“The staff at Apachi Skokie (Mayer Kaplan) JCC is fantastic about food allergies. My 7 year old had his first real 8 week day camp experience and I felt confident from our first meeting pre-camp. My son is severely allergic to dairy…and despite the fact that they are Kosher and ask families to bring dairy lunches (no meat), they fully accommodated us every step of the way. It all comes down to the staff and they won me over day one. We’ll be back next year without a doubt.

“We love the flexibility of this camp in terms of schedule and activities offered. The food provided is nut-free and campers are discouraged from bringing their own food. There is a clear statement on the website that any food brought from home must be nut-free. Medications are stored at the HQ area and my daughter’s allergy is coded on her badge with a colored sticker. Staff has been very supportive and accommodating. It’s my understanding that they are all trained in first aid, including epi-pen administration.”

The group was small and all of the counselors knew who she was and what she could and could not have.”

“The instructors here are very thoughtful. They do amazing 3 hour camps in the summer and during winter break. There’s a snack time during these. I’m able to call and find out what the snack is or stop in and read the label. I can then tell them if she can have the snack or that we will provide one. They also do a great job of keeping things clean and wiping down equipment often. Hands are also cleaned.
