Location: Gilbert, Arizona
“This is Gilbert’s first dedicated gluten-free bakery and matcha cafe. Everything is 100% gluten, dairy, and refined sugar-free! I have fallen in love with everything I’ve tried so far (cinnamon roll, blueberry buckle cake, vegan cookies, and my FAV, the avocado toast).”

The Courtyard Kitchen
Location: Santa Monica, California
“Courtyard Kitchen is a cute restaurant in Santa Monica with a statement on the menu to inform of allergies. Over phone call and in person, they told me that they do not use any peanuts. For anyone allergic to tree nuts, there are tree nuts in some dishes, and pine nuts in the pesto. I got the huevos rancheros and a matcha latte with oat milk, and it was very good.”

Coupa Cafe – GSB
Location: Stanford, California
“They were really great here! My mom and I just got drinks, but they were safe for me. This chain on campus is great. Also, this was one of the only coffee shops I have ever been to where I could have EVERY SINGLE one of the smoothies! With all of my fruit allergies and hatred of bananas, this is usually really hard for me, but all of the smoothie choices were safe and so good. I had the matcha and mango smoothie, and it was so yummy! Could not recommend more if you are ever touring campus.”

Two Cities Coffee Roasters
Location: Clovis, California
“We’ve been coming to Two Cities for years—this is our spot when we’re back home. It’s become part of our routine, and the boys have been ordering drinks here forever.
What really sets this place apart is the care they put into everything. They always take the extra time to make sure everything is right, and that means a lot to us. It’s a family-run shop, and you can feel that—they’re always there, welcoming you with open arms.
The iced matcha is one of our favorites. You can tell they’re using high-quality matcha—it’s smooth, rich, and just delicious.
If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. This place truly feels like home.”

Gremlin Garage
Location: Costa Mesa, California
“You’ll find the best matcha at Gremlin Garage! Tucked away between a bunch of auto shops, this place is a true hidden gem. The vibe is super cool—kind of industrial, but cozy at the same time.
What really impressed me is how much care they take with allergies. They made sure there was no cross-contamination, so my boys could safely enjoy their drinks. It’s not easy to find a place that takes that kind of extra step, and I really appreciated it.
Bonus: if you answer their riddle, you unlock a secret menu—how fun is that?
Definitely worth seeking out if you’re a matcha fan or just want a unique spot for a drink.”

Rikka Fika
Location: San Diego, California
“I personally liked that they didn’t use many nuts. When I visited this cafe, they only had one item that used almonds. And they also didn’t use nut milks, which was great! For me, almonds are not really an issue, which is why I was much less hesitant about ordering pastry items here. I did ask the staff what nuts they use on site, and she said just almonds. She was nice about it and already knew the answer, which was great. They have a little sign up about allergens. And I’m sure some of the pastries are different throughout the year, so to be safe, ask, and only if you’re comfortable, give it a try.
When I visited, I ordered a brown sugar croffle and a Kyoto matcha latte. Both were great!”

MEMORYLOOK
Location: Los Angeles, California
“I didn’t get any food items here, so I’m not sure about their pastries/food, but I did have their matcha einspanner, which was pretty good. For their drinks, I believe they only offer oat milk and regular milk, which was nice since I didn’t have to worry about cashew milk. If you plan to come here, as always, just ask about your particular allergy just to be safe! Overall, it was a nice cafe.”

Cafe Gratitude
Location: Los Angeles, California
“I got the breakfast burrito, matcha latte, and eggplant parm sandwich, and everything was amazing! It’s a fully vegan restaurant with tons of gluten-free options and some options for nut and soy allergies as well. There are healthier options as well as more indulgent ones, which I love. A little on the pricey side, but I enjoyed myself and felt safe there! Something to be aware of is that with their new ordering system, you order on your phone and don’t speak with a server until you receive your food, so I would either call ahead or speak with the staff right when you walk in if you have allergies/concerns about cross-contamination with nuts and soy.”

Wood Coffee Co.
Location: Long Beach, California
“What an amazing find—a fully vegan coffee shop in Long Beach! They offer delicious drinks, in addition to a seasonal menu, and vegan pastries from local bakeries using oat, soy, pistachio, and almond milks. The staff was so kind and welcoming, and the space is adorable. I love that they are a queer space and LGBTQ+ affirming as well! I got the Oh My Gourd (which was a pumpkin spice matcha latte) and was OBSESSED! Highly recommend for those who cannot go to traditional coffee shops because of cross-contamination with dairy.
Updating to share this spot again! My favorite coffee shop of all time. They always have delicious seasonal drinks and their matchas are my fav!”

