Maine

Empire Chinese Kitchen
Location: Portland, Maine
“Har gow and green beans are a must!! So many gluten-free options on the menu, and they are very careful. Kind of expensive for the portions though, and the pork dumplings weren’t great. No issues with nuts.”

Lilli and Loo
Location: New York, New York
“I would eat here every day if I could. They have an entire gluten-free menu and are amazing. The dumplings are THE BEST. They are so delicious. Only wish they offered veggie dumplings or different fillings.”

Dynasty Dim Sum
Location: New York, New York
“I ate here with my daughter and granddaughters expecting to only eat a bowl of white rice. The excellent wait staff wouldn’t hear of it! He knew exactly what oils they used, how they prepped and could cook each dish and assured me that they could prepare with all my allergies in mind! It was amazing! I had organic chicken sautéed in canola oil, steamed broccoli and fluffy white rice. I also had a steaming pot of jasmine green tea! Delicious!!”

Texas

Xian Sushi and Noodle
Location: Austin, Texas
“Gluten-free dumplings! This is one of my fave restaurants. I get the har gow, veggie dumplings, and gluten free noodles with Tom yum soup. Although I am celiac and VERY sensitive and haven’t gotten sick, I think there’s still a risk of cross contamination here. They are making so many noodles/dumplings so there’s a lot of flour present.”

Washington

Din Tai Fung
Location: Seattle, Washington
“Limited but delicious gluten-free options: fried rice, soy noodles, and vegetables. Peanuts only come with a few dishes; they are very aware and will list any allergies you have on the order.”

Riz on Yonge Restaurant
Location: Toronto, Canada
I can’t say enough good things about Riz. The owner isn’t gluten-free herself, but found herself in the business of cooking celiac-safe Chinese and pan-Asian food. The entire restaurant is 100% gluten-free and the owner, knowing what these dishes should taste like, is able to recreate them gluten-free only offering them on the menu when they taste as they should.
Some of the menu highlights: dim sum, peking duck (with pancakes!), crispy beef, ramen, gyoza… I could go on and on. I’ve heard they now offer gluten-free bao buns, too.
Do note: this location pin is a bit out of date and the restaurant is now located at 3471 Yonge. It’s the same team and the same protocols.”

chez ann
Location: Paris, France
“This may be my favorite place in Paris. This is an incredible dim sum restaurant with so many gluten-free dumplings. They even accommodated my soy allergy which can be tough. The owner’s mom (the chef) has celiac disease so I felt very safe.”

Hong Kong

Hoi King Heen
Location: Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong
“This restaurant is a great option to have in HK, otherwise a city that can be tough for safe gluten-free options. There is a limited menu of gluten-free options, but the team confirmed they could make some other options on the menu gluten-free on request.
I was there for the dim sum and didn’t mind the limited menu… their three options did NOT disappoint. My gluten eating partner got fried rice (gluten containing) that he said was just okay.
The restaurant staff seemed well trained and were very understanding on gluten free needs – I felt confident in this restaurant to deliver a safe experience.”

Japan

KYOTO ENGINE RAMEN
Location: Kyoto, Japan
“Love this place!! Their menu has very clearly marked gluten-free and vegan options, but they also have regular ramen and both pork and chicken options to go in the ramen. When you tell them you are gluten free they take it seriously, put a gluten-free card in front of you and tell you your meal is gluten-free when they bring it out—love this! Ramen is delish but my favorite part was their dumpling soup! It was incredible – don’t skip out on this one!! They also have gluten-free beer, which I thought was great. Also located in Osaka!”

OSAKA ENGINE RAMEN
Location: Osaka, Japan
“Love Engine Ramen! We also visited in Kyoto—Osaka’s Engine is bigger, very similar menu but they have regular dumplings (gyoza) instead of dumpling soup. Dumplings were delish, highly recommend! Also had their ramen here and the black miso one is the best!! So much flavor. We loved their ramen when having it in Kyoto too, and gluten-free beer is also great”

Spain

Out of China
Location: Barcelona, Spain
“Amazing gluten-free options. Their dumplings are amazing, the staff is so kind, and all the food was wonderful. Be aware, they have a tiny amount of vegetable oil (soy) in the dumpling dough batter, but after talking through it with them I decided to have them regardless and I was fine (normally I have instant reactions to soy, but use your own caution). Loved this place!”

United Kingdom

Ugly Dumpling
Location: London, United Kingdom
“Soho location: Upon asking about celiac safety, We were greeted by the owner who explained kitchen and serving protocol and made us feel comfortable. Absolutely delicious! Terrific selection of dumpling flavors. Our favorites: chicken satay, prawn, and pulled pork. Gluten-free lunch meal deal twice a week: Monday and Tuesday is a good value—dumplings come with choice of sides: cucumber salad was super fresh. Plated clearly. Even sauces come in separate sized dishes to avoid confusion. Owner was training our brand new waiter how to understand and communicate the restaurant’s gluten-free protocol.”
