Gluten-Free Florence Top Picks

Hi! I’m Isabel and I recently studied abroad in Florence, Italy! I was able to find many spots to safely eat with celiac. One of my favorite places to eat was Sgrano where I safely had a Florentine focaccia sandwich! If you travel there, make sure you visit Piazzale Michelangelo for sunset or the rose garden for a picnic! Follow me on Spokin @ijs to see all of my 43 reviews and on Instagram @isabelstraus!

Trattoria 13 Gobbi

Trattoria 13 Gobbi

“13 Gobbi is a classic and delicious spot, best known for its rigatoni. They offer gluten-free pasta, and the staff is knowledgeable about what can and cannot be made gluten-free, which makes dining there very easy and reassuring. The pasta is amazing, even in its gluten-free version, thanks to their incredible sauce. I highly recommend it! Their chicken and steak dishes are also delicious, making it a great option.”

Ristorante Buca Mario

“Staff was a little bit harder to get a sense of what was gluten-free or not. Though was clearly explained that the risotto was fully gluten-free so stuck with that as my dish and was very enjoyable!”

Trattoria 4 Leoni

“Incredible pasta and chicken! Server was very knowledgeable and reassuring about the sauce in the pasta! They have gluten-free pasta!”

Ristorante Mamma Gina

“One of our first meals in Florence they had an array of good gluten-free pasta and knowledgeable staff!”

Volume

“One of our go to Aperitivo places in Florence they always brought gluten-free crackers or chips to eat with the aperitivo.”

Sgrano

“Had the most delicious sandwich! It was a staple for me while studying abroad! It’s a fully gluten-free restaurant in a very popular area with lots of sandwich shops, so if everyone else is getting sandwiches, you can too! The staff is super helpful! Highly recommend!”

Sushiland Florence Garden

“Sushiland was the perfect sushi craving when there isn’t much sushi in Florence. We only ate the sushi burritos! I called ahead of time to make sure all their sauces were gluten-free (their Spicey mayo is!) but aired on the side of caution with not getting any marinated kind of fish. I ate here multiple times and every time felt very safe. They do not have gluten-free soy sauce is the only thing so I had some I bought myself.”

Acqua Al 2

“Aqua Al 2 is amazing! They are known for their blue berry steak, which is normally not gluten-free because of the sauce ingredients. However, the waiter was incredibly kind and told me they could make the sauce completely gluten-free. They even prepared a separate gluten-free version for me, and it was delicious! Everyone at the table said the gluten-free and regular versions tasted exactly the same. They also made the mashed potatoes fully gluten-free, which was a great bonus. They don’t offer gluten-free pasta, but they do have a gluten-free risotto, which was pretty good. That said, if you’re deciding between the two, I would recommend the steak 100%!”

Hostaria da Fulvio

“They had delicious gluten-free pasta! And all their appetizers they could switch to make gluten-free and felt very safe to eat! Delicious and cozy restaurant.”

Lunetta Brunch & Lunch

“The most wonderful people work here! They had gluten-free bread that they could make anything on and always tried to work with you to make sure you were comfortable with your protocol and they understood your allergies!”

Mister Pizza

Mister Pizza

“Mister pizza is one of the only places in Florence with gf pizza! Every box you order had a marked sticker signifying it is fully gluten-free. I only had one experience where something didn’t come marked and I didn’t feel comfortable eating it but I simply returned it and they made me a new one. Not the most authentic pizza, but pretty good for being gluten-free.”

PopCafé

“Also an amazing Aperitivo spot! They have gluten-free options to bring with the Aperitivo!”

Ristorante Il Guscio

“Staff was incredible and super knowledgeable! Had incredible gluten-free pasta dish, and amazing steak as well!”

Trattoria Cammillo

“Staff was great and super personable when it came to allergies. They could make most their pastas gluten-free, but are very clear of which ones they can safely and which ones they can’t. We really enjoyed the pasta and vegetables we got!”

Trattoria Sostanza

“They were able to make there famous chicken gluten free!! It just came not breaded but their steak was great a gluten free! Highly recommend!”

Pino’s Sandwiches – Salumeria Verdi

“Have gluten-free bread for their sandwiches! Not the most traditional bread but good when you need a quick sandwich!”

Rosalia Salad Gourmet

“The sweet green of Florence! Great and fresh salad and very clearly marked what things are gluten-free versus what things are not. They always use different tongs. Highly recommend!”

Osteria Santa Spirito

“Gluten-free options are extremely limited. They do have a chicken and vegetable dish that is fully gluten-free and absolutely delicious. However, that’s pretty much the only gluten-free main dish available. That said, the seating is amazing, and the vibes are great!”

Treats

S.forno

“An absolute go to and must when going to Florence! The cutest and homie coffee shop/bakery! Depending on the day they always had different gluten-free options! They made sure that you were comfortable with the protocol that they were using!”

Sbrino – Gelatificio Contadino

“One of my go-to gelato places! As someone with celiac disease, a cone is always a big hit. They have gluten-free cones and will change the scoop if you ask. The staff knows exactly what allergens are in each flavor. I’ve only had the best experiences here!”

Gelateria Artigianale La Sorbettiera | Ponte Vecchio

“An amazing gelato spot with multiple locations throughout the city! Their menu is clearly marked, and they offer a variety of gluten-free cones. The staff told me the shop is fully gluten-free. While this wasn’t clearly marked, I still made sure to ask questions before ordering, and they were very helpful. They also consistently changed the scoop between orders, which I really appreciated from an allergy-safety perspective. I highly recommend this spot if you have gluten allergies or celiac disease. The gelato is delicious, and the staff’s attention to dietary needs made the experience even better!”

La Cité

“One of my favorite coffee shop/bakery in Florence! So cute with a few nice gluten-free options!”

Babae

“Great coffee shop/bakery/restaurant! They only serve one gluten-free thing at the bakery, but amazing brunch across the street which is also babae !”

La Strega Nocciola Gelateria Artigianale – Firenze Ponte Vecchio

“La Strega was a go-to spot! While not all of their flavors are gluten-free, everything is clearly marked and easy to identify. The flavors are unique, creative, and absolutely delicious. The only downside is that they do not offer gluten-free cones. Other than that, the gelato is incredible.”
