio Pablo is 100% gluten-free, food-wise (they do serve some beers that are not gluten-free, but have a great menu for margaritas and other drinks that are gluten-free). Because of that, it’s obviously “somewhat” of a shared space, so be mindful if you decide to eat in the bar area. Staff is very knowledgeable and the menu is clearly labeled with items that contain allergens other than gluten, such as dairy. We loved our tacos and margaritas.”

Portage Bay Cafe – South Lake Union

Location: Seattle, Washington

“One of the top 10 restaurants I’ve ever been to! They have the most thorough allergy binder I’ve ever seen—it lists every ingredient, may contain warnings, and highlights which of the top 8 allergens the dish contains! They’re a dedicated peanut-free restaurant (they don’t even let you bring outside food!) with a ton of gluten-free and nut-free options and clarify all your food allergies thoroughly before writing them down for the kitchen. They don’t use any nut milks, so I was safely able to have coffee and their gluten-free bread is made from scratch! The gluten-free french toast and classic breakfast sandwich were both SO good! Also, they use allergy sticks on any dish you order!”

WASHINGTON D.C.

Chaia Tacos

Location: Multiple Locations

Dedicated Free Of: Peanut, Tree Nuts, Soy, Fish, Shellfish, Wheat, Gluten, Mustard

Other Allergens They Can Accommodate: Milk, Egg, Corn, Potato, Legumes

“There was a place in the online ordering system to disclose food allergies and I just found out one of the owners manages a nut allergy in the family, so it makes sense how they totally understand food allergies! This was seriously the best place I ate at in D.C.! This is a “farm to table” completely vegetarian taco restaurant that is also 100% free of gluten and nuts! All the tacos except one (the potato and kale taco) can be made vegan! Their allergen statement on their website is also so clear! The menu rotates seasonally, but they always clearly label which tacos can be made vegan!”

@emsnutfreeeats, who manages peanut, tree nut, and celiac-gluten allergies

The Hamilton

Location: Washington, D.C.

“The Hamilton is part of the Clyde’s restaurant group which has a group of restaurants throughout DC that all have an allergy policy! I had such a great experience at the Hamilton with my nut and gluten allergies! The menu is clearly labeled with GF symbols, so it’s easy to tell what is gluten-free. They don’t have a ton of gluten-free options because they now have a limited menu (no gluten-free pasta anymore), but they do have gluten-free bread for burgers and sandwiches. They also have a full sushi menu, and apparently the sushi is made in a separate kitchen! Our waiter came to our table after I had ordered to confirm that he checked with the chef and what I ordered was safe! When my meal came, they also restated my allergies to confirm!”

@emsnutfreeeats, who manages peanut, tree nut, and celiac-gluten allergies

&pizza

Location: Washington, D.C.

“Seriously some of the best gluten-free pizza in DC! They have a super thorough allergen chart and ingredient list on their website. The menu is completely nut-free! The vegan cheese and buffalo sauce both contain coconut oil, and I was super impressed that this was noted on the menu! If you order a gluten-free pizza, they will ask if you want a glove change and will put a mat under your pizza to prevent cross-contact! The pizza was safe and so good!”

@emsnutfreeeats, who manages peanut, tree nut, and celiac-gluten allergies

CAVA

Location: Washington, D.C.

“CAVA has an allergen menu that clearly says they don’t use peanuts, tree nuts, or eggs in their food! (Peanuts are anaphylactic for me). Have to be careful to avoid all legumes (less severe allergies for me) but ordering online makes it less stressful and easier to see what’s in each item, plus they say to email them with any allergen questions if needed. Will definitely be coming back here again!”

@sabudama, who manages peanut, tree nut, and legume allergies

Daikaya- Ramen (1F) – Izakaya (2F)

Location: Washington, D.C.

“This place was AMAZING! They brought an allergen menu that listed peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, dairy, etc. and listed the dishes that contained the allergens. Our server then crossed off what wasn’t safe for my daughter and shared that one of the chefs had a peanut allergy. Could not recommend this place more. Food was delish and one of the best allergy experiences we’ve ever had. Our server, Lucas, was phenomenal and he said both of his brothers were allergic to peanuts. Second visit was another great experience and this time they actually had additional menus including vegan and gluten-free!”

Monk’s Bar + Grill – at the Wilderness

Fork + Tap

Location: Port Washington, Wisconsin

“Cute waterfront casual and family-friendly spot with a surprisingly helpful menu. Vegan and gluten-free items were noted and there was a note that there are peanuts in the kitchen—because it is in 1 dish which we just appreciated to see. Seeing vegan options called out in Wisconsin felt pretty rare, too. We shared a few appetizers including a funnel cake mozzarella sticks that were gluten-free, nachos, and pretzels with cheese dip, and my daughter had a Reuben sandwich with fries (they use soy oil)—our waitress had a tree nut allergy and we felt like we were in very good hands!”