Blue Butterfly Coffee
Location: El Segundo, California
“Located near LAX, this cafe has the best specialty coffee flavors I’ve ever had! The staff understands food allergies and will let you know what items are safe for the specific food allergies you have. (Unfortunately, none of the bakery items are safe for me, but I’m really there for coffee anyway!) My favorite drink is their iced lavender matcha with oat milk! It’s sweet and magical! Highly recommend this shop!”

Third Culture Bakery Walnut Creek
Location: Walnut Creek, California
“Truly one of my favorite tea and donut spots. My favorite drink is the strawberry lychee matcha latte, although all of them are good. In the past, they offered dairy, soy (Silk), and oat milk (Califia Farms). Since the renovation, they now offer almond milk (Silk) in addition to dairy, soy (Kirkland), and oat (Silk). If you have an almond allergy, please be aware of this change!”

Maruwu Seicha – Palo Alto
Location: Palo Alto, California
“So excited to finally try Maruwu Seicha! An award-winning tea refinery that has now opened 2 locations in the Bay Area (San Francisco and Stanford), Maruwu is an incredible spot for sweet treats. As other reviews have said, the matcha is pretty bitter, but it’s not overly tart. I had the Oatly Matcha Latte with Okinawa Boba at 50% sugar. We arrived around 2PM, and the matcha tarts were already sold out, so make sure you get there early if you’re hoping to get one! They had taro (purple), strawberry (pink, limited edition), and cheese (beige) left, which were all really tasty.
Allergy-wise: no nuts except pistachios.
There are pistachio sprinkles for the soft serve ice creams, gelatos, and drinks.”

Location: Los Angeles, California
“In our search for the best matcha, we stopped at Community Goods. I shouldn’t say “stopped at” since we waited in line for an hour :), but wanted to see what the rage was about! It was really great—my daughter got an iced strawberry matcha latte and I got regular. Both were great! We got oat milk. It is definitely busy, so if you have an allergy to dairy or almond milk, I’d proceed with caution or at least make it very clear, as there’s a lot of action there and it’s fast-paced in preparation.”

“We ordered iced matcha lattes—they do serve oat and almond milk here—we told them about our nut allergy and they marked our cups in Sharpie. What’s nice is the counter area is very open, so you can see them pour the milk—it made me more at ease to see what was going into our drinks (unlike some other coffee places). They also sell matcha iced tea in a can if all types of milk are not an option. The outdoor seating area is cute too for pics!”

Tatte Bakery & Cafe | West End
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
“Another amazing visit to Tatte! My daughter had the coconut meringue cloud and an iced matcha! My daughter is a regular at this place, and there are several locations in DC (we actually first discovered it in Boston)—it’s casual and you can get food, sweets, coffee/matcha etc. They most definitely have nuts, so not for everyone, but they are very educated on what is in everything, and they have great clear menus. She safely had a tomato nut-free pesto and a mini cheesecake. All good! I ordered from the gluten-friendly menu (assume not safe for celiac which I don’t have, just avoid gluten when I can), and I had the avocado tartine (without the egg) and a gluten-free oatmeal cookie that has walnuts (which my daughter is not allergic to) and I was so glad to see it labeled!”

maman
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
“Very cute spot for breakfast or brunch, and the menu has many allergens listed, including nuts—which we rarely see. My daughter had the Papa’s breakfast bowl and a matcha latte. All was safe. They did have sweets on the back, on the menu that didn’t have the same menu icons, however. Definitely had nuts on the menu, including their famous “nutty chocolate chip cookies” that were on Oprah’s favorite things list, and when I Googled, I saw that the recipe was online and it had macadamia nuts, almonds and walnuts (none of my daughter’s allergies but we still didn’t get). I’d recommend for a cute ambiance and good location on a fun street in Georgetown. Coffee was good and food was pretty good, although we are the type to want to try new places, so unlikely to go back mostly for that reason.”

