Sushi & Pokebowl Ryukyu

Sushi & Pokebowl Ryukyu

Location: Chatan, Japan

“We safely order french fries, cheese sticks, and rice for our kiddo with food allergies (Anaphylactic to sesame, tree nuts, lentils, and OIT for peanuts)! Sesame is almost completely unavoidable here in Okinawa, so it is present at this restaurant. But when we want a meal out, we fill up his belly at home, and then he gets to enjoy the fun deep-fried sides and rice at the restaurant! We have consistently safely ordered those 3 items multiple times. There is a small kids’ play area, too, which we love!”

7-Eleven

Location: Chuo City, Japan

“Unlike in the US, this is a great spot for quick meals and snacks. You can even buy sushi here! Allergens are marked in English for hot food items, and we used Google Translate for labels. 7-Elevens are found all over Tokyo, also!”

Toyosu Market

“Fish market with eateries and shops! If you like sushi for breakfast, this is for you! Everything opens later in Japan, but the fish markets are early! Check allergens before eating!”

Sushi Shirakawa

Location: Koto City, Japan

“A very quaint restaurant, less than two minutes from the station, it had a variety of fresh sushi and delicious miso soup. We each purchased the smaller lunch set, which came with 14 pieces of sushi, green tea, and miso soup for about $7 USD. Showing the chefs my allergy card, they assured me everything would be safe to eat.”

Otsuna Sushi

Location: Minato City, Japan

“Was so relieved to come across allergytravelr’s review of Otsuna Sushi after I went down a Reddit rabbit hole of hidden allergens in some soy sauce, teriyaki, and udon around Japan.

Otsuna Sushi was an incredible restaurant with beautiful decor and ambience. They were established over 130 years ago and boast some of the most famous inari in Japan! And once you try them, there’s no question why. The texture and flavouring are so special—the hostess assured us there were no nuts in the restaurant, and this was a wonderful experience—for 12 pieces, hot green tea, and soup, we paid about $13 USD.”

Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera

Location: Shibuya, Japan

“This was hands down my favorite place I ate at in Tokyo! All of the sushi is really high quality, well-priced, delicious, and allergy-friendly. They have a really helpful allergy menu, although it does follow Japanese allergy labeling standards. I did not see anything on the menu with nuts.”

Cooking Sun Tokyo

Cooking Sun Tokyo

Location: Shinjuku City, Japan

“Cooking Sun teaches cooking classes. I emailed them prior to our trip to make sure they don’t use any nuts, and they asked if sesame was okay and assured us that no nuts are used there. We took a 3-hour sushi-making class. Our family was with four others, and they asked the group about any food allergies again, so something they take seriously. This was one of our favorite activities, and they couldn’t be nicer there. Totally recommend!”

Mino Sushi

Mino Sushi

Location: Taito City, Japan

“We were the only customers in this tiny sushi shop for chef’s choice omakase before we went to the Tokyo Dome for a baseball game. The chef prepared the nigiri right in front of us and understood my allergies with no problem. So delicious!”
