Nut, Sesame, and Sunflower-Free London Travel Itinerary

Hi! I’m Saira, I manage a sunflower allergy, and I went to London with my mom, dad, and sister who manages peanut, tree nut, and sesame allergies for summer vacation! A highlight of my trip was seeing Mamma Mia at the West End and visiting Notting Hill! My favorite restaurant was Côte, where I ate steak frites! Day 1

Dinner: Pizza Express

“Pizza express was a staple for us in London! We ate at 3 different locations — Camden/Primrose Hill, Oxford, and Chelsea. Each time we ate there, the staff asked about allergies right away and wrote them down after showing them our Equal Eats allergen card. At the Oxford location they were so careful about our allergies that the waitress even double checked the oil with the chef. Their pizza is delicious and I highly recommend!”

Day 2

Dinner: Hobson’s Fish and Chips

“Hobson’s has a helpful allergen menu which we referred to before we went. We tried to email them prior to eating there but didn’t get a response. There was a miscommunication about our allergies with the waitress but we gave her our Equal Eats card she double checked it with the chef— she confirmed that the chips were battered in rice flour and fried in rapeseed oil which was safe for our family. The fish and chips were very good!”

Sightseeing: Big Ben & London Eye

Day 3

Lunch: Zizzi

“We found this recommendation from Spokin. When we walked in, the server immediately asked about our allergies. We showed her our Equal Eats card, and she noted every allergen in her app (including flour and nut oils) and confirmed that the Margherita pizza was safe. The pizza was yummy, and it was a nice air-conditioned restaurant to cool off in after a hot day of sightseeing!”

Sightseeing: Tower of London & Saint Paul’s Cathedral

Day 4

Lunch: Caldesi

“Caldesi was amazing with our allergies! It is an upscale/fine dining restaurant. We emailed them ahead of time since it is better to make a reservation when eating there. We picked out what we wanted to eat and they told us that they could accommodate us but asked that we acknowledge other allergens in their restaurant and that they can’t guarantee their food is 100% allergy free. Despite this, we still felt safe eating there. The menu has limited nuts that are found in some of their salads and dessert. When we first walked in, the host remembered from our reservation that my sister had allergies. The waiter also knew about our allergies— he took our Equal Eats card to the chef to double check. They were able to make my sister a simple marinara spaghetti and even brought out her meal first. Overall it was a great experience and I highly recommend for a special occasion!”

Sightseeing: Shopping at Selfridges, Buckingham Palace and walking around St. James Park

Day 5

Dinner: Mucci’s

“Mucci’s is a fun Italian restaurant in Chelsea. We emailed the restaurant ahead of time— Andrea (the manager) was amazing. We told her we wanted to eat the margherita pizza and she emailed us right away and confirmed the type of flour used and the type of oil. She was so nice that she even gave us her cell phone number so we could reach out if we had any other questions. When we got to the restaurant, the service was a little bit slow but the staff was nice and when we gave them our Equal Eats card they took it back to the kitchen to confirm everything was okay. The food was delicious and it was the best pizza I had while in London!”

Sightseeing: Shopping on Carnaby & Regent Street in Soho and Build-A-Bears from Hamleys Toy Store

Day 6

Dinner: Cote

“Cote is a special occasion type of restaurant. It is a chain within London— we went to the Covent Garden location since it was across the street from where Mamma Mia was playing and we were going to the show. Based on @theallergytable’s recommendation on Spokin we made reservations and they were very on top of it. The manager emailed us back and cc’ed his entire team saying they could accommodate us. Their allergen menu is very detailed and helpful— they list out each ingredient for each meal. We decided that my sister would have the steak frites. We were with a party of 9 and it was a busy Friday night, but when we first got there the host acknowledged our allergies from the reservation. When the waiter came to take our order, we gave him the Equal Eats card and he also knew about the allergy, even to the point of that he wanted to take my sister’s order last so he would not mess it up. When the food came out, it was flagged which made us feel very safe. The food was delicious and the fries were some of the best I’ve ever had— highly recommend!!”

Sightseeing: Mamma Mia at Novello Theatre in West End