We came here because we saw them listed as one of the best spots to get egg sandwiches, and my daughter got the egg sandwich with sausage and iced milk matcha. They were knowledgeable and they said they do have some nuts, but not in anything we ordered, and they noted it to the kitchen. Would absolutely go back and would love to try another meal there. We sat outside, but it’s really cute inside too!”

“They have oat milk and soy milk options for their matcha lattes, and if you order a milk alternative, when you grab your drink, you hand in a card that says oat milk!”

Matcha Muchacha – Calle Cerra
Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico
“Visited Matcha Muchacha in San Juan, PR. They serve almond, soy, regular, and oat milk. My kids are ok with almond, so we felt safe…but there are definitely pastries there with nuts, so we did not get dessert. They also had vegan options in the same display case as nuts, etc., so for those that aren’t necessarily allergic, there are a few vegan options. The matcha was amazing, and they really had a lot of choices. We got ours w/oat milk, cinnamon, vanilla and matcha. Loved it!”

OCHOCIELOS
Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico
“Had Matcha lattes here where they put fresh fruit on the bottom. Was amazing! They do have multiple milks. We had oat milk, but they have almond milk there…it’s fine for us, but double check the protocol if it’s not ok for you. We watched them make ours, and the protocol seemed pretty straightforward, but there was a mixer involved. I’d recommend asking not to use the mixer if the milks are not all safe for you. The matcha was a 10/10!”

Ichigo by Tea Cottage
Location: Singapore, Singapore
“Completely nut-free! I tried their signature drink: durian uji matcha latte. It was nice and safe, but overall I think there are definitely other better and cheaper options around the city for tea.”

Mr Coconut @ Orchard Gateway
Location: Singapore, Singapore
“No nuts in the drinks. There are peanut toppings for the ice cream, though, so I don’t feel comfortable getting anything other than their juices and shakes. The Uji matcha 0 sugar coconut shake with pulp is the best!”

HEYTEA @ ION
Location: Singapore, Singapore
“Emailed and confirmed no peanuts 🙂 The drinks are really not that sweet, so I’d suggest increasing your regular sugar level – safely had the jasmine green tea with boba and the matcha supreme with boba and matcha jelly.”

Sweden

Espresso House
Location: Lund, Sweden
“Espresso House is the most common coffee chain throughout Sweden. Their website has ingredient information for their entire menu, but it is only available in Swedish! Alternatice milk options include soy, coconut, and oat. I loved their matcha latte, but the matcha powder they use contains coconut milk!”

Blank Street Coffee
Location: Edinburgh, Scotland
“My first time ordering at a cafe! This was huge for me because I’m usually worried about cross-contamination at cafes. I ordered the blueberry matcha! Their default milk is oat milk, and they whipped out an allergy booklet for me to look at and read the ingredients for everything! I was surprised they made me sign something to acknowledge that I had read the ingredients and had to write my allergens down—I’ve never seen that done before. They used clean utensils to make my drink and asked about whether I wanted them to do so—so they’re very proactive and helpful with accommodating my allergies!”

Whisk by JENKI Matcha, Borough Market
Location: London, England
“If I could, I would have tried everything on the menu. They had a bunch of different matcha lattes with different flavors, matcha soft serve, and MORE. I just got a classic matcha latte, and it was delightful. Definitely a good sign when a store is good at what they’re known for making!”

WA Cafe (Covent Garden)
Location: London, England
“WA Japanese Patisserie is a gem in Central London. They have a great selection of Japanese bakes, and many are clearly marked gluten-free. The team is knowledgeable and takes allergies seriously, which made me feel really confident ordering.
Their matcha is fantastic, and the overall vibe of the shop is calm, clean, and welcoming. It’s perfect for a quiet treat or catch-up with a friend. Japanese-style baked goods can be really tough to find gluten-free, so this place is a rare and very appreciated find. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in London and craving something a little different but still safe to enjoy.”

The Good Life Eatery
Location: London, England
This is one of my favorite spots for a coffee and treat in London. It’s not dedicated gluten-free, but has a good selection of baked goods (like gluten-free blueberry muffins that I love) and cafe items too. The staff have always been super helpful in taking precautions, too.
The coffee they make is really nice, too. Iced matcha is 100% the drink of the summer, and these guys do a really good job with it.
There are a few locations across London (St. John’s Wood and Marylebone), so this is a convenient spot for a quick treat.”
